Today's Blind Items

This B+ only movie actor with A name recognition has been married a very long time. He rarely cheats. When he does cheat, his wife invariably discovers it, but never does anything about it. Well, that is until on the set of his last movie he got involved with a D list actress who has moved up into the world of C list and was heading to B with a bunch of great new roles she got via the casting couch. Well, after she and our B list actor had their fun, she decided that maybe she should try and hitch herself to his star. Our B list actor's wife got wind of this idea and came to blows with the up and coming actress. No damage was done physically, but our actor's wife called everyone she knew in town and our up and coming actress has not even had a whiff of an offer since.

  1. Does Megan Fox have anything to do with this equation?

  2. Sounds like the wife has some pull in Hollywood.

    Ben and Jen?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Im tempted to say Denzel since he was been married for 25+ years and he is always rumored to cheat on his wife. Though B+ may be underrating him.

Affleck has not been married for a long time

    ReplyDelete
  4. I'd say Tom Hanks but he would be A list for an actor. He's done tv too so I guess he is out.

    Warren Beatty?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Isn't Warren a notorious womanizer? Although, I think I did read that since marrying AB, he had toned it down some. Good guess, Blah.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I like the Denzel Washington guess. There have been sporadic rumors about him cheating, but not constantly. But has he been in any movies fairly recently with a younger sounding actress that just finished a bunch of great roles?

    ReplyDelete
  7. Clive Owen? The new film being "Sin City 2" The up and comer being the C-listy/B-listy, but now frozen in her racks former model Jamie King?

Maybe his wife has powerful friends in the Mommy-enclave of non-famous H-wood wives who all either have had this happen or fear this happening, so they got together to influence their big-shot husbands and freeze out the interloper? Or maybe the "casting couch" she ended up on belonged to one of the actor's wife's friends' big-shot husband? (Both wives suffered the same fate at the hands of the same C lister/B lister?)

    ReplyDelete
  8. I know the rankings are arbitrary, but how could anyone not call Denzel A-list?

    ReplyDelete
  9. denzel is solid a-list. and he cheats all the time.

    ReplyDelete
  10. RagDoll, are they really finally doing Sin City 2? I'd about given up hope of it ever happening.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Beatty is out of it. He hasn't acted since 2001. Looking at Kevin Bacon's imdb but I can't really see any actresses that are even remotely known at all. Maybe someone else can see one.

    ReplyDelete

wasn't Denzel on some hospital show in the 80's... the one with Ed Begley Jr.

and wouldn't he be A list considering he has 2 Oscars???

    ReplyDelete
  13. just throwing their names out there... sjp and matthew broderick?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Ooh, looked it up, and they expect to start filming in April 2009. Woo! Although, they haven't cast anyone yet. Boo!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Denzel is A-list, and he did "St. Elsewhere" (TV) back in the day. That should rule him out.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Lulu, yep, St. Elsewhere. I was so addicted to that show. I still can never see Denzel as a truly good guy because his character made such a strong impression on me.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Elizabeth Banks for the actress? She has been in a lot of movies recently, but doesn't have much coming up -- could the actor be someone from W.?

    ReplyDelete
  18. I was thinking Clive Owen.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Elizabeth Banks is married, which I think Enty would have mentioned. Plus she's kind of always hoovered right around C; I don't think she was ever really D (this is the rabid Wet Hot American Summer fan in me talking).

    ReplyDelete
  20. ISN'T MEL GIBSON KIND OF OVER...?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Why not Malkovich??
He has been married since 1989.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Could be with Evangeline Lilly?

    ReplyDelete
  23. She has nothing in pre-or post production now except Lost - which I think we all know is on the way out anyhow.

    ReplyDelete
  24. ooooooooh! i like RagDoll's rationale...

    ReplyDelete
  25. Ragdoll, Clive lives in London with his family, not in LA so I don't think his wife would have any pull.

    ReplyDelete
  26. What about Josh Brolin/Alison Pill?

    ReplyDelete
  27. will smith? Is "hitch herself to his star" a clue? it just seemed a little out of place. he and jada have been married awhile, but not sure if I would constitute that as "a very long time"..

    ReplyDelete
  28. Kelsey, you don't count 6 seasons of Fresh Prince of Bell Air as doing TV?

    ReplyDelete
  29. What about Pierce Bronson?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Remember, guys, that Enty designates Oscar winners as A-list.

That said, in no universe is Denzel anything but A-list. Ditto Warren Beatty, though those are each awesome guesses. They each have major awards, a shitton of fans, and tons of critical praise. It ain't either of them.

Tom Hanks is, like, A+++++. I DO maintain that he's the dude who got busted in his vacation home, though. Are you ever gonna reveal that one, Enty? :-)

I think the Will Smith guess is awesome -- he DEFINITELY has A-list recognition, but I really don't think he's gonna win any awards (that aren't of the Nickelodeon or People's Choice variety). Thus: the B+ designation.

Brolin's out because he and Diane Lane really haven't been married THAT long. Will and Jada have been married for eons, seemingly. I say it's them.

No idea for the up-and-coming actress, though.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I thought Will & Jada were gay/bi/open marriage/whatever.

    Tom Hanks? Really??

I heard this story not too long ago but can't for the life of me remember who the players were....

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'll go with Malkovich -married 20 years, not in movies seen by the masses, but everyone has heard the name.
with Evangeline Lily or Megan Fox (although their film is in production now)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Anonymous4:05 PM

Gotta love it. Hollywood marriages are so messed up that this guy's cheating requires "rarely" as a descriptor.
And these women they cheat with - what, do they sit around with someone and actually verbalize their dastardly plans like in a bad movie?
That said, I wish I had a guess to contribute!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Will Smith was on TV, so he is disqualified. I was going to guess Ed Burns or Michael Douglas, but they both have been on TV as well, so it's not them. Kevin Bacon is a pretty good guess, but I would have no clue as to who the actress might be. This one is intriguing.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Mooshki -
I was just thinking Denzel because I haven't seen him in much lately. I know about the Oscar rule, I just thought maybe there could be a corresponding time since anything good rule. Lol. Probably doesn't make any sense.

I love John Malkovich, that's a good guess too.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I think Will Smith is A list. He's considered the most bankable actor in Hollywood. Most of his movies make $100mil+, he's been nominated twice for an Academy Award and he has a franchise with Men In Black. According to Enty, box office numbers and the ability to open a movie with only your name makes you A-list more so than just winning an Academy Award.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Actually, the list system doesn't only encompass awards winner. It's mostly about bankabilty. Will Smith is A+ all the way. Even if he has never won any serious award, any producer can sell a project just because Smith is attached to it. It will automatically draw a large audience in the US, rights will be bought in foreign countries, actually it's hard to lose money when the star is Will Smith.

There are much fewer A-list actresses. Julia Roberts, certainly. Reese Witherspoon is also A-list. But other actresses also need a (generally) male co-star with box office power. Angelina Jolie may be famous (A-list in name recognition) but she's got a string of flops as a lead actress (A Mighty Heart, for instance). You can't build a film just around Angelina's name just as you can around Will's.

B-list means you've got a buzz around you and that, if you're in the cast of a movie, it's an incentive for viewers who were hesitating. Paul Rudd is typically B-list. He can be a lead actor (check "Role Models") especially in indie movies but his box-office value mostly applies to supporting roles. You see his name on the bill, you think it's another Apatow production and you go see it.

D-list moved up to C-list and heading to B-list? I would have said Malin Akerman but no other clue fits (she's married and has no coming co-starring role with a male A-lister)

    ReplyDelete
  38. And don't forget, will smith has been nominated twice.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Alright: granted, Will IS A-list in that he IS hugely bankable. I suppose he's as indisputably A-list as Cameron Diaz.

So, I agree with you guys that it isn't Will, but Malin Akerman IS a great guess for the actress, though!

I REFUSE to even consider Kevin and Kyra! I'll slit my wrists! Same goes for Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon.

    ReplyDelete
  40. oooh. Liam is doing a movie with Amanda Seyfried right now. She's had lot's of great roles recently.

    ReplyDelete
  41. OT but Related To Blinds:

Okay guys so since the majority of time we're trying to figure out if someone is A,B,C,D list, what does everyone think about me starting a blog for us CDANers dedicated to what list people are on?

I could have a master list and then every day list a group of actors, my argument for what list they should be on and then you guys can give your input. Then I can continually update the lists. If you guys think it might be a good idea then I'll do it. If you don't, then I won't.

So good idea or bad idea?

    ReplyDelete
  42. I don't really have any great guesses, but I say GOOD FOR THE WIFE.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Ernestine, I agree about Kevin and Kyra. Tim robbins and Susan Sarandon aren't married.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Ernestine, I agree about Kevin and Kyra. Tim robbins and Susan Sarandon aren't married.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Sunnyside, I know -- but they may as well be married. To me, they're more *married* than Garner/Affleck, for instance. They just seem REALLY genuinely loyal and devoted to each other -- ditto Kevin and Kyra.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Another guess for the actress would be somebody like Leslie Bibb. Out of a sudden she gets noticeable parts in major productions such as Talladega Nights or Iron Man, covers for Maxim and magazines like that. Yeah, I know nothing other fits but I think we should look at such actresses or models turned actresses, more famous for their looks than for their acting abilities.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Don't we think Enty would have mentioned if the wife was an actress? Sounds like someone either involved in the business side of things or just with a nice rolodex due to her hubby's clout.

    ReplyDelete
  48. What about Liam Neeson with Maggie Grace in Taken? Does anyone know if Maggie Grace is signing up for anything?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Jasmine- I looked her up. She doesn't seem to have much going on. About 1 movie per year since LOST.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Okay, Liam Neeson is a great guess. He's married to Natasha Richardson, who is the daughter of Tony Richardson and Vanessa Redgrave. She obviously has ALOT of contacts in Hollywood and on the London scene. Also, according to her IMDb page, she's very good friends with Ralph Fiennes, Griffin Dunne, Laura Linney and MERYL STREEP. I'm thinking that if this is Liam, then Natasha could easily contact her friends and associates and put the brakes to someone's career.

And I don't think Meryl would be too happy if this was Amanda, as she's now considered one of "Meryl's Girls" which helps open alot of doors in LaLaLand.

And Dominic Cooper broke up with his girlfriend after filming Mamma Mia because he and AS hooked up on set.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Isn't Leslie Bibb good friends with Leslie Mann (Judd Apatow's wife)? I think I remember reading something like 3 or 4 years ago that people used to get them so confused and then they met and hit it off and now they laugh about it.

Not to say that it still couldn't be her.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Trivia: Christopher Walken and his wife have been married for 40 years... She's also a big casting director (The Sopranos, Entourage and lots of movies).

    ReplyDelete
  53. Christopher Walken has hosted SNL several times, so i don;t know if that counts as movies only, since it isn't a recurring role, but a special visit. Pierce Brosnan was a costar on Remington Steele, so he would be out.

    ReplyDelete
  54. After a quick imdb search to further look into the Liam Neeson guess, perhaps the actress can be Romola Garai (played Brioni Tallis in Atonement) and they were in The Other Man together. Or am I just reaching here???

    ReplyDelete
  55. Cool. I'm down with Liam, but for the love of Xenu, I PRAY Amanda Seyfried has better morals that that! I. LOVE. HER. I love anything associated with Big Love -- even Chloe Sevheinous has kinda grown on me.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I vote Liam and Amanda. Which sucks because I like both of them. But everything fits the description....

    ReplyDelete
  57. Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Princess- I think it's a great idea.

Just when I think I have A/B/C/D down, Ent throws a curve ball. He called some chick from The Office a B and I had never heard of her. I like to think I know but apparently I don't.

I would be happy to help w/ anything u need.

  59. This comment has been removed by the author.

  60. For some reason I'm thinking about Christian Bale and Bryce Dallas Howard for this one. I would hate for this to be Bale because he always seems like a dedicated husband but the comment " no damage was done physically" sounds like a hint since he went on a verbal tirade on the set of Terminator but was not physical. Bale's wife Sibi used to work in the film industry before she met Bale.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Amanda's star is shining brighter than Liam's right now. She'll be busy for a while. Might be this Romola girl though.
Great idea, Princess. Maybe Enty could place a link on the page to the list?

    ReplyDelete
  62. Bryce D Howard doesn't need any help and I seriously doubt she's ever seen a casting couch.

    ReplyDelete
  63. not sure who it is but it can't be Kevin Bacon, he used to be on Guiding Light way back when.

    ReplyDelete
  64. MizCaramel,

I saw that KB had been on GL back in the day, but wasn't it only for a short period? I know imdb can be off, but it says he was on for 6 episodes. Trust me, I do NOT want this to be Kevin Bacon because I really like him and KS. Plus, he got major points for visiting the military hospital and not seeking press. Also, he got f^cked over in the Madoff deal. So, I definitely don't want this to be him.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Okay, this is going to be a two parter. According to Wiki, these are longest lasting Hollywood marriages and of course several of these can be ruled out rather quickly.

  68. Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas
    with Selma Blair?

    ReplyDelete
  69. princess...gr8 idea!! will u be posting the list here?

    ReplyDelete
  70. maybe its because i'm watching W. but i immediately thought Diane Lane.

but whats considered a "long" time.

and, holy shit, she was Cherry Valance?!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Kevin Kline and Phoebe Cates sound like a good guess. I don't know who the other actress would be.

    ReplyDelete
  72. yeah, nix on the will smith idea. I glossed over that line of "only movie".

I am definitely on the liam train now, though.

    ReplyDelete
  73. @Ehjah

I'm going to try to sweet talk Enty into post a link. I may have to contact Jax for re-enforcement.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Angela & Cynthia,
Christopher Walken definitely fits. Georgianne would definitely know everyone to call in town to stall someone's career. Wow, I've been on the Neeson train for this but I think I can be swayed just based on the wife's career. However, I really don't want this to be Walken. Also, I don't think hosting or cameoing on SNL would detract from movies only. If that were the case, then everyone who's ever appear on The Tonight Show wouldn't count as movies only.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Denzel did Tv, so did Will Smith, Tom Hanks, Pierce Brosnan. Tim Robbins and Kurt Russell aren't married. That leaves Banderas (B list), Walken (def A-List), Kline (B List), Malkovich (A or B List), Bacon (A or B List), Travolta (A List), Beatty (A List) and anybody else you want to add.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Princess, Harry Morgan and Francis X Bushman are not married to each other; Francis is the GRANDFATHER of Harry's wife, Barbara. Francis himself has been dead about 40 years.

Thanks for the list, though. It makes things easier!

    ReplyDelete
  77. @kanonymous
LOL, I didn't even notice that. I just copy and pasted from Wikipedia.
To top it off, it didn't even list Christopher Walken and his wife Georgianne. I know Wiki is a work in progress and relies on everyone to help fill in the gaps, but I would have thought that CW & GW would have been on there before Patrick Dempsey and Jillian Stink-Eye, er, I mean, Fink.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Princess:

I'm all for your idea! Go git 'em!

Walken won an Oscar for The Deer Hunter, which makes him A list in Enty's categorization scheme. Therefore, he's out.

I like the Kevin Kline idea, with the actress being Isla Fisher (and the movie "Definitely, Maybe"). Phoebe is very well connected (and well-liked, I believe) in H-wood thanks to her dad Gil, and could very well shut someone down with a few calls.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I think this SCREAMS Mel Gibson!

And Ernestine, I agree with you that I LOVE anything to do with Big Love. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  80. First time poster - love the site Enty.

QUESTION: Would the Sean Penn / Robin Wright Penn / Lindsey Lohan triangle be a little bit too facile a guess for this one? Let's see... I'm thinking it certainly would explain a lot of things...

Let's say that Penn is the the B+ movie only actor with A name recognition - Consider: Maybe the putative "B+" grade in this case is not 'star power' but '$$$ already earned' rating. A red herring decoded? Penn fits as a B+ in earning - doing largish indy and arty major release films for the bulk of his portfolio - the biggest of which pull in B+ $$$ - and he certainly has an A name recog. I mean really, Milk is no Dark Knight or Hancock, no matter how much we'd like it to be.

Lindsey certainly fits as the D list party here - both from $$$ earning as well as star power. And it seems to gel (didn't google this, but it makes my spider sense tingle) that Linds had a bunch of stunt casting bits (a la Britney in HIMYM) and indy and larger release film roles that have strangely 'evaporated' over the last few months. I remember reading about her stalking Penn rather publicly pre- and at Oscar parties AND official events - perhaps the more public appearances are what triggered Robin Wright Penn to get all 'it's go time' on Linds' career. Again - looking it at this ways explains a lot.

If this *is* the triangle described here - then I've got some new love for RWP.

Comments? Conjecture? What do you guys think?

    ReplyDelete
  81. I think this is definitely Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith... with the girl being Jaime King on the set of "Sin City 2".

    ReplyDelete
  82. Yo, firestorm: if anybody's A-list, it's Sean Penn. He basically walks in the Kodak Theatre, outstretches his arms, and Oscar statues immediately come flying towards his scrawny-ass body. Not to mention his notoriety; he's been pretty much the Hollywood Granddaddy of Womanizing Bad Boys. My point is, he's got mega name recognition.

He's grody enough to bang Lindsay, however. That's another triangle, and I believe it. For whatever reason, Robin, gorgeous and talented as she is, stays beside his ass. It's sad.

Also, Amanda's currently enamored by her Mamma Mia costar. I don't know his name and am too lazy to look it up (I haven't seen the movie yet, but I've seen candids of the two of them together. They look smitten). I guess my point is that she doesn't SEEM like the kind of person who enjoys multiple sex partners, but perhaps that's just good acting.

I think Liam "Tinkle Pants" Neeson is a perfect guess for the actor dude, though.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Goldfish, I like the guess, but do you think Melanie would do nothing if she found out he was cheating? I would've thought she'd throw a hissy fit.

Also, Sin City 2 has not started filming yet, so it'd have to be a different actress.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Mooshki I was wondering that too... what I was wondering is whether Melanie Griffith really had enough pull in Hollywood to make calls and stop someone's career. But when I think of them I could really see him cheating -- and her going along with it to keep the marriage going. She seems so insecure about getting older that I could see her thinking "well... maybe he'll be with the occasional younger woman".

    ReplyDelete
  85. firestorm, I like your thinking & they're not on the list which makes me think we're missing people, but I would venture to say penn is definitely A-list both in name and in actuality...

as for the beatty guess, I was intrigued by that too then realized per imdb he hasn't been in anything since 2001 (& I had no idea!).

    ReplyDelete
  86. Anonymous10:35 AM

Liam has done considerable TV. Ruling out guest appearances and narration work, he has done several miniseries and made for TV movie of the week projects.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Bale and Bloodgood?

  88. Princess - love the idea. I'm just worried that our rankings will be different from Enty's. Regardless, do it anyway. I think you should also mention recognition of each star, too.

Firestorm - Welcome! Lindsay BLOhan doesn't have any job offers, because she's a druggie and parties too hard.

Liam's got my vote. I just don't know who the D-list actress is.

  89. Antonio Bandares or Liam Neeson and Romola Garai?

  90. @Karmen, @Snautrag, @kelsey, @Ernestine - Ahhhh - I guess I was looking for the red herring - Enty throwing us off by calling Penn a B+... The Linds stalking him @ pre-award events - not the kind of attention you want - unless, y'know, skanks are yer thing.

I live in Marin - you can't walk down the street without someone stopping to tell you 'I saw Sean Penn doing this skanky girl at that restaurant' stories... my son used to work at a hamburger joint where SP stopped all the time! He served Penn numerous times at the drive thru before someone told him who it was! He said - bless him - "That greasy dude was Sean Penn? Crazy!"

    That's my boy!

  91. How about Liam Neeson and Christina Ricci?

  92. If I recall Enty's explanation, being an Oscar winning actor does not make you A-list for life. It just means that you're never less than B-list.

So the Walken guess could still work.

  93. Nooo, it can't be Romola Garai! On top of the fact I love her, I think she's had enough success on her own that she doesn't need to sleep her way up. She's had a good amount of plump roles in respectable movies (okay, ignore Dirty Dancing Havana Nights). If you've already been a major character in a Keira Knightley Oscar-nominated film, why would you need the help? Go look at her imdb page, it's very impressive.

When I think trashy d-list clawing her way up to C and higher, I think a no-talent self promoting slutbag like Megan Fox.

  94. I'm late to the game but what about Robert Downey Jr.? I know everyone is in the RDJ love train (myself included) but his wife is a successful movie producer and she has Hollywood pull. Maybe the lady is from the new Sherlock Holmes or The Soloist movie?

  95. Kiradris you're right, it's probably not Romola Garai.

  96. Kline just did a movie with former D-lister Jennifer Beals...

  97. @Harriet Hellfire: I'm not saying that the wife shouldn't get a piece of the mistress as revenge but when you say "Good for the wife" what about the husband's role in all of it. I mean the D-lister wouldn't have had the chance to plot her way up if he hadn't gotten involved with her to begin with.

And I'm all over the Neeson/Seyfried guess. But he's married to an actress who's probably b-list herself, would ENT have mentioned that?

  98. This ABSOLUTELY has to be Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick. Has to be 100%. Matthew hasn't done shit in a few years, but is a staple Hollywood name. The fucking guy is Ferris Bueller, and he cheats like it's going out of style. The girl is probably Brittany Snow, or Maura Tierny.

    This has to be it.

  99. Honestly, Matthew Broderick does sound like a good fit, except actors seem more like his thing.

  100. I think RDJ's wife produced Sherlock, so that would be beyond F'ed up.
