No Criminal Charges For David Copperfield In Sex Assault Case

I guess this wasn't unexpected but I'm still convinced that David Copperfield is probably getting away with something in the accusations of rape for which he was being investigated. A US Attorney in Seattle stated yesterday they would not be filing charges against Copperfield for his actions in 2007 on his private island in the Bahamas. The US Attorney in his statement said, "Neither the investigation, nor its termination, should be perceived as a comment on guilt or innocence." That is something there. According to the report filed back in 2007, a 23 year old woman who is a former model and waitress was pulled out of the crowd at a Copperfield show and later was invited to his island in the Bahamas where she alleges that he sexually assaulted her.

Her civil case is still pending, but now I have to wonder how that is going to work out for her. Last month the woman made a sexual assault claim against another man and police are investigating her for making it all up and her for soliciting prostitution. That isn't good at all. I still think something happened on that island but it also disturbs me that she filed a false report for sexual assault against a guy. According to the police, the woman was waiting tables at a restaurant and decided to meet with a customer after work. She and another woman met the man, but the other woman left because the other two were kissing and groping so much that she was uncomfortable. Copperfield's accuser and the other man rented a hotel room, and surveillance images showed them kissing and holding each other in the lobby.

The woman later exited the hotel room and told hotel staff the man took advantage of her. She said she was dizzy and couldn't remember what happened, but only awoke to find him on top of her, police said. But the man called police, saying she left the room and falsely accused him to the staff because he refused to pay her $2,000 for sex.

If a jury hears about this they will never believe her about David Copperfield even if she was sexually assaulted by him.

  1. Is $2000 the going rate now?

even though i agree something inappropriate happened, if i was the US Attorney, i'd not waste the court's time trying this one either. his defense team will attack her credibility so much that he'd get off anyway. let her use the civil court system

  4. Kinda puts a new perspective on the whole deal, doesn't it? I remember when this was first reported and I thought David was guilty as hell.

More importantly though, he needs to soften that hair color.

  5. Women like this undermine the fight of those women who truly ARE assaulted and don't, for whatever reason, receive justice. In my opinion, any woman who files false assault charges should face some sort of consequences.

  6. @califblondy - if only he could be charged for that hair color!

People who make false claims should be charged as if they committed the offense; they only make it more difficult for women who legitimately file for any kind of sexual assault.

I third Babs!! Sexual assault is a SERIOUS crime with lasting repercussions for the victim & I hate seeing women filing false reports for whatever reasons.

That being said....David C. is kinda creepy looking.

  9. I agree with Babs et al also, but I was questioning this woman's story before, when I heard she hopped on a plane to his place in Bahamas without a second thought.

  10. I don't know who is worse...the women with the false accusations or the attorneys who represent them? Like that damn Gloria Alred.

    *LOL*

He's a tool, but jeez, what did she expect? She's hoping he will make her disappear with some big time hush money. Claudia Schiffer used to sleep with this douche? Uggghhh!

  13. Back in the day I always read that Claudia Schiffer was his beard. She was 18 or 19 in 2007. It sounds like she was/is young and stupid. If it happened, it could have led her to spiral out of control, especially with heavy drinking.

That said he has always had a 'mean' vibe to me.

  14. I think it's horrible. There is a very good chance he is innocent. She doesn't consent to sex by flying to the Bahamas and she doesn't consent to sex by going to someone's hotel room.

BUT - she's sketch and 90% of the people made up their minds that he was guilty and there isn't even enough evidence to CHARGE him. Do you understand how little evidence you need to charge a person?

  15. I agree with Babs. Hope your day gets better.

  17. Yeah...as if often the case, the accusation alone isn't proof of anything.

It is starting to sound like this woman is trying to use her beauty and the law as a quick rich scheme. One time makes it a possiblilty, two makes you wonder. If she does it a third time (for what 3rd year in a row?) then you know you have a girl with serious issues (or no conscience since crap like this doesn't help real victims get justice).

  18. I'd just like to know what is that thing on his head?

  19. Okay he didn't rape a woman who calls herself a Former Miss Washington, he probably paid her to come to his island and raped her when she said no. Comme ci, comme ça
