How Much Is Julia Roberts Worth?

By the time you finish reading this little post you could have earned yourself $500,000. Actually if you are a slow reader you could have earned even more as long as your name is Julia Roberts. New York Magazine is reporting that Julia Roberts was paid $3M for her role in Valentine's Day. That doesn't seem like a lot until you realize that she is in the movie for six minutes. That is $500K a minute. Oh, and she is one of two people in the movie who will also get 3% of the gross which means that if the movie makes $200M worldwide, Julia would get $6M or $1M a minute. The other actor that gets the same deal is Jamie Foxx. I already know that Jamie Foxx is not worth that much. I don't think 3% of the people who come to see the movie are coming solely because of Jamie Foxx. I don't think he is the person that is pushing them over the edge to see the movie. I actually feel the same way about Julia Roberts except for one big BUT. Because she is in the movie all the ads can tout that it is a Pretty Woman reunion and that is worth some ticket sales. Without her in it all you can do is say that it is directed by the director of Pretty Woman.

Still though that is a lot of money. Oh, and from what I have seen, most of the reviews are bad, and only one review has had anything remotely positive to say about the acting of Taylor Swift.

  1. As awful as she is in real life, I still think she has an incredible screen presence, and I'd be more likely to see a movie because she's in it. I guess I'm part of the problem. :)

  2. Good afternoon, my little Mooshki!

With the exception of Pretty Woman, if Julia Roberts is in a film I WON'T go see it. They paid her $2,999,999 too much if you ask me..

  3. Didn't Jamie Fox like win an oscar...so of course he would get more money than the other actors.

I like Julia Roberts...I think she is gorgeous.

  4. I used to love her, now not so much. Charlie Wilson's war was a fiasco.

  5. Oh, Okay. So that's why she won't just go away already. Some damn body keeps paying her big bucks for the mediocre acting she's displaying lately.

Use to love her, now I'm so over her and that snobbish attitude she's acquired.

  6. Not a fan and her phony, braying laugh gets on my nerves.

I'll prolly watch it when it hits cable, though.

  7. ROTFL "braying laugh"

mngddess - my thoughts exactly. I cannot stand her.

  8. Oh and too answer your question Enty, she is worth TOO MUCH.

  9. The laugh was adorable the first few times but now, it seems like her Pavlovian response to discomfort and challenges. Very creepy and inauthentic.

  10. Her ego is writing checks that her acting can't cash.

I used to like her. Now she is just mouth and arrogance. Blech. Way too much.

And that movie in general is blech. Not that I'll spend $25 to see it.

  11. The most shocking thing about this is that Jamie Foxx is getting the same royalties on ticket sales that she's getting. I mean, Jamie Foxx, really?

I don't have a problem with JF getting movie royalties. Keanu does and his acting skills are not on par with JF's, although he's gotten better.

What's with the JR's hate? She's not a famewhore by far. Arrogance, where?

  13. Melody...she's no America's sweetheart and there are pletnly of stories rolling around to prove it. her ego is so overinflated....and she is not that great. every role the same. boring.

  14. I don't know about that Melody. I stand by my statement.

It's all about the agent, Sue! :) He must have a very good one.

  16. Melody, when she's not doing film promotion, she's really rude to people. I guess you could say she has a right not to be friendly to strangers, but I don't like that kind of attitude.

I also still like Jamie Foxx's acting and even his singing, although his ego is approaching Piddly Diddly/Shatner proportions.

  17. I actually quite liked Charlie Wilson's war, but agree that Julia was ridiculous in it.

I also agree she has a "presence" - old school movie star or something. Jamie Foxx, on the other hand, ugh. I'll go out of my way to avoid anything to do with him. THAT man has an ego.

  18. I think Jamie Foxx's appeal is to bring in a black audience even a little bit. He's arguably one of the few well-known/mainstram, affordable black actors in the age range of the rest of the cast.

I wonder what his Vs. her minutes are in the movie

  19. So is Valentine's Day going to be a dumbed down American version of Love Actually?

  20. I cannot stand Julia Roberts!!!
    Everything about her is annoying.

    I cannot stand her laugh...ughhhhh

  21. well Love Actually was pretty dumb to begin with..sorry it's not Notting Hill.

  22. A long time ago we started calling her the Pretty Ugly Woman and it had everything to do with her really gross personality. It was when she was stealing the husband away from the non-famous woman and wearing T-shirts shitting all over the non-celebrity when her true colors and courseness really shined through.

  23. I will agree that Julia has a certain appeal, but I've always thought she was quite ugly, even in Pretty Woman. The "braying laugh" is spot on, and she has said/done enough really crude and vulgar things to make her very unappealing to me. I've never thought she was a good actress, either.

  24. Cant's stand JR. I bet they have to bury her in an ensemble film...what has she opened lately? I don't think she has the star quality or charisma to carry her own film. All that crap about her turning down the movies that are star vehicles for other actresses is really annoying.

    She sucks.

  25. I'm amused by the number of people who have said, "I used to like her but now I can't stand her," or words to that effect, because that's exactly how I am. I was a huge JR fan back in the '90s - she was my girl-crush, and I'd watch anything she was in (except Mary Reilly) - and I'm not really sure when she changed for me, but I think it had something to do with the husband-stealing thing. I'll still go see the movie, though. I heard the comparisons to Love Actually, and I love that movie.

  26. I guess I'm in the minority here, but I love Julia Roberts and her movies. I would go see any movie she's in.

Plus, the movie powers-that-be evidently think she's worth it or she'd not be in the movie.

  27. I still love "Pretty Woman" though. I have to watch it every time it's on TV. And also, "Erin Brockovich".

  28. julia roberts is not a good actress. in every single movie, she's julia roberts. i've never 'bought' her in a role. and i've never understood how she got to be such a big deal.

what will be interesting is to see if she can open a movie on her own anymore. i'm not so sure she can. one thing i DO know---i won't be contributing to it.

  29. jamie fox has a very very very good agent/manager!!!

  30. I actually quite enjoyed her in "Steel Magnolias" and "Pretty Woman" and "Mystic Pizza." Yeah. I'm taking it way back.

I thought she was great in "Erin Brokovich," as well, but I agree that she is often Julia Roberts in every single movie.

She's definitely not the kind of gal I would hang with. I mean, if I had to pick an actress who seemed quasi-cool IRL, I guess it would be..... Eh. I got nothin.

  31. Oh right. Is this film supposed to be any good? The ads make it seem totally lame, IMHO.

    ReplyDelete
  32. movies with these 'casts of thousands' are rarely good. this one looks really bad and the reviews reflect that. 15% on rotten tomatoes.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I loved Steel Magnolias and Pretty Woman, but absolutely hated Erin Brockbitch. Loved Closer, but only because of Clivey poo.

I thought Love Actually was brilliant! Much better than Nodding (off) Hill.

  34. I used to love her too. Still indulge in some of the older stuff. Winning the Oscar for playing a better version of herself soured me on her. Choosing a married camera assistant when she could have had anyone and her subsequent behavior sealed the deal. Can you imagine the outrage if Angelina wore a t-shirt mocking Jennifer?? Bad form.

  35. She has a really strong personality and often times it overpowers her characters. I loved her in 'Mystic Pizza', 'Erin Brokovich' and 'The Mexican' (I'm too cynical to suspend my reality for 'Pretty Woman'). She really annoys me for some reason, and I think she's probably really cool in person. It's like my thing with Brad Pitt. I have to force myself to watch his movies, and most of the time I actually enjoy it and think he's a really good actor in his quirkier roles.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Ugh, I can't write.

    ReplyDelete
  37. yup, you can be a movie star or a genuine actor, but rarely both, and JR is the first. That category features the women who win Oscars for wearing a push-up bra and doing an accent. But although she's just a movie star, she's good enough at what she does to be paid this amount. Her name and skill will bring people in, That's what being a star means.

  38. What Tenley said...

IMO, she's no different than the women who slept with Tiger, or Sienna Miller, or .... (insert your own choices)

    ReplyDelete
  39. So she basically got the same deal Marlon Brando got with Superman?

    Meh.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Yes, but he had the talent to back up the ego and insanity. All she has is a barracuda-sized mouth, braying laugh, and huge vein in her forehead (seriously, wtf?).
