Trinidad & Tobago Tell Beyonce To Stay Away

As you may have guessed, a performance by Beyonce doesn't come cheap. In fact it is so expensive that she is single handedly ruining Trinidad's annual Carnival. How? Well, usually the Carnival has numerous acts from throughout the world that perform, but this year Beyonce agreed to pay. The cost of having her perform and all her requirements has forced the Carnival to cut back on the number of acts to a handful and Beyonce.

The cost of the Beyonce concert is about $1.75M and the entire budget for the Carnival is about $2M. So, the island residents are taking to their Twitter and have set up petitions to try and get Beyonce to cancel her shows. One person had this to say about it in a Tweet.

"Beyonce can kiss my ass. I refuse to give up Carnival to go to a concert to see her perform songs I have seen on YouTube."

  1. Shouldn't they be directing their anger toward the festival organizers, who hired her? Why fault Beyonce for charging what obviously people are willing to pay around the world? That's free enterprise, people. Deal with it. If they don't like it, they shouldn't go to Carnival.

  2. I wouldn't pay $10 to see Beyonce live.

  3. I really hope the people of the islands win this one.

  5. I am an avid anti-Beyonce person now after seeing that she accepted money from Gadaffi.

That said, I was wondering. Is the money they are spending go directly to her? Or does that include all of the travel expenses for the band, equipment, etc...as well? I wonder how much the artist actually gets out of that.

  6. Well in her defense *shudders* she does seem kind of clueless about real life...maybe she's unaware she's breaking the bank.

Or, maybe she really doesn't care.

  7. What nunaurbiz said. I'm no fan of Beyonce, but they are the ones hiring her. I'd just boycott it.

  8. loving the beyonce backlash, but i agree with nunaurbiz that the organizers really should have managed this better. of COURSE beyonce's going to take take take all that money at the expense of the entire thing, would we expect anything else from her at this point?

  9. I feel badly that at least one person thinks she actually "performs" anything. Enjoy your $1.75 million dance-and-lip-synching show, T&T.

  10. They should be yelling at the Carnival organizers, not Beyonce. Its not up to her to cancel, its up to the organizers to realize the importance of giving the people there what they expect every year.

  11. does anyone really think Beyonce is talented? she is a joke. it just underscores the dumbing down of the world by the music moguls pushing their product. This person, who is marginally talented at best, is considered one of the best singers around? I am baffled by it.

  12. I saw a blurb on MSNBC, I think, stating that Beyonce was hired by that Gadhafi abuser's brother. That's better - I'm sure he is a great person considering his father and all.

  13. @ms. cool - that was actually a statement on her website

    http://www.beyonceonline.com/us/home

suuuure, like being raised by a murderer and having a brother who is a murderer would never rub off on him! he's okay, we promise!

i wonder if they knew this mess was about to break so they tried to sweep that one under the rug as quickly as possible?

  14. I wouldn't see her for free. Yuck!

  15. The organizers are the one that hired her, so they should be mad at them not her. In this instance. I don't know what caliber of artists they've had in the past? Or should we be mad at her for not lessening the cost of her contract?

  16. I wonder how long ago they signed this contract. Carnival is just around the corner, so this deal might be rather old. Are people just finding out about it now, or is someone looking for a way out of the contract? Either way, you don't skip Carnival. It's everywhere. It's just a shame that beyonce is everywhere as well.

  17. I go to Trinidad and Tobago yearly. Beyonce will subtract from Carnival not add to it. The T&T organizers should've known better.

  18. I think Beyonce is very talented. I don't personally care for her politics, but to say that woman can't sing is a little silly.

  19. Of course they're gonna be mad at beyonce, even if she has no clue what's going on she's the name they're paying for. The face, the brand.

  20. ice angel, normally, the #s that get released publicly in a situation like that include all production/logistical expenses, as well as salaries and per diems for each member of the crew and staff...she still ends up w/ serious baller bucks tho.

  21. She just keeps stepping in it doesn't she?

If she is truly that unaware then she won't have a dime by the time she is 60 because people will rob her blind.

  22. BEYONCE SUCKS-UNWATCHABLE on the tube

  23. Do people really not find "Single Ladies" catchy? I totally do, even if I don't like her actions.

  24. Beyonce's greed is turning into a PR nightmare for her. I wonder if it's the beginning of the end, thankfully? I've always thought she was overrated so this kind of makes me happy that she's getting hated on so much. Can't wait to see those kids she has with JayZ though.

  25. $2M budget? are you referring to TSTT's budget? Because I estimate the budget for all of carnival is plenty more than that.
