Your Turn
Last week's Tori Spelling post turned into a bunch of stories about celebrity jackass behavior you had encountered. I think for this week, I would love to hear about any celebrities you have met, seen, been fondled by, or have otherwise encountered. The stories can be good or bad, happy or sad. I have got to stop reciting song lyrics in the posts. Anyway, get on with it, and for those of you who shared your stories in the Tori post, share them again here.
I was at the world music awards this year and mariah carey looked high off her ass. She would shift into auto mode and look alert on stage, but once back stage, is was a different story. Her publicist was calling all the photographers to say "mariah is leaving. Can you come and take pictures?" So fake.
ReplyDeleteAlicia Keys is TINY and FLAWLESS in person. Didn't have the courage to say hello as she was waiting to perform, but so beautiful.
Caught a glimpse of Beyonce. Tiny in person but gave a hell of a performance. Wish I could say the same about Solange, who was a total bitch as she skipped the press line and gave a half hearted performance in her shiteous outfit.
Estelle is incredibly nice and Sophie Ellis-Bextor is gorgeous and tall.
And Chace Crawford has the most amazing baby blue eyes, although short. I'm about 5'4... so he must have been about 5'7 or 5'8. I blurted out my love for GG and he laughed. Left the after party with his manager, so no gossip there!
Oh and Ringo Starr was really nice. I was running around helping and one time plopped in the seat right next to him without realizing it! He turned and said "They keep you busy here!" and smiled.
It's not much of a story but I found it kind of funny. Christopher Plummer was in Montreal filming a movie with Alec Baldwin. They were filming across the street from where I worked and it was kind of nice to see that.
ReplyDeleteThe next day, I was walking downtown and saw Plummer going out for a jog.
What struck me was how short he was!
I first saw him in A Sound Of Music, and he was incredibly tall in that. He's tall in all his movies. I saw him there and I was flabbergasted. He wears lifts in his movies that's for sure.
I also met Carol Alt once (way too skinny). I met the actor who played Rocky's brother in the Rocky films. I got to light his cigarette.
I met Christopher Reeve once when I was a kid and he was really really nice to me even though I had asked him probably one of the most annoying questions he could get from a kid:
"Are you going to do another Superman movie?"
He said yes and that they were working on a script. He was a very nice guy.
My former co-worker when I worked at the YMCA had a funny incident with Randy Travis. He doesn't follow country music at all and so has no idea who Randy was.
One day Randy worked out at the Y and was leaving by the side door, walking across the gym floor in his cowboy boots. You're only supposed to wear running shoes when on that floor.
So Randy walks by, my co-worker sees him and yells at him - Hey, what are you doing!! Don't you know, etc....
Randy said sorry, he didn't know.
My co-worker looks away for a few moments, turns back and sees Randy is almost at the door. He screamed at him again - said things like "don't you listen" and "what's a matter with you?!", etc.
Randy apologized again and said he was just leaving.
Later that day my co-worker found out who it was and he was completely mortified and wanted to crawl under a rock.
I've met/worked with too many politicians to consider them celebrities. Gore was a cold fish. Bush and Kennedy are both dinks. Gary Hart was a very cool guy to hang with.
ReplyDeleteBut the coolest guy I ever met was Steve McQueen. I was a caddy at Belmont (MA) Country Club. On Mondays, the club was closed but caddies could play the course. A brief scene of The Thomas Crown Affair was filmed there (a member had written the story). So I snuck around the edges of the scene - filmed on the 18th hole. My recollection is that he really wasn't a golfer but he was a lot of fun around the set. And he came over to us and said 'hi'.
I think I floated home.
Early 80's - saw Halle Berry at a house party in Cleveland. She was known then as one of the prettiest girls in town, but not the smartest. Was dating a guy who was BMOC, but also a drug dealer.
ReplyDeleteSaw Vanessa Williams in the late 80's at an art opening. Quiet, but had bad skin then.
Went to a Grace Jones concert in the late 80's. She stared at me in the audience for most of the set - my boyfriend at the time was ready to offer me to her, because he was such a fan.
Ran into Liza Minnelli's ex husband at the Ritz in Philly a few years ago. He leered at my girlfriends & I, we didn't know who he was until he left. Funny looking guy.
Was at a bar after my 25th high school reunion. Lebron James was there. He was looking in my direction & smiling, so I looked over each of my shoulders to see who he was looking at. When I turned back around I realized it was me. I smiled back & thought, 'Dude! I'm older than your Mom!!' He looks a lot younger in person.
Also my dad used to date Dorthy Dandridge on the occasions when she came back to Cleveland to visit family.
LOVE all these encounters, this is a great thread...
ReplyDeleteHere's a few I've had:
Stalked Hugh Jackman backstage at The Tonight Show until I "accidentally" ran into him in the hallway. He smiled and nodded and said Hello. Totally charming and GORGEOUS. He sparkles ;)
Stole a spoon from Goran Visinjic's dessert after a group dinner one night (I still have it). Also very handsome in person and really nice.
Patrick Stewart is a real gentleman and very kind. He is very down-to-earth, as is Brian Cranston.
Encountered Paul Newman quite a bit in my past, he was very, very good at being "invisible" in public, and always wore the same outfit -- but one time I got a nod from him when we passed each other. He was very short in person.
Brian Williams (NBC Nightly News anchor) have talked to him at length on the phone before. He is VERY engaging and nice. I almost passed out when I picked up the receiver when he called and it was him on the line, not his secretary. Love him!
Oh, and on the Duran Duran Adam Ant front -- actually met Adam at an event after-party years ago and he told one of his band members that I looked like Jayme Lee (Curtis - he was dating her at the time).
That's all I can think of right now...
I used to live up the street from Johnny Depp. (Yes I was the envy of many a woman). He is by far the nicest, sweetest, most genuine celeb I've ever met. The worst is Richard Belzer - rude and extremely arrogant, treated me like crap (rolled his eyes and walked away) when I walked up to him and told him I was a fan. Now I hate that pizza-faced fucker.

ReplyDeleteOH! Well most of you won't even really consider him a celebrity but anyway, at an outdoor show a few years ago when the Stray Cats reunited I was back "stage" and the Stray Cats came out and took pictures and Brian Setzer picked me out of the group to take pictures with. Yes I had on a skimpy sundress showing lots of boobage, but I was still so flattered. He's small and contrary to what lots of other who've met him say, very nice to all. Still have the photo somewhere....
ReplyDeleteJen, you live in Cleveland? My significant other is from there (we are heading out there in a couple of weeks) and he would absolutely DIE if he were to meet Lebron. I swear, he played bball against him once in high school and he wont stop talking about it...

ReplyDeleteI thought of some more encounters I forgot to post.
ReplyDelete*The first was in Chicago when I was working at the Merchandise Mart. I worked on the 13th floor and would often come down to the first floor to get a snack or a coffee on my break. Well Q101 radio station was also located on the first floor. I walked right by Chris Isaak and Mancow (popular radio host who is no longer working at Q101) walking in the hallway. Chris Isaak saw me looking when I walked past and smiled and said hello. He was much shorter than I expected.
* Back in 2001 I was in New York City and happenned to see a couple of people. I sat next to Wallace Shawn (Eleanor Waldorf's husband in Gossip Girl) while at a restaurant in Greenwich Village. I also saw Margaret Colin (who plays Eleanor Waldorf on Gossip Girl)come in to a jazz club I was at. She really makes an entrance. She was taller than I expected and very pretty.

ReplyDeleteMorgan Freeman-one of my favorite actors. I met him at a bar in Midtown Manhattan. Love him. Great Actor!
Derek Jeter-Starbucks on the UES. I didn't realize he was sitting next to me until some girl started screaming.
Rebecca G. & her hubby McSteamy lived in my old building on the UWS. This was before he was on Grey's Anatomy. I think she's ugly. She always wore really BIG sunglasses. Ummmm never saw any paps waiting to take her photo.
Yoko Ono-lived down the street from me on the UWS. She lived across from Conan O'brien, but I never saw him. Too bad. Love Conan.
I admit that I slept with 2 A list guys, but I'm not going to mention their names. Yea...I'm a ho, but who isn't
love reading everyone's stories. Celebrity meetings can be so fun and even though i have met lots thru my work in the entertainment industry, i still find their behavior fascinating, shocking and puzzling!
ReplyDeleteDrew Barrymore - met her 15 years ago, through a mutual friend. She seemed fun loving, down to earth then. No big air of celebrity. She paid for lunch too..lol.
John Travolta - very nice guy! No demands, polite, spoke with everyone, constant autograph hounds followed him everywhere, and even though he wanted nothing more to blend in to the woodwork, he was genuinely sweet with all his fans. good tipper.
Sharon Stone - huge demanding diva. She was a nightmare. Everyone hated her.
Robin WIlliams - what a lovely man. Used to come by set on his days off to hang with the crew (the little people - not the director) and would riff with the lamp ops all night long in the rain and cold.
Sean Penn and Robin Wright - he was a huge pain in the ass to the crew, changed his mind every five minutes, and was very distant with everyone. she was sweet, low key and we all felt sorry for her. He checked out every woman he met in front of her.
Michael Madson - Loved himself, huge pisstank, would fuck anythig that walked. Loved being noticed.
Courtney Love - Nightmare. She made our lives a living hell. Drugged up constantly on heroin, burnt her hotel room with cigarettes. Insisted on $300 fake nails and ripped them off EVERY day, hence requiring more $300 fake nails.
Kevin Kline. Down to earth, quiet, warm and friendly to the crew. Not a star bone in his body. Ate lunch with the grips rather than Steve Mrtin.
Giovanni Ribisi - a sweetheart, shy and unassuming. He seemed a little lost. Always wanted to hug him and make him feel safe...lol.
Jean Reno - surprisingly sexy, fabulous, and fun to hang out with. Wanted to shag him terribly...
Spalding Gray - met him in a bar. Spent the night flirting and telling each other stories. He was smart, sexy and edgy. Was very sad when I heard how he died.
Colin Firth - sat next to each other on a long flight, so sexy and smart. He ranted about George Bush and we drank some champagne together. He helped me with my bags and offered me a ride in his limo which i declined much to my chagrin later.
Madeline Stowe - so GORGEOUS!!! Very quiet, thoughtful, no star demands.
Micheal Fox - was a favorite of the crew. He was lovely with everyone, struggling with his illness, but determined to live his life as normally as possible. He spends countless hours of his time working on parkinsons charity causes.
Peter Falk. Fucking asshole.
Tim Daly - sigh... gorgeous!
Kristin Kreuk - very sweet. so tiny. No hollywood attitude. Eating disorder. does things like going backpacking in tibet and nepal on her holidays. Hardly any makeup and one of the prettiest girls i have ever met.
Alison Mack (her costar) what a little bitch! Wont talk to anyone who can't help her career. Teribly stuck up. Thinks she is just all that...
John Schnieder - lives in his airstream on set rather than a hotel room. lol.
Yasmine Bleeth. Cokewhore skank. Is she still alive?
Jeff Goldblum. Likes to screw 15 year old blondes with no tits or hips. Pedophile? Creepy for sure.
John Ritter - wonderful.
Anthony Michael Hall - awesome guy. Very smart guy and an underrated actor too.
David Duchovny - brilliant, huge ego. huge penis. huge slut. He was an asshole long before he was famous.
Gillian Anderson - She does love herself, but she is well behaved with the crews. Aloof. Fancies herself an intellectual but she sure makes stupid decisions in her personal life for such a smart woman.
Alice Cooper - very sweet. looks like death in person. very small and very very skinny. I think hes clean and sober too!
Danny Glover - has huge energy. Quiet and professional. When he is on set, you know you are in the presence of someone with REAL talent.
Laura Dern - acts like she is "one of the everyday people" but in actual fact she has a huge ego and considers herself a "STAR"
Ben Harper (LD's husband) - is the complete opposite of her...go figure.
Gary Busey - this was during his drug days so hopefully he is better now - but he used to shit his pants. on purpose. everyday.
THomas Haden Church. Lives on a ranch in the middle of nowhere. surprisingly sexy, surprisingly down to earth. Flys coach.
Charlie Sheen. Little creep back then. Destroyed the house we rented him on location. $70,000 damage and this was 20 years ago.
Luke Perry. Nice guy now. Good sense of humour, no star attitude. Older and wiser...
Mira Sorvino. Nuts. Pure and simply crazy as a loon.
John Cleese. Super funny in real life as well. Bit demanding at times but not over the top.
Billy Connolly - He is manically funny. You will pee your pants if you are in a room with him for more than 10 minutes.
Bill Murray. See Mira Sorvino.
Carrie Anne Moss. Gorgeous. bit of a hippy. Doesnt mean to be demanding, but she cant help herself.... im sure she would be shocked to know she is! I think its more her people than her...
Isabella Rossalini - ethereal beauty. Ageless. Graceful and naturally elegant. Ego free.
Keanu Reeves - see Bill Murray.
Kate Blanchett - see isabella rosselini.
Brad Pitt. Met him in his "bathing free days" yech. He never met a toothbrush he liked back then. Worked with him again on a certain film where he met his present partner. And yes, they were screwing like bunnies from the first time they met. She decided she wanted him and that was that. Jen had a complete emotional breakdown when she found out, long before the public did.
Those are the ones who stick out in my memory...
i must get a life.
have fun kids!
Re: Keanu Reeves - I never talked to him, did run into him several times at a store nearby where I used to live and he very much kept to himself but my friend in Denver said he did a radio show there a while back and during the commercial break the hosts tried to chat with him and he held up his hand to shut them up and said, "I prefer to be silent" and just sat there until the break was over. He was getting trashed on the air before he even left the building. LOL
ReplyDeleteMs.: just now saw your post...thread is great, isn't it?!
ReplyDeleteok, will email you now. ;)
Got to meet Ann Margret backstage in a private meeting area with her sweet husband after she performed in Atlantic City - couldn't be nicer or more down to earth, extremely feminine and gorgeous, you'd swear she was still 21.
ReplyDeleteI'll second an earlier poster's comment that Stephanie Zimbalist of Remington Steele fame is nice - I was an extra on a TV movie with her and we were in the dressing room together and she was very nice and a regular person.
Was ogled by Rod Stewart once when he was walking through the streets of Atlanta headed for Tower Records to shop. He was in town performing and was wearing a classic rocker's spandex jumpsuit thingie in a bright yellow color. Very bad skin and kind of looked like the Scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz. Probably perfectly nice though.
From a friends who work in the hotel industry : a conceirge at a major hotel used to talk about how Michael Jackson would rent out the penthouse suite, fill it with extremely young Mexican illegal males, and party the night away. Made a mess out of the suite and they always dreaded cleaning up after him - there would be, um, fluids all over the place. Nasty stuff. Also the staff never knew what happened to the poor young Mexican kids after and were told by the hotel management not to report anything. Sad.
Also - friend who works in LA hotels talks about how Tom Cruise has always kept a special apartment somewhere downtown where he invites all his gay male friends and has parties when he needs to be "himself." He was certainly doing this right up until his Katie Holmes marriage - probably still now, too, although my friend hasn't heard any recent gossip about it. The earlier experiences were definitely a fact because my friend knows gay guys who have partied with Tom and are part of that community of secret swingers with celebs.
Have waited on a couple of celebs///
ReplyDeleteWaited on Tom Cruise about 15 yrs ago. Very nice and an excellent tipper.
Ran food to Brad Pitt around the same time. This was before he was too well known. Very nice if a little earthy (translation-probably not a huge bather but not a big deal). I am a bit grungy myself sometimes
Saw Halle Berry when she was married to Dave Justice in the ATL. Hells bells she was gorgeous and sweet at the salon.
Wow, InstantKarma, you're better connected than Enty! :)
ReplyDeleteI have one more story.
ReplyDeleteOne of my friends used to manage a little bitty boutique somewhere around the Gold Coast in Chicago back in the 90s. She met several celebs who lived in that area. Most were nice and relatively normal.
One day, this couple in rather frumpy-looking clothes came into the store and seemed to be looking more at their surroundings than at the merchandise. My friend approached the lady, who was wearing a large scarf and big sunglasses, and asked if she could offer any help.
Her male companion (a man with a scruffy, overgrown beard) quickly stepped in between the two women and gave my friend a curt reply along the lines that they were just looking. The couple then scurried off to a different part of the store.
The woman did speak to the man, but she would never raise her voice above a whisper. After a few minutes had passed, my friend made a second attempt to speak to the couple. Again, the man intervened.
My friend considered calling the police, as the couple looked more like homeless people than like patrons. She then realized the whispering woman was Jenny Jones, the talk show host. Suddenly, their behavior made a lot more sense.
Okay, they were still acting odd, even as supposed celebrities. My friend then took great pleasure in making it a point to follow this pair around, "attempting" to help them, until they decided to shop elsewhere.
She told me this story a few years ago, but it still cracks me up.
instantkarma - please do tell about what stupid decisions Gillian Anderson made and any crazy Mira Sorvino stories if you care to tell. Great stories!!
ReplyDeleteInstantkarma-
ReplyDeleteI love Mike Madsen!Sexy!Loved him in Reservior Dogs. He would have been perfect for Pulp Fiction.
I like Brad & Angie. Sorry Jen...you're too boring.
NYC2008 - Actually I agree he is VERY sexy. He is HUGE, big and muscular, and you get the sense that he would rock your world in the bedroom. lol. And a great actor - but wow...he was more than a bit of a douche. Very arrogant, a huge drunk, loud, obnoxious, and I suspect a druggie as well. If you could get past his gargantaun ego, hed probably be fun on a roadtrip to vegas! lol...
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, Jennifer is kind of boring and quite neurotic too from what Im told by friends. But im no brangelina fan after what i witnessed on M&MS. The way the two of them carried on in front of everyone was stunning and really sleazy. And very revealing about their true natures. I had a close friend who was on friends at the time and heard all about what went down when Jen found out. They had to shut down production for a week - on the final LIVE episode.
Julia - I worked with GA for quite awhile and watched her in action for a long time. The first husband? Nice enough guy but very run of the mill, everyone who knew them was thinking WTF???? We gave it 6 months. TO her credit I think they lasted a year. THey only knew each other a few weeks when she got preggers and married.
And I watched her repeat that same pattern over and over again, getting into instant relationships with guys that she really has nothing in common with. And lots of messiness follows when they realise it. post marriage and babies...
Mooshka - I might know lots of goss, and am finally delurking a little, but could never tell dish it with 1/2 the fun and wit of ENTY...he is my favorite blogger. All my industry friends and I read him religously...
cheers gang!
instantkarma - wow, that really makes me lose respect for Brad - especially because he can just bold-face lie to the press and say "it wasn't like it was some dastardly affair" when it really actually WAS a dastardly, sleazy affair. And Angie I'm sure felt no empathy in the slightest for Jen. And she parades around doing her diplomacy work trying to act like she's such a saint. sickening. I don't see it lasting between Brad and Ang - I never have. They will split in a few years time and it will prob. be because Angie goes back to her whoring ways.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great response ! I've been w/o computer for a week so just catching up.. sometime in the late 80's I went to LA with my parents for some family buiness - they had both grown up in LA and we had a nicely nostalgic lunch at Musso Franks.Just looking around you could pick out so-and-so from that TV show or commercial...all very low key and fun for us. As we were leaving through the main area passing the elevated booths (they were up a step or two if I remember), my mother ( a very hip 75 year old at the time)said to my father ( 80 at the time)" Oh look honey -there's Frank Zappa !" My dad, somewhat deaf was "who?" - to which she somewhat impatiently and a bit louder, replied -"..oh for God's sake Phil, you know - The Mother's of Invention !!" ...I was bringing up the rear and looked up to see a somewhat amused and bemused Zappa looking at my parents like he'd stepped into a time warp that was all wacky... I just smiled at him as we passed and he still had a classic "wha?' look on his face.
