Here Come The Duggar's

When I first saw the Duggar family was expecting another baby, I said to myself doesn't that woman ever get tired of having kids. But, it turns out it wasn't them it was their oldest kid. Joshua Duggar got married back in October and he and his wife are expecting a kid in October. That means it was three whole months before she got pregnant. I'm sure he was yelling at her every night because she had not get pregnant yet and wondering how come she wasn't like his mom.

When Joshua's wife Anna took the pregnancy test she gave it to Joshua without looking at it which is the weirdest thing ever. It's like it is her job and he is the supervisor. That night at dinner he broke the news to Anna and his parents all at once.

Oh, and lest you think they are not going to have a million kids, when asked if they were going to keep the J tradition when naming their kid, Joshua said, "Discussions are underway. We are planning on a name theme, but we are not sure what it will be." When you start talking about naming themes you know there are going to be a bunch of kids. And discussion shmicussion, I think the only person he is discussing it with is himself.

He's just doing his husbandly duty. The best way to keep a woman happy is to keep her barefoot and pregnant, and not burden her with any unnecessary decisions.

Ok this is a couple that didn't even have their first kiss until the wedding ceremony.
They probably have a very 18th century marriage and he makes all the decisions.

Isn't this the same Duggar couple who waited until their wedding to kiss? Way to get moving.

Name themes are stupid. Give your kid a name you like, not the only name left that starts with J.

By the way, Anna said she had Josh look at the test because she was too scared to see what the results were, not because he's her "supervisor." But he definitely should have told Anna first, not told her and his parents at the same time!

Yeah, she was scared alright! Can you imagine what lies ahead for her? This is only the first of many, many pregnancies. Of course, burying your head under the sand doesn't change the outcome.

I inexplicably love the Duggars. Inexplicable because I am a middle-aged single childfree atheist left-winger. And because Jim Bob and I exchanged a couple of emails recently on whether or not "science is supporting more and more the Biblical account of the Earth's creation 6000 years ago."

But nonetheless, I love them. Even tho they are scary and even tho there is something wrong with Michelle's mouth because ALL she ever does is smile. And even though heaven help any gay kids that might be born to them.

There was a comedian not too long ago--CANNOT remember who it was--that said in a thousand years all our DNA will be traced to the Duggar's or Octomom. LOL.

Why is this news worthy of the attention it is getting? Goodlord I hate these people.

Well, I hope she 'wears' pregnancy well, so to speak. Can you imagine being dog sick for the whole nine months, and realize that that's what you have to look forward to every year for the rest of your childbearing days.

If I were her, I'd be stocking up on 'salt peter', and sprinkle it liberally on his meals from now on.

Wow...why all the animosity? This family has always been self supporting (no public handouts) and seems to be thriving. I have watched the show a few times and see a fun, loving, happy and close knit family. I see 2 parents who really love their kids and think Josh and Amy seem to be a wonderful young couple. It is no secret that they both wanted a big family. No one is making them do it. Amy freely entered into the marriage and obviously is very much in love with Josh.

I think this family gets people mad because they seem to be so perfect, which does make me jealous. How does this woman raise all these kids and she is always smiling??? A strong faith is God probably goes a long way for this family.

Instead of hating on them, just ignore them and focus on yourself and your own family. The reason they are news is that their television show is a huge hit and millions of people watch it.

Congrats to Josh and Amy. I pray they have a healthy baby.

Ice Angel, as I said above, I agree with you. Seriously, I think this family is great. They're having tons of kids, but they're devoting themselves to them totally. Too bad more parents are so involved.

Ice Angel I would agree 100% with you if Michelle could go 1 hour without handing a baby or toddler off to a 'buddy' in the family.

you raise your kids, you don't raise your kids to raise your other kids. i think it's damn sad to see the vacant looks on these poor young girls who seem to lack a personality or identity of their own.

Michelle needs therapy to get over her miscarriage and stop pumping them out her clown car.

Took them long enough! :p

"M" is a good letter, lots of names!

wow, these Quiverfull peeps are a funky bunch!

Jax is correct. Michelle spends something like the first 6 months with the new baby and then passes it off to the assigned buddy. The kids have to sign up on a sheet, on their parents door, if they want to schedule time to talk to them, privately.

What kind of work does the Dad do? I need a job that pays like that!!!

Sinjin said...

brendalove,

they own commercial real estate which they lease out. I'm in that field, and it is lucrative to have multiple renters paying you anywhere from $1,000 to $6,000 and up depending on the square footage they've leased! Prior to that they both held jobs in various fields before they decided 4 years into their marriage to start having kids.

While I didnt' before thier show aired, I actually have come to like the Duggars because they actually monitor their kids time on websites and tv time, and actually play with them.

On the other hand, I despise the Gosslins (Jon & Kat +8) for the exact opposite reasons. Their house is full of screaming tyrants and hitters (I'm looking at you Kate), plus they'll whore those childen out for free vacations and material things (like their new mansion).

Exactly. As much as I like the family I really have wonder if she is playing with a full deck of cards mentally.

But I am curious to see of any of those oldest Duggar daughters will pump out a kid every year after marriage.

Seriously... they have spent their entire childhood raising kids... getting married may come as a vacation to them to get away from raising kids.

I would be thrilled to see a couple of those older girls moving out and trying college just to see how it changes their views on daily life.

another one who actually likes them despite the fact that I would never want their lifestyle.

i just dont get the animosity. now, jon and kate, yeah, dont love them and their parenting, or basically her.

I agree with Ice Angel. They seem like a nice set of people; they just live differently than the vast majority of us - but hell, they may be on to something, you know?

I think the "handing babies over" thing is way overstated. I'm sure the older kids watch the younger kids, as happens in ANY large family. I'm the youngest of two and I'd have loved a younger sibling - maybe if I'd had one, I'd have more of a clue about children in general. The Duggar kids' experiences are not all bad, not all good - and the same can be said for anyone's childhood.

call me naive, but do you still pee on those pregnancy tests? i see people handing those things all over the place, and all i can think is "hello? she just PEED ON THAT!"
i know, urine is sterile and all that, but still.

LOL, Sporky and Bunny!

Holy crap! What a fucked up family dynamic. However, aren't the Duggar's affiliated with some ass backward religion or something? I see them as some sort of "promise keeper" type freaks where the man is the boss and the wife is his little slave.

Think they might belong to this sect - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quiverfull ?? Not sure ... but sure seems like they could.

Wow, such an open-minded group here! So the Duggars want to have a big family and not live off the government? Who are they really hurting? The kids? It isn't like the kids are neglected or abused.

Miss X, ever hear of the overpopulation problem? :) Mainly, my objection is that I don't like the idea of anyone looking up to a woman who has become a brood mare. It's just my inner feminazi coming out. I know it's her choice to decide what to do with her life, I just think she's a bad example to others. With abstinence and "family values" getting so much press, I really get scared that women are going to lose some of the rights that many have fought so hard for.

The Duggars are very decent people compared to some other twats on tv & even in my own neighbourhood.I do think it is HIGHLY irresponsible though, despite being 'self sufficient', to have so many children. Quantify all the children these children will have, and so on & so on, and no wonder we have a scary 'footprint' problem on our environment. This Duggar family alone will put out 90 cars to the pasture, 450 cars if these original 18 kids have 5 kids. And that's just vehicle consumption! What about appliances, food, clothes, gas, energy? The whole thing is mind boggling. As kind & virtuous as these people may be, it all seems narcissitic to me.

how come you guys are not reacting more strongly to the whole "him telling the family and her if she is pregnant or not" - that is one of the craziest things I have ever heard. Can you imagine peeing on a stick, handing it to your hubby, than make some din-din, get the parents in law over and hear the results?

Christina said...

bionic bunny!: Pregnancy tests come with little plastic caps for the peed-on end, so it's not like you are handling a dripping stick.

And I totally agree with the view that the Duggars, though eccentric and pursuing a life that would not be my ideal, are far less offensive than the Gosselins. Kate is a control freak in such stupid ways with her kids. Like freaking out over messiness when they are doing craft projects in the garage. Plus she's a henpecking shrew to her sack-less husband. When I see her slap him in the face or get all pissy when he says something "wrong" I know why he looks so much older than he is.

Finally, mygeorgie, I think you are looking at the Duggars proliferation incorrectly. It would be one thing if all those kids were useless mooches, using up resources without any contribution to society, but that isn't the case. None of those kids, AFAIK, have any problems that would preclude them from leading productive lives. One might end up writing the Great American Novel, another might invent some way for cars to run on cow farts. You don't know. Plus they live in freaking Arkansas, which is not exactly suffering from a population density problem.

my socialogy teach told me that if a family of just 4 ate something like 10-20% less meat per month it is the equilvalent of 10-20 thousand less gas miles in the ozone layer. My problem- as many of you sane people have said- is that while we have rights to do as we please it is only decent and humane to have consideration for the future of our planet and creatures that we curtail just thoughtless babymaking. And Arkansas or not the effects of this massive fucking family is felt everywhere. You can see America's pollution from space! Therre is a floating pile of garbage you can see from space as well as the pollutant we emit. It is time to take responsiblility as we know so much now of what damage we can cause and how to rectify it.
