I know that Solange Knowles sings but is she really all that popular? I mean when you are more known for being the sister of someone than you are for your career or songs then chances are you are probably not making that much money. Of course who would have thought The Hills cast was pulling in $2M a year each? Solange was on Oprah and said that before she finally shaved off all her hair she was spending up to $50K a year on her hair and spending two days a week in salons. That is a bunch of money to spend on hair.
I would probably spend that much money to get some hair, but that is just me. I am thinking of getting one of those hair pieces that Homer Simpson once rocked. Long hair down to the shoulders or something. Anyway, where does Solange get the money? Is Beyonce giving her that much money where Solange can spend $50K a year on hair. That is after tax money people. Before taxes that would probably be $70K a year. How many people here earn $70K a year and to think about spending it all on hair? Crazy.
i dunno, she's got a lot of fans through twitter,but her music gets no radio play up here so it's hard to say.

ReplyDeleteSolange is a very, VERY successful songwriter. Although Beyonce does some of her own writing, Solange has also written from her. I think if you google "Solange" and "songwriting" you'll get plenty of hits.
ReplyDeleteAs a black woman who regularly gets tressed, I think she's a FOOL to spend that kind of money on her hair. She spent more than the MEDIAN household income in the US on her damn hair. I think spending $5K/year would be ridiculous, let alone $50K.

I think the blind was generally agreed to be Hillary Duff and her sister Hailey, which makes perfect sense to me. Though I would have LOVED it to be Ms. B and her sister.

I agree with Kimberly. And I'll add: With Solange's hair long, it just looks like a weave anyway, and she ends up looking just average and generic. She's really very pretty with her hair that short though and you can clearly see her facial structure (wish I had it), and I wish more girls liked to wear their hair natural instead of like a boring, generic black Barbie. (*no offence meant at all to anyone)
ReplyDeleteI'm surprisingly fond of Solange. I think it was her good showing in the Fug Madness this spring -- she gives it her all, and she brings her A game, when she has to dress up for the public. I can't stand that older sister of hers, though.

I would estimate my yearly hair care spending to be $700.00 , but I'm lazy and only touch up my streaking every two months.

ReplyDeleteThe one song I know of hers is used in a L'Oreal Feria ad. And the only reason I know it's her is because the song played all the time last year when I spent five weeks in Tokyo. I think she also has a purse line with her sister. At least I think it was her in the ads with Beyonce (again in Tokyo where every single woman has at least two designer purses).

Solange's CD is excellent. The payola required to get your music played in America is crap. She hot overseas. $50K a year for haircare is crap, that's why she cut it off. Girlfriend is smart! I respect that!

I thought that blind was maybe Ashley Tisdale. I read somewhere that her sister doesn't mind being lesser known because Ashley is the one who loves the fame and spotlight.

Good for her on cutting her hair and saving some money. The amount of money AND time that brown women spend dumping chemicals and horsetails on their head is ridiculous! And for the commenter that said she might be popular in Asia, I can tell you that no one's heard of her ass in China, because I never heard any of her songs for the 3 years I lived there. Nevertheless, I don't particularly like or dislike the gal, and her last few singles have been catchy enough.
ReplyDeleteWait - I'm confused - didn't she have a contract with L'oreal to promote their Feria haircolor product? Wouldn't L'oreal then be on the hook for weave maintenance/coloring, etc? Why would she personally be paying $50G for hair, then - who wrote her L'oreal contract? At least get a tax break for job-related expenses, sheesh!
