What Do You Think?

So, with Simon Cowell leaving American Idol after this season and moving on to his beloved X factor, what is in store for Paula Abdul? I don't know if Simon was joking or serious when he said that he would love to have Paula as a judge on his show. I think he was just being nice. Have you noticed how quickly Paula has disappeared from the radar of the world? Until yesterday had anyone really mentioned her in months? This is why you do not walk away from a hit television show. You take their money and keep going to work. It isn't like the work was demanding or anything. So, what do you think? Will Paula be a judge on X Factor? Should she be a judge on it? Will she get another chance in Idol now that Simon is gone?

  1. Probably just said that to be nice. He might have her on the X-Factor as a guest judge, but I don't see anything happening past that.

  2. Ugh, who cares? American Idol is nothing but a glorified karaoke contest, and I've not seen X-Factor but I imagine it is much of the same.

  3. I think he'd take her just for the publicity. Simon and Paula together again! Yipee.

And after that dies down he'll fire her just for the publicity.

  4. Maybe I'm crazy but I get the feeling he really likes her.....I still don't understand why he is quitting American Idol to do the exact same job on a different show.

  5. I could see them bringing her back to AI when Simon is gone just to help boost the ratings which are bound to drop without Simon. Otherwise, why bother?

Simon owns X-Factor, so he could stand to make at least $100+ mil/yr if it is a hit here, which it prob will be with him around.

I think he "only" makes $50 mil/yr off AI. Not sure what he gets from any syndication/producing money from AI. Regardless, he owns every aspect of X-Factor, so he stands to make a killing.

  8. Simon & Paula are actually pretty good friends off the air, and she was very popular on AI. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if he brought her onboard X-Factor, and if he does she should sit there and take whatever they give her and be grateful for a fourth chance at a career.

  9. I don't care what Paula's going to do next, but American Idol won't be the same show without Simon Cowell. They'll hire another judge who will try to be "the mean one", just for the sake of being mean. Simon can be a grouch sometimes but he is also usually right. When I used to watch that show and people got upset because of what Simon said, it always pissed me off because HE WAS RIGHT!!! *L*

  12. ITA that Simon cares for Paula. Since he doesn't own AI, her quarrel was not with him as far as her salary.

What I heard today about 'X-Factor' is that the judges have more contact with the contestants and are more coaching and encouraging. I think that is PERFECT for Paula.
She not especially bright, but Paula is great at positive reinforcement. It would also be better for her if she had more time with the contestants, so they would be able to suss out what she's trying to tell them.

  15. I think it's entirely possible that they (producers, judges) knew this would be the last season of American Idol because ratings have dropped and it's getting tired... so... maybe this is all just a ploy to drive ratings up to get people to watch what will be the last season (known by all the producers and judges back when all the dramz started). It all seems just a little convenient to me.

  17. I think it would be a great move for him to put her on.

  18. Thank you for clarifying that @ Mr. Yardeeds!

I agree. I'm not going to watch Idol without Simon...even though I do love Ellen.

  19. I think he will have her on X-Factor. I think they are better friends than their on air act indicated, and that he's more loyal than his snarky persona indicates. I can take AI or leave it, and without Simon, I will definitely be leaving it.

  20. X Factor is very different. AI focus on singers up to age 29. Xfactor has no age requirements and focuses on all round performing. Groups are included. Each judge is responsible for a group i.e. girls 10 -21, men 21 and over, and coaches the contestants in their group personally. The judges are much more critical as well. They would be more hands on in developing the talent. Paula would be a good fit however I doubt it would happen.

  21. Any chance Paula pushed to get herself off AI so that Simon could hire her w/great fanfare and L&Ks for X Factor [knowing that Simon and thus AI would end after this year]? Would something like that be put in play so far ahead? Would it get any PR? Sorry, i don't watch AI or know anything about XF.
