Jonathan Rhys Myers Banned From United Airlines
Let this be a lesson to those of you have access to first class lounges and like getting hammered at 7am before getting on a cross country flight. Oh, and when you get drunk you get mean and nasty. Jonathan Rhys Myers is one of those people and as he could have discovered by watching that show Airline for more than one episode. Drunk and nasty people don't fly. Once they sober up though they do fly.
Jonathan Rhys Myers was apparently so mean and nasty that even should he decide to never drink again he is not welcome on a United Airlines flight in the future. Do you know how bad you have to be before an airline doesn't want your first class dollars?
With the exception of Naomi Campbell who no one wants, it really just doesn't happen at all. I'm guessing he must have done something to a crew member that an apology doesn't fix. United Airlines confirmed the incident but wouldn't confirm that Jonathan is not welcome on their airline.
You know, as an addict in recovery, I should have more sympathy. But Rhys Myers has been at this for so many years that it's hardly even worth the ink (bytes, I guess, might be more accurate) that is wasted telling about his repeatedly getting wasted in public.
ReplyDeleteAll the earlier stories were about him doing tons of stimulants and booze while flying alone. Wasted, rehab, repeat. Again and again.
I have an odd suggestion for his management team, who apparently don't care what happens to him in the long run, as long as they get paid: Hire two traveling companions to get him through the stress of flying, which clearly triggers his worse episodes. Walk him onto the flight. Keep him occupied in the airport. Charter him a flight. Or let him bottom out and take sobriety seriously, but that's the least likely outcome.
It's United. Those are the very worst flights I've ever been on. Will not fly them whenever possible. Will pay extra not to fly them. Their bathrooms are disgusting. You shouldn't know that unless you have to go in the bathroom. They're just filthy and gross, cabins too. Nastiest flights ever, more than one. I will never fly them again. They did him a favor. But, that being said, he should exercise some self control indeed.
ReplyDeleteI don't know anything about his drinking but what I don't like about him is that he's such an arrogant twit that he refuses to play the aging Henry VIII as a fat man on The Tudors. How stupid is that? I would understand if he didn't want to put on a bunch of weight for the role, but he won't even wear a fat suit. Something is seriously wrong with an actor who puts his vanity before a role, and the production company that would let him.
ReplyDeleteAh Jonathan. He's such a handsome guy, but all indications are he's terribly self-centred, and I can see him being a mean drunk. Get it together honey, you've got the looks and talent to actually last in this business!
ReplyDelete@looserdude, I haven't seen any of the 4th season, but I am very puzzled about him playing Henry thin. What is he thinking? Also, he is starting to loose his looks.
ReplyDeleteThis guy seems so obnoxious and full of himself. I don't care how good of an actor he is, no one should behave like this.
ReplyDelete@10:40 - I agree about United Airlines. I also go out of my way to avoid them, and get extremely annoyed when I book on one of their partners - like Lufthansa or SAS - and find myself on one of their bucket-of-bolts airplanes staffed by surly attendants.
ReplyDeleteThat's sad to hear he's drinking again. And looserdude, I totally wondered why Henry wasn't aging. I think a key part of Henry's last years was his health (corpulence and the wound on his leg that festerd for years (and how gross it would have been to have to marry him!))
ReplyDeleteOT, but I have fallen in love with Midwest Air. Their planes are the most comfortable I've ever been on. I'm 5'10", and I had loads of leg room, and the seats were wide enough that I didn't need to use the armrests. Also, the plane was so light that take off and landing was a breeze. I'm flying them any chance I get.
ReplyDeleteHow they're aging JRM as Henry is just too funny. Basically, each season his facial hair gets longer. And that's about as far as he's willing to take it. I remember one episode from season 3, after his Jane Seymour died, they showed him in seclusion lounging only in his robe, with the front open, and he had the most amazing 6-pack and long and lean body. Definitely fun to look at, but so historically inaccurate!
ReplyDelete@sunnyside...
ReplyDeletemaybe you're right, i remember being so smitten with him when I saw Gormenghast and now its just like eh...that being said, he's still hotter than everyone on the planet.
I've sat next to someone in coach that was too drunk before the flight took off. They were very polite to him and told him he could fly later. And he was clearly hammered. They just escorted him off the plane. Myers must have been a huge jerk for them to refuse service in the future.
ReplyDeleteI should add it wasn't UA that was so polite, so I can't speak for or against them...
ReplyDeleteI don't know anything about JRM but I will add that flying United is the worst way to get from one place to another. They are an absolute horror, from terrible service to outdated, filthy planes and bathrooms, to hostile staff. I just hate them and refuse to fly them.
ReplyDeletehe doesn't need traveling companions. he needs to go back into treatment. end of story.
ReplyDeleteyeah, the airlines suck these days. we get it. but they do NOT have to put up with drunk, belligerent assholes and he IS one.
Am I the only one to notice just how tiny his pupils are in that picture?
ReplyDeleteOk, I guess the story is ended then, nancer. Good show!
ReplyDeleteum, y'all need to remember the "the tudors" is a fictionalized version of henry VIII. it's a very good show, but it doesn't hold a candle to the pbs versions.
ReplyDeletethey play fast and loose w/ history, so henry as a thin man is the least of the problems.
besides, would we really want to see peter ustinov (pbs version circa 1968) in those steamy sex scenes?
:)
There's something wrong there.
ReplyDeleteThe Henry the VIII role he's playing right now is in a bit of a downward spiral lately.
Maybe that's making him even more douchey.
This is probably too old to bother commenting on, but I read somewhere else that he called a United worker the N word. Boo, hiss.
