Tom Cruise To Make Les Grossman Movie

Tom Cruise thinks he has found something that people love about him. Something to get the career back on track and make people forget all about his bad movie choices and that whole Scientology thing. He thinks the best way is to make a Les Grossman movie. Les is the character he first played in Tropic Thunder and then brought back again this past weekend at the MTV Movie Awards.

A whole movie of Tom Cruise as Les Grossman? That might be too much. It works best because people are not expecting it. That is what made it popular. It is a short dose thing, not a two hour movie. Of course, Saturday Night Live has made a living translating sketch characters into movies so they would probably disagree with me.

It looks like Ben Stiller will also star in the movie and maybe even direct it. The news releases from Paramount and Ben Stiller are probably funnier than the movie will be.

totally agree. it only works because it so NOT Tom Cruise we all know, but 2 hours or even 90mins is way too much.

see:Justin Timberlake in the Guru.

Okay - lambaste me if you want, but I *might* watch this. Sure, Tom is batshit crazy, but I will not deny that I generally like watching him on the screen. He's done very few crappy movies. My bf and I just saw the preview for Knight & Day and it looks pretty decent. *ducking*

I admit - I'll watch it...

Ugh.

That's okay Rocket you don't need to duck. I also liked him as Les and am interested in seeing if he can pull off a whole movie as this character.

I will definitely not be seeing this. I don't mind Tom Cruise always -- I loved Eyes Wide Shut, and the first seventeen hours of Vanilla Skies was okay (the final three weeks of it were unbearable). God, I want to see Ben Stiller onscreen again ... that's the only thing that could get me out of my cave and into the theater.

Barton, you are on a roll today.

I just don't see how that could be funny for an entire movie.

Are you kidding me? Just watching clips from the MTV show made me cringe. I realized while I was watching it that not only was I not smiling, but I had this look like someone just farted. Not even remotely funny. You might compare it to watching Andrew Dice Clay do stand up. Definitely cringe worthy. I really used to like TC, I didn't even care about him being crazy. But I have always hated the smell of desperation. And thats all I got to say about that.

Drcocks-I was just coming here to say that he reeks of desperation. I didn't see what he did on MTV but I'm sure I'd have the fart face, too.

Good God, Tom Cruise and Ben Stiller in the same movie? DIVA ALERT! Look out crew, it's going to be a rough shoot.

There's not enough money on earth to get me to watch this movie. I hate the both of 'em, and the Len Grossman character is UNfunny in the extreme.

Wow. This is not a good idea! SNL has a HORRIBLE track record trying to stretch their skits into movies. It really doesn't work. And I fear, neither will this.

Personally, I'm not a fan of Stiller or Cruise, but I can't see how this ridiculous stereotype can be sustained for an entire movie?? I just don't get it. Whoever upthread who said this reeked of desperation, you are correct.

It was funny in Tropic Thunder because it was so unexpected. People are saying this is going to be the next 'MacGruber.' I don't know what movie they saw, but the 'MacGruber' I watched sucked balls. And I usually really like that kind of movie.

Yet another nail in the coffin that is Cruise's career. This is just desperate, and he was hardly funny in Tropic Thunder. It was a shock value that wore off immediately and ended up so uncomfortable. MTV Awards was even worse. Definitely cringe-worthy and trying way too hard.. like Katie's attempt to convince us.

I did watch it and I did make the fart face. It was horrible. And ppl laughing wildly made me make the fart face even more.

I didn't think he was that funny in Tropic Thunder, so no way would I pay to see a whole movie based on this character. Maybe Tommy boy's trying to distract everyone from how awful the trailer/promos for Knight & Day look.

I agree with everything PS above wrote. With the caveat that I was amused by the dancing, however the character is an asshole of major proportions! I'll join those who don't think it can be sustained for a movie length.

Why, Tom, Why??? Yeah, the MTV skit was enough for me. I'm starting to feel a little sorry for him. Is this character that beloved from that movie even? I thought RDJ was the one that got all the good press for the movie...

I feel like the only SNL sketch comedies into movies that were good were from the 1990's cast o' characters.

Please. His performance as Grossman was campy and over the top in a way that negated the intentioned humor of the role.
I absolutely refuse to spend a dime on anything Tom Cruise is involved in. I wish this douche would just go drink some poisoned Koolaid along with the rest of his cult.

ditto ps.

*headdesk* poor suri.

I'd never seen Grossman before the MTV dance, but it struck me as a poor imitation of the Six Flags dancing guy. Now *that* guy would be funnier in a 2-hour movie.

TC has reached rock bottom in desperation, hasn't he? From Oscar-nominating roles to a bad SNL skit.

I loved the Les Grossman parts of Tropic Thunder. Will it hold up for a whole movie? Probably not but worth at least a viewing when it goes to HBO.

Right after the MTV awards, there was an article on the performance ... somewhere ... with a little questionnaire that asked "Do you feel like this performance has redeemed Tom Cruise?" and I could not believe the percentage of people who answered "yes". I have not watched the videos, didn't see "Tropic Thunder", and just find the character's appearance to be repulsive - what's that twisted mouth all about, anyway? It just does not strike me as funny, but I was never a Three Stooges fan either.

Just not funny. I don't get it.

I saw TT didn't really think it was all that funny. Les Grossman at first I was surprise to see it was Gay Cruise but that only last for a minute or two. After that I got bored since he was screaming a lot and it got to my nerves. Don't think a 2 hour or 2 1/2 hour long movie with Grossman, I will not be able to handle it LOL.

it's tough for tom to know nobody wants to see him as tom. so now we have this.

i won't watch him in anything. i'm doubly sure of that if stiller's involved.

Tom Cruise in a movie, I could tolerate as long as I borrowed it from the library and did't pay to see it (Actually, Knight and Day doesn't look too bad). However, if that Stiller a$$ is involved, forgetaboutit. He plays the same stupid character over and over and over and over. Can't. Stand. Him. And, he's not all that funny.

I didn't like Tropic Thunder the first time around. Won't be watching this one.

Another vote for "pathetic & desperate". Sad & ill-advised, but really nice of Ben to lend his good name to an unfortunate friend. I love Ben. :)

And LOL at all the "fart faces".

I have to admit, I liked him a tiny little bit during the MTV awards a few days ago.

The Last Samurai, Collateral, MIs are all good movies. I wouldn't like a lot of the Les Grossman either.

The last TC movie I saw was Eyes Wide Shut. Once he started the whole couch jumping thing I totally lost interest. The problem is that his regular life over-powers his movie characters so much that he's no longer believable on screen to me. When you can't believe in the characters, the magic of the movie is gone. I can't see him onscreen or hear him laugh anymore without thinking of that Scientology film of him that got leaked and that maniacal laugh and the salute with that Misgave (sp?) character...
