Gwyneth Paltrow Goes Honkytonk Dancing
It appears that when Gwyneth Paltrow visited Nashville a few months ago she actually, might have acted normal. I know, I know. I'm sure she was sick or will blame it on hallucinations from a bad cleanse but she went to normal places and ate normal food. In fact she seems fascinated by everyday people food. She went on a quest for the best fried chicken in Nashville and actually had the guts to say when a restaurant was bad.
"Another family run Meat & Three joint, the sides here are great, and even better than some of the other places’, but you’re better off eating fried chicken elsewhere."
This is the most normal I have ever seen Gwyneth. The entire GOOP newsletter is so normal that I thought it must have been written by someone other than her until I saw this line she wrote about her hotel. I stayed at the Hutton Hotel for 3 weeks and truly enjoyed the whole experience. A new hotel, it is very clean and exceptionally kempt.
Only Gwyneth would use the word kempt like that. This GOOP is actually worth reading. I can't believe it.
Uggh! I live in Nashville so I know she has been here. I hope or am glad she found some things up to par.
ReplyDeleteI rather enjoyed GOOP this week too & made me more determined to visit the States.
ReplyDeleteNext weeks Goop newsletter will be "Tips on purging".
ReplyDeleteI love what she said about the Hutton Hotel-"it has an eco-friendly bent, which means no bathtubs in order to conserve water."
ReplyDeleteMy gosh, whats next? Showers with a timer on them? I could have swore years ago I saw on the Discovery channel that taking a bath saves more water than a shower. Maybe I'm wrong.
I think it's the other way around, Becki. I vaguely remember something about it during h.s science class. You should try it out for yourself. Take a shower with the plug in the tub and see how much water you used.
ReplyDeleteI like Gwynnie. All this GOOP stuff just screams of a woman in an unsatisfying marriage. She tries to act so uber-domestic and it reminds me of a woman keeping busy so she doesn't have to think about what goes on at home, or do anything about it. JMO
ReplyDeleteI don't care how scarce water becomes; I cannot live without baths. I'll give up a lot of other things like a dishwasher and use a tiny fridge, but give up baths? Never.
ReplyDeleteI also thought that taking a bath was more eco-friendly.But seriously I can't stand her, she sounds like she has never ever eaten a slice of pizza and she tries so badly to be chic and french.
ReplyDeleteAs with everything related to Gwyneth, I'll just take y'all's word for it and pretend she doesn't exist.
ReplyDeletePoor nashville will never be the same... First Nicole Kidman now GOOP???
ReplyDeleteAgree with Libby - this whole GOOP thing just smacks of sad distraction and putting up a perfect front to me.
ReplyDeleteHey, Becki! I'm a Tennessee girl myself. Live closer to Memphis than to Nashville, but I LOVE Nashville. Even the Goopster isn't dumb enough or weird enough to not like Nashville.
ReplyDeleteJust like I can't stand BeYonce the same goes with FishStick lol.
ReplyDeleteI forgot to mention, I took exception glee at noticing she spelled "allowed" wrong in this week's newsletter.
ReplyDeleteI imagined writing her an email to offer to proofread for future issues, and was joyed by what I guessed would be the look on her face if she read it ;)
*exceptional glee
ReplyDeletepot, meet kettle.

ReplyDeleteIt sounds like she memorized the brochures and menu write ups to use as quotes to make her seem more human.
ReplyDelete"...exceptionally kempt?" Seriously? That's bad, Goopy, very bad.
ReplyDeleteI've had sluggish drains, so I can say for sure that I use at least as much water in a shower as a bath.
Oooh, people who live in Nashville, I'm going there for the very first time and super excited! So tell me where I should eat? that's all I plan on doing there :)
ReplyDelete@ Gretchen - don't give up your dishwasher yet because they use less water than hand washing.
ReplyDeleteEnty - I know you really don't like Goopy and I can see why you do have a problem with her, but it just seems that there are so many people who are so much worse.
I started reading Goop because of all of the negative press I have heard on here and actually have learned a lot. I consider myself pretty savvy about food and a lot of the other kinds of subjects she cover, but she frequently includes info not widely available elsewhere.
For example in one of her cooking versions, she demonstrates a method for par boiling and then shaking potatoes prior to roasting to roughen them up on the outside to make more surface to crisp up. It really makes a difference and the potatoes came out great. I have watched a lot of cooking show, eaten at a a lot of fine restaurants and own over 200 cookbooks, but this is the first I had heard of this method. I understand that it is an old technique used in parts of Europe, but several months after this particular Goop, a very well respected french cookbook author, who writes a popular blog, wrote about this roasted potato magic - but I had already learned it from Goopy.
I also appreciate that she uses and gives credit to *experts* as opposed to portraying herself as the expert. She is a good aggregator.
