Marissa Jaret Winokur Gets Booted From Dance Your Ass Off For Body Issues

Full disclosure. I know the Executive Producer (Lisa Ann Walter) of Dance Your Ass Off and if this is true it really makes me question all the stuff she has espoused about size and body issues over the time I have known her. Dance Your Ass Off is going to have a new host for the upcoming season. No longer will Marissa Jaret Winkour be the host. Now it will be Mel B. The producers of the show say the decision to replace Marissa was mutual. This is what Marissa had to say.

“Marissa’s reasons for not returning to season 2 are the following: the format of the program did not allow her to interact with the contestants and offer them encouragement and support, and criticism she received from producers regarding her appearance."

To me that means the producers thought she was fat and probably told her this more than once. This is a show about people embracing who they are as people. Sure, the idea is to lose weight, but to throw someone up there like Mel B who weighs what, 85 pounds kind of defeats the whole purpose. Was Marissa the best host in the whole world? No, but all the producers are doing is telling the world they don't believe what they are trying to sell on the show. They are trying to sell that all people no matter their size are beautiful, but then kick off Marissa and replace her with someone who is not typical and instead is probably a size zero and has fake breasts and says this is the ideal.

The producers' official statement is that the core fans of the show grew up Spice Girl fans so this is what they really want. Uh huh.

  1. Core audience is Spice Girl fans? that would be about 12 audience members~totally about Marissa's weight

  5. This is one of my guilty pleasure shows. I love dancing and I love seeing everyone's journey through the weight loss. I must say though, Marissa was one of the bad points of the show, as far as I'm concerned. I didn't think she did that great of a job of hosting, but what really was disturbing is just how TIGHT the clothes she wore on camera were. Seriously, she looked like she was going to pass out from not being able to breathe most of the time. She always looked extremely uncomfortable in the clothes. I'm no fan of Mel B. but to be honest, I care more about the contestants than who's hosting it, so it doesn't matter to me. The contestant's stories were always very inspirational to me. But I must admit, it does kind of send a bad message to get someone thinner to host. I guess time will tell...

  7. Didn't Mel B lose a ton of weight from dancing?

I would take her as a host anyday over Marissa. I don't think it's all about appearance.

  8. Susan, I have to respectfully disagree with you. I think it is all about appearance. I think they are hypocrites.

  9. Fwiw, I think Mel B is relatively heavy. Not mind you that the girl has an ounce of fat, but that kind of muscle is heavy. Also, I think she's too buff to be a size zero. But many a healthy size 8.

  10. Sheeeeiiiit, Mel B. might've gotten down below 120 when she was on DWTS but she ain't no 85 lbs. then OR now. No way! With those hooters? Even her neck looks hefty (reminiscent of Kimora Lee, anyone?) in most photos.

Maybe Marissa just got on their last NERVE so they canned her and blamed it on her appearance? I mean, she's a total sweetheart, but dayum. Girl IS a bit over the top with all that bubbliness and chipperness all.

Gosh, this sounds so mean...but I'm bedridden with flu so eff it.

  11. ITA that Mel B. ain't no 85 pounds. I think she looks great, but 85 lbs is more like La Lohan or those druggy skinny girls.

I don't watch this program, but I do watch DWTS. Based on that, Marissa's personality makes me want to rip my eyeballs out. Mel B is more engaging, I believe. If this is a program about weightloss via dance, than I would think Mel B is more inspirational than Marissa since Mel B has successfully shed some pounds. Just my humble opinion.

I don't understand why this is being blamed just on Marissa's weight. Perhaps her hosting capabilities weren't so hot?

  12. Melanie Brown is so gorgeous...i wonder what eyeshadow she is using.

I think that this is a situation of he says vs. she says and so no one will never know the truth and probably both are equally to blame.

  13. I like PBS more and more...

  14. I'm only gauging my opinion from the both of 'em on DWTS, but I'd have to go with Mel B. over Marissa. Marissa's fakey I'm so happy all the damn time stuff drove me wacko. Mel B. can be quite outspoken and may bring a Simon aspect to the show.

I thought Ms. Walter had her own weights issues so I hope it isn't based on looks. But, The Biggest Loser got rid of Caroline Rhea so who knows?

  15. Marissa was one of the big girls on DWTS and I was always embarrassed for her whenever the male partner had to lift her. I didn't think it was possible to do it without him getting a back ache and dropping her. She was heavy and certainly not graceful enough for the dances. Also she's very bubbly but in a way that I find annoying.

I'm no big fan of the Spice Girls but Mel B may be just a tad better than Marissa for this program. Or they could hire Lil Kim I know she could use the work. LOL!

I do think Marissa is perfect for Broadway.

    JMHO

  16. Hm, I'm a SG fan and I'm not gonna watch this show. I like to keep it old school and listen to their first 2 albums. None of the crap afterwards so thanks but no thanks

It seems sad that they have a double standard but at least Mel B is healthy.

  18. i know one of the judges and she's a total see-you-next-tuesday...sounds like the producer is too.

  19. @ Pookie, ok I just had to google what that phrase meant. LOL

I feel bad for the girl. I would not be surprised if it was a combination of her weight and personality though. I watched her on DWTS and while very sweet she could be a little over the top at times.

  20. Mel B is hilarious. When she was on DWTS, every time she'd finish a dance, she'd slap Tom Bergeron on the ass!

  21. I only know these chicks from DWTS. Mel B all the way. She has talent and is real. She is a healthy weight. That Marissa chick is annoying(and I didn't think she could dance).
    My opinion, nothing profound :)

  22. Marissa is realllllly annoying. I don't think Mel whatever is a good fit per se, but it doesn't really matter.. seriously, all she does is introduce the people and say a few things. It's about the people, not the host.

  23. "The core of the shows viewers are Spice Girl fans". That is just a sad statement on so many levels. I have no idea who the first person was, but if Mel B is supposed to be an upgrade this show has to be a mess. Mel is dumb and tacky to be sure, so that says a lot about the producers right there.
