Today's Blind Items
This C list actor used to be a B lister. A very solid B lister. He was on two of the funnier shows ever on television. Since his last hit show ended, he has gone from job to job but has never repeated his earlier success. Our actor is married with child/ren but he has a place he runs to in LA to get away from his family and which he uses as a base for his activities with other men. A couple of weeks ago our actor was walking his dog when he ran into a a guy on the street. The guy on the street was also walking a dog and the two started chatting and then before you knew it our actor asked the other man out. The man on the street stated he already had a boyfriend, so no. Soon after our actor walked away. Several other times the man on the street has seen our actor with his dog and with other men, but never his wife or child/ren. The funny thing about this is that our actor was on a show which had a large number of gay actors so you would think he would feel comfortable coming out.
Eric McCormick?
ReplyDeleteOh please not Eric McCormick!
ReplyDeleteDave Foley - Kids in the Hall & Newsradio.
ReplyDeleteTed McGinley
ReplyDeleteGood guess Cancan
ReplyDeleteWoody Harrelson?
ReplyDeleteCheers and Will and Grace being the two shows?
I was thinking Kelsey Grammer.
ReplyDeleteFor McGinley I was going with Happy Days and Married With Children. Like the Harrelson guess too, but McCormick? What was 2nd hit show?
ReplyDeleteSchmaddaKid beat me to it. I'm thinking Kelsey Grammer too.
ReplyDeletewas there anyone else gay on 'frasier' in real life other than niles? daphane? the old dad?
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking Kelsey Grammer also...
ReplyDeleteFirst guess was Will Arnett, but he wouldn't fit the clues.
ReplyDeleteKelsey Grammer is a great guess
Kelsey Grammer. Gotta be.
ReplyDeleteQS: Dan Butler (Bulldog) is very openly out.
I'm going with Kelsey Grammer.
ReplyDeleteBut McGinley I just love that one.
Married with Children, Love Boat, Happy Days. I think only the first one is true Comedy.
Both Frasier and Cheers were very funny shows.
Love Dave Foley too, but I don't think he is married or has kids???
i thought Eric Mabius but i think he is still on ugly betty
ReplyDeleteDave Foley is married and does have kids.
ReplyDeleteKelsey Grammer seems like a good guess.
i'm going with dave foley. he's been married since 2002 and has a daughter.
ReplyDeleteI don't know about this, but my first thought was Jeffrey Tambor. He was on Arrested Development, and also a few episodes of Golden Girls - two shows that I believe Enty would consider to be among the funniest ever. Definitely married. Definitely with child/ren.
ReplyDeleteWho was gay on Arrested Development or Golden Girls?
ReplyDeletedave foley has children and was married, but got divorced last year or the year before. so isn't him.
ReplyDeleteI like the Dave Foley guess. Since News Radio, he's been on everything guesting, but no ongoing hit success....Unless you count Celebrity Poker Showdown! : )
ReplyDeleteHe's been married twice with three kids, but divorced last year. Guess it's not him if the BI guy is currently married.
Kelsey Grammer
ReplyDeleteThe other gay actors being David Hyde Pierce, the guy who played Bulldog, (they are both out) and rumored to be gay John Mahoney.
dont agree with the guess but as an avid fan of both; on arrested development Tobias was closeted and on Golden Girls first season their male housekeeper was very out
ReplyDeleteI don't think Kelsey Grammer would take such a risk as asking a man out on a date. And I would think Grammer was a very solid A-lister, not B-lister.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the Dad on Frasier is gay in real life.
ReplyDeleteA friend of mine attended Bulldog's wedding--to a guy, and he's totally out.
Another reason you'd think KG would come out based on the show is that it was a running gag that people thought Frasier was gay. The original station manager and a character played by Patrick Stewart came on to him and there were gayish scenes between Kelsey and DHP. Their stepmother even called them the Duke and the Duchess. DHP didn't even play Niles straight, despite his obsession with Daphne and only a gay man would marry Maris.
ReplyDeleteI've never even heard of Dave Foley, so I don't know how solidly B-list he was. (As I'm a celebrity junkie, of course)
ReplyDelete@Cheryl, it used to bother me that Niles was so enamored of Daphne--I mean, come ON. Loved the character, but why not just make him gay?
ReplyDeleteKelsey Grammer has been above a B lister - at one time he was an A lister.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it is
ReplyDeleteKelsey Grammer.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that when you have 5 Emmy wins, 2 shows that you starred in for a combined 464 episodes and have executive produced 3 shows that have more than 90 airings each, you are pretty much A list in perpetuity. So in a nutshell I'm going to have to say no to the Kelsey Grammar guess.
ReplyDeleteI agree about Kelsey. He's too much of an A lister. Dave Foley is a great guess, though.
ReplyDeleteWhat about Ted Danson? Cheers and Becker?
ReplyDeleteWhat about Ted Danson? Cheers and Becker?
ReplyDeleteWhat about Ted Danson? Cheers and Becker?
ReplyDeleteI thought John Mahoney came out.
ReplyDeleteKelsey Grammar is sold A-list. Two major tv hits (Cheers and Frasier), lots of producing (google him and lots of producer credits will show)...probably disqualify him for this.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, Dave Foley is an excellent guess, as is Eric McCormack.
Who make up the "large number of of gay actors" with Dave Foley? On "The Kids in the Hall," only Scott Thompson is gay, and on "News Radio," only Andy Dick would come to mind as a possibility.
ReplyDeleteIf you want to count "Will and Grace," instead, are we counting guest stars or something? Because Sean Hayes is the only regular cast member that comes to mind - and he's not even out as far as I know.
Dang!
john mahoney is out...bulldog is gay and so is dhp...kelsey
ReplyDeleteHayes is def gay, friend of mine dated him. But what other show has Eric McCormick been on that was one of the funniest shows on television?
ReplyDeleteWell, I guess part of what the blind is saying is that you never quite know who is gay... So I suppose just about anyone could have been gay on Arrested Development or Golden Girls.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I agree my guess probably isn't right but it's the first and only person I thought of. And I thought it was interesting.
Tambor also has been on Entourage in a recurring role.
ReplyDeletespeaking of Arrested Development - I'm pretty sure Bateman is married with family, although I can't think of another top show he's been on.
ReplyDeleteportia de rossi was on arrested dvlpt, could she be one of the gay costars?
ReplyDeletei like kelsey for this one too, he immediately sprang to mind.
ReplyDeleteJeffrey Tambor was also on The Larry Sanders Show - definitely regarded as one of the funnier shows on television (and Enty has commented on his love of Larry Sanders in the past).
ReplyDeleteTed Danson was my guess
ReplyDeletetambor & foley are solid, glad someone else remembered the larry sanders show for tambor (which I think came out on DVD today.... could be topical)
ReplyDeletekelsey grammer has a few $10,000,000+ houses in malibu and BH so LA couldn't be his "getaway" and he's A-list as one of the most successfull TV actors of all time... so no
i wonder if Kelsey Grammar would be bold enough to ask a guy out on the street, though. Isn't he one of the most openly-Republican people in Hollywood? he might be more discreet for that...
ReplyDeletealso, not sure if this would count as a "hit" show, but Eric McCormick had a regular guest spot on the second season of Dead Like Me -- which I would consider one of the funnier comedies. twisted, but funny.
The Grammar guesses *seem* good, except the B/C list thing completely DQ's him.
ReplyDeleteThe Woody Harrelson guess is also appealing, but I don't really think you can consider doing a lot of movies (with several hits) as having "gone from job to job."
So, I have no clue who.
Ted Danson is hilarious on Curb Your Enthusiasm and even better on Bored to Death. Doesn't help with the blind but it had to be said.
ReplyDeleteMy first thought was Kelsey, but I wouldn't call him a c-lister. And if he's not A-list now, he certainly was during Frasier and Cheers. He's also worked steadily since Frasier ended, rather than gone from job to job (which I'm thinking means one or two episodes or bit parts here and there). so I think he should be eliminated.
ReplyDeleteTambor is an interesting guess. I can't really think of anyone else. I don't know who Dave Foley is.
Wasn't it thought for a long, long time that Dave Foley was the only straight guy in Kids in the Hall?
ReplyDeleteIsn't Jeffrey Tambor really high up on the $cio brain wash chain? I think it would be major news if it was him.
FYI, KG also does the voice of Side Show Bob on the Simpson's, so there's another popular comedy he was part of.
ReplyDeletesinefeld, friends, mash, designing women, ned and stacy, all in the family, Larry Sanders - HBO
ReplyDeleteDream On - HBO
Mr. Show - HBO
Monty Python - BBC
Fawlty Towers - BBC
The Young Ones - BBC
Malcolm in the Middle
Married with Children
In Living Color
SNL (first couple of seasons)
SCTV
30 rock
Kelsey Grammar. Running to L.A. is something he would have to do from Malibu. Depending upon traffic, it takes 30-60 mins. to get from there to there, especially if one of the Malibu houses is really far west off Hwy 1. And was the subject walking his dog on Point Dume, a known gay spot for decades, or in L.A. near his getaway pad?
ReplyDeleteI served David Foley once with his daughter and I never got the vibe from him. Plus the city in which I live has a MASSIVE gay community, so it wouldn't have been hard to find a willing participant.
ReplyDeleteWhat about Bryan Cranston? He was on Seinfeld, and of course, Malcolm in the Middle. Married w/one child.
ReplyDeleteKelsey?
ReplyDeleteHe's married to a former playmate, isn't he? And I thought he was A-list once upon a time? He does a lot of producing now, I understand.
I immediately thought of Jason Alexander, dunno why.
What does a "large number of gay actors" mean? Are they out or just assumed gay?
Fred Savage? Not sure of his credits beyond Wonder Years though, I thought he did some other shows.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely not Fred. Wonder Years isn't known for being one of the funniest shows ever, and neither is Working. Plus, I've known him since he was 13, and never got the gay vibe from him.
ReplyDeletefor some reason, after reading the comments, kevin nealon popped into my head, but then weeds is doing good now so that wouldn't fit, HOWEVER my immediate thought was Ted Danson and for some reason, i have a strong suspicion that this is about him.
ReplyDeleteEric McCormick. All you ever see him in is guest spots these days.
ReplyDeleteDave Foley is soo cute, those of you who haven't seen Kids in the Hall or NewsRadio should try to catch them on DVD
ReplyDeleteKelsey Grammer. He is a known kink, actually, so hooking up with another man is actually fairly tame for him.
ReplyDeleteKelsey Grammer, a C-lister. In which universe?
ReplyDeleteYeah, too bad KG is A -list -ä he fit so perfectly otherwise...
ReplyDeleteI wonder what the large number is.. I mean, there has to be more than, say 3-4?
chopchop, I love Danson on Bored to Death! I've been trying to convince people to watch but to no avail.
ReplyDeleteDave Foley was never a B actor. I'm going with Eric McCormick. He played gay a little too well.
ReplyDeleteThis is a hard one...
ReplyDelete(That's what he said! *insert laugh track here*)
Bryan Cranston is on Breaking Bad and it's doing really well so can't be him..
ReplyDeleteMy first though was Kelsy, but he is def. A list.
I'm going to have to go with Dave Foley FTW!! I always had the gay vibe from him!
My first thought actually was Garry Shandling. But only the "two of the funnier shows" actually fits, alas. No wife, no kid/s. I suck at these.
ReplyDeleteAnother site suggested Tony Danza. Probably "solid B" while in Taxi and Who's The Boss, but no real hits since the latter ended in 1992. So probably C today. Married with children.
ReplyDeleteJohn Larroquette, just to throw out a new name. Married, 3 kids; Two shows Enty might be talking about: Night Court and the John Larroquette Show(?)
ReplyDeleteHey, I *really* like the Laroquette guess -- those seem like the kind of shows that Enty would describe as two of the funnier shows ever on TV (I just can't imagine he would say that about Will & Grace or Who's the Boss.)
ReplyDeletewho said Tony Danza?
ReplyDeleteAnnMarie, thanks for saying what I was going to say! :-)
ReplyDeleteDon't think it's Kelsey, either, because it makes no mention of his CURRENT show, which I think Enty would have done.
No idea on who it is, though, but I'll throw out this: Gotta be someone New York based. I get this from "he has a place he runs to in LA to get away from his family." Now if he's a family man in LA with his family, it'd look awfully strange for him to be prowling around. Makes more sense that he and his fam live on the other coast and he goes to LA and prowls without the wifey suspecting anything.
all the blind says is that "he has a place he runs to in LA to get away from his family, and to use as a base for his activities with other men."
ReplyDeleteto me, that implies that he has a house or apt that his wife doesn't know about, where he can do secret stuff. doesn't mean he doesn't live in LA with him family.
I have a new idea.
ReplyDeleteTom Cavanaugh, who was JD's brother Dan on Scrubs, and had his own show, Ed, that was considered a funny drama. He's married with 3 kids.
I was actually worried this might be Grammer. Bulldog, the dad and Niles, and supposedly, Roz, were all played by Gay Actors. Actually, Niles, Bulldog and the dad have all confirmed they are gay. Roz has not.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard anything about Roz being a lesbian. She's married and has two kids. But you're right about Niles, Bulldog and the father being gay.
ReplyDelete
