Daniel Craig Needs Bodyguards?

Oh Daniel Craig I hope fame isn't going to your head too much. The New York Daily News is reporting today that Daniel asked the producers of the new Broadway show he is starring in with Hugh Jackman for bodyguards. Apparently he doesn't want fans approaching him while he is on the streets of New York. So far that hasn't been a problem because he is sporting a huge handlebar mustache and so no one had recognized him. Now that he has bodyguards though people are noticing him. Daniel, Daniel, Daniel. Bodyguards? Come on. You are James Bond. You don't need bodyguards. I understand if you fear for your safety, but if the sole purpose is to make sure you don't get approached by fans that is the wrong attitude to take.

"Everybody thinks it's funny because the truth is, Daniel rarely gets approached by the public in the street and at restaurants - especially now that he has the huge handlebar mustache for this role."

For his part, Hugh Jackman has not requested any bodyguards at all and doesn't mind interacting with fans.

  2. Maybe he has some crazy stalker we don't know about. If he needs bodyguards at the theater, I can understand asking the producers to pay for it. It's work related. But if he needs bodyguards while walking down the street, shouldn't that be his own financial responsibility?

  3. Oh shoot. Maybe he heard that I live in the states. Daniel - I don't have the cash to make it to New York. You can fire your bodyguards now.

Have you seen his body? It is one that requires guarding. He's just misunderstood.

This wasn't the Daniel Craig post I was hoping for. :-(

  4. Hey jw12...

I do not take offense at that remark, strangely enough.

  5. Ms Cool, I will fight you for him. I always smile when you request pics of him.

  7. This guy plays James Bond and he needs bodyguards for a play he's in where he's sporting a handlebar mustache? What a tool.

Hugh Jackman, on the other hand, is awesome for wanting to interact with his fans. Daniel Craig needs to get over himself. People won't want to meet him or get his autograph forever. Embrace it while you can, bucko.

  9. Maybe he's afraid he will be force fed sushi and made to quit the show! :)

I'm still team Hugh! Can I guard Hugh's body? I promise to be VERY good to it! Promise!

  10. hmm...paisley, you may be on to something...stalkers can truly be a scary thing to experience. :( but its...it should be his own out-of-pocket $.

  11. @Ms Cool & jw12 - I can be in NY in an hour AND have tickets for the show. Coincidently, the bodyguards were hired just after I ordered my tickets.....

  12. Aw man, Mikey - that was just plain cruel pointing that out.

  13. Another reason why Hugh Jackman is the one true SUPER star to emerge in the last decade (not counting tweener favorites). Time will prove my right.

  14. Craig has had an bad experience of stalking with a psychopathic fan: he has learned “the lesson”
Hugh Jackman could strangle someone with a hand. Considering his muscles and the notable tallnes, bodyguards don’t serve him...fortunately he's a kind man

  15. Ms Cool - sorry! If you can make it here I have 2 tickets and I have not offered the other one out yet. I'm not taking my DH. That would be a waste of a ticket. I feel it should be used by someone who can appreciate all that is good on one stage.

  16. Daniel thinks he is Robert P. I never really thought he was a real James Bond. Daniel walks around London without a help so wtf is he asking for Bodyguards. I am really hating some of these 35-45yr old actors coming from London and getting on their high horse. Ralph Fiennes is a Alister and has done tonnes of movies and has never asked for Bodyguards.

  17. You girls make me laugh. I think Daniel Craig is the hottest thing to ever act. I have also heard he is very, very, very press/fan shy. I think he could quite possibly have some sort of anxiety related condition associated with it. I'm not sure why he ever became an actor, but hey, I am not complaining. He does have quite a body. Yum, yum!

  18. Yes he does....FROM ME!

  19. Sarah--just what I was thinking, too. Probably has anxiety/paranoia or germ phobias.

Like my old waitress friends who were petrified in social situations--what a bizarre business to be in if people scare you...

  20. For some reason, I got the impression that celebrities liked NYC because fans are less likely to bother them on the streets there. Was that wrong? Paparazzi would be a different story.

If he has a stalker, I think he'd be safer to track them down and prosecute them rather than hire bodyguards.

  21. Mikey - I would love to go with you.

  22. Sounds like he's a little miffed, actually.

Celebs can walk down the street in NYC and not be hassled. New Yorkers are cool like that. I've seen a million (not really) celebs walking down the street and I've never seen anyone bother them. I saw Tina Fey in the playground the other day and although some of the moms I was chatting with ADORE her as much as I do, none of us approached her. It's not done.

I know tourists will approach, but not as often as you might imagine.

  24. Daniel Craig has a female stalker located in New Orleans. When he's in the States, she travels to be where he is. Looks to me like a cost of doing business if they want him to work in NYC.

    February 27, 2007

"Daniel Craig knows how to play it smart and steer clear from crazy, stalker fans.

hired two body doubles to escape an over-zealous fan at the Oscars.

The handsome Bond star was nervous about an obsessed New Orleans woman turning up and harassing him so he enlisted the help of two look-a-likes to avoid any unwanted attention.

A source told Britain's Daily Star newspaper, "Daniel was extremely well looked after and security was at an all-time high. Daniel has had one woman from New Orleans trail his whereabouts every time he is in America. She always pushes to get hold of him and threatened to handcuff herself to him should she get near him either at the awards or at the Vanity Fair after-show party. So two decoys who looked just like him were hired for extra protection."

  25. Oh dear, watcher.

As much as I adore watching DC movies, I would never play the role of stalker. That makes me feel real sorry for him. How frightening.

  26. He actually has a body worth guarding.

    But so does Hugh.

I have GOT to get tickets...

  27. Ms Cool - I have bookmarked your site.

Daniella, for the longest time I thought, "why would Daniel Craig think he's Robert Plant?" I finally figured it out.

Give the guy a break. If he has a crazed stalker, let him have his bodyguards.

  28. I met Daniel Craig and Satsuki Mitchell in NYC last weekend. They were both very nice and gracious. Craig's security was pretty hunky too... no complaints here.
