Pressure Works - Chris Brown Says No To Kid's Choice Awards Nomination

It seems that "everyday people" can do some good. With all of the websites giving Chris Brown and Viacom/Nickelodeon crap for his being allowed to possibly win a Kid's Choice Award, Chris Brown's people finally wised up and withdrew his name from consideration. Of course they are still trying to make it look like they did it out of the goodness of their hearts, but it is still a small victory.

"Chris very much appreciates the support of his fans and the honor they have paid him in the way of nominations for Favorite Male Singer and Favorite Song. Unfortunately, the controversy surrounding the incident last month has shifted the focus from the music to whether he should be allowed to be among those nominated," says the statement. "While Chris would like to speak to his fans directly about this and other issues, pending legal proceedings preclude his doing so at this time. Once the matter before him has been resolved, he intends to do so.”

Yeah, I'm sure he intends to speak to someone about it. At what point do you think he would actually sit down and answer questions about it? I would not hold your breath waiting for that to ever happen.

Hallelujah! Although, shame on Nickelodeon for pussying out and letting it happen this way.

Maybe Nickelodeon gave Chris's reps behind-the-scenes pressure to bow out, giving them the opportunity to avoid a public shun.

I could see Nickelodeon wanting to remove him and Clive saying, "You don't want to do that. Let me take care o' this."
"Sweetheart, get me Chrissie on the phone."
Eeeeviiiillll!

I agree 100% AnnMarie! Clive is definitely pulling the strings on how this is getting played out in the press. It is like when the police let the suspect surrender himself, rather than show up at his work and take him out in handcuffs. Only this time, they should have removed him forcibly!

Probably a smarter move for him to withdraw than to have been removed by the show, which I have to imagine Nick wanted very much to do, but were being pressured not to. Just wish he'd done it sooner.

I really hope this starts the down spiral of his career, but somehow I doubt it.

I wouldn't be surprised if Viacom/Nickelodeon "asked" Chris Brown to remove his name from the ballot. They don't want to appear controversial and that's the way they do things there.

They're all scum, no matter how they play it.

So if we all make as much noise about Rihanna dumping Brown's azz, will that work? I signed the petition and sent emails to Nick and Viacom directly.

Just wondering.

Oh, I love how they try to make it sound like anyone who doesn't want him to win a kid's freakin' choice award after he beat up his girlfriend, just isn't into "the Music" enough. I'm sure he feels very put upon that "his personal life" (i.e. his criminally violent dochebaggery) is distracting people from his Art. Ugh ugh ugh.

i'm so glad he's off the ballot, but it doesn't help that nick didn't do it themselves. shows their true colors as a kids network. idc if there aren't a lot of "good rolemodels" out there to promote, DON'T promote the bad rolemodels just cuz that's what's there.

the wording of the statement really gets me "due to the CONTRIVERSY surrounding last months INCIDENT"? beating a woman isn't controversial, it's wrong. leaving the house without pants on all the time (lady gaga) is controversial. there is a difference. i also don't consider beating a woman an incident, he intentionally attacked her out of malice. nothing incidential about it.

Agree with all. His personal life is his own and if he didn't want it to detract from his music, that was for HIM to consider before he beat the crap out of Rihanna, not us. We don't have to consider anything. We hold the purse strings and can end anyone's career simply by not buying what they're selling, regardless of how anything portrayed in the press... which neutralizes Clive.
If he wants to speak about it later, sure, he can. And we can respond.

this was the right thing to do. dunno if it came from chris' peeps, or at nudging from the show. either way, he's off the ballot.

maybe this will help him and his camp realize the immense gravity of the situation.

This syntax enrages me. I am SO fucking tired of this douche being portrayed as a victim.

I'm tired of this hush hush stop making such a fuss about this "incident" crap! I do not want nickelodeon or anyone else teaching our young women that you should not talk about it and it's something to feel guilty about. They are sending the wrong message now is the time for our youth to get lessons on strength and the right thing to do and to stand up for yourself b/c no one else will for you. Men keep on doing this b/c there is no repercussions b/c victims (not blaming them) just want to get away and forget about it instead of sending the jerks to prison and making them pay for their actions. Then they just find another person to victimize.

Could this asshole (although I am reluctant to call him that bec. an asshole has a purpose) is STILL making it seem like WE are keeping his twerp ass from being awarded. He wants to make a statement but can't but intends to do so. Can't his PR people just withdraw and shut up already. The more they talk the more I feel like giving them the beatdown that CB gave RiRi. His whole attitude, the beatdown, and his actions (or those of his people)in the press afterward pisses me off no end.

all i can say is i'm glad this happened in california.
i don't care WHO is behind this, the DA knows that abused women "change their minds", and i hope they prosecute to the full extent.

Anyone else think he did it for "good press"?? Like him bowing out is the good guy thing to do. If that's the angle his PR is taking, I'm not buyin' what they're sellin'

No, I believe KellyLynn et al are right - Viacom was getting pissed with all the flack. I did read that Nickelodeon was supposedly ready to film a reality show with him as the star, which would explain why they hesitated so long. Bet that won't air, because he'll be in jail. Of course his PR team spun it to his advantage. That's what they're paid for.

So despite the way it came out ... it feels pretty good to have your voice heard, eh? Right on, everybody!
