HONORARY
Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award: Robert De Niro
I SO enjoyed last night's show mostly due to the cringe worthy hilarity of Ricky Gervais. It was pretty clear those in the room thought he was being mean spirited, but I liked that he didn't leave anyone out & didn't kiss anyone's ass.
ReplyDeleteI was kind of surprised to see how well The Social Network did. I liked it a lot but thought The King's Speech was better. At least Colin won. Was sad for Steve Carell that he didn't win, given it's his last season on The Office.
I still can't believe that "Tourist" was nominated. That is just plain stupid. Was it just to have Johnny Depp and Angelina show up was that the whole reason for nominating it under the musical category?
ReplyDeleteI just You Tubed the opening monologue ...FANTASTIC...and I saw De Niro speak...this was the loosest and most relaxed as wall as charming I have ever seen him...nice surprise.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I know Natalie Portman is a Yale grad., so why does she sound so stupid ?
ReplyDelete'the social network' was a snooze fest...i'm all 'WHAT?!' at how well it did.
ReplyDelete@MISCH: Because she's a Harvard grad.
ReplyDeleteGervais was awesome, the only reason I saw the awards was for him and after the opening monologue (which was so true!) he only appeared two or three times. I guess Xenu was pissed!!
ReplyDeleteOk, Glee? I started watching it on vacations and the pilot is my favorite but the second season is just celebrity after celebrity, so I'll take Modern family. Now, Steve Buscemi is a great actor and deserved to win but (imho) Boardwalk empire is not that great.
@MISCH Wasn't it Harvard? I think it was refreshing to see her that much excited, she always seems so serious.
I missed the whole show. :-(
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the awards...I love Gervais!!! He was cracking me up...We never watch award shows, but I love Graham Norton and had to see if Gervais compared...love the British comedians!!
ReplyDeleteWas that really Melissa Leo? Didn't look anything like I remember. She has had a total transformation in the last few years.
ReplyDeleteI am with yall on the GLEE Stuff. Over it. I think for me, that Lea Michelle with her over emoting all.the.flippin.time. Girl, the award was not yours. Be happy. Sit down. And, find someone to get you out of the prom/bridesmaid/debutante dresses because you looked, the pink, girl..just bye.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that Glee won an award and Mad Men did not negates the relevance of this awards ceremony.
ReplyDeleteIt was still really fun to see all those egos kicked around and bitchslapped, though!
Didnt watch it- except for youtubing acceptance speeches and Gervais's awesome monologe-
ReplyDeleteDidnt know that Jim Parsons won for The Big Bang Theory! Yippe!
^I agree, Moosefan.
ReplyDeleteI liked Paul Giamatti's speech. Not only because he proclaimed his love for Montreal, but that he did it while Halle Berry was on stage. HA.
I'm sure I've asked this question before, but why is a movie nominated again when it already went through the Golden Globes?
I used to worship Melissa Leo when she was on Homicide. She got that Oscar nomination two (?) years ago, and now this...I hope she gets the Oscar this year. She is an amazing actress, and really at the top of her game now.
ReplyDeleteI love Amy Adams, but I feel like her really big role is yet to come.
ITA, Moosefan about Lea Michelle. Anybody else notice how she wiggled close to the mike after the win, 'just in case', and of course to be on camera? So obvious. Gag.
ReplyDeleteDid they show her after her castmate won?
Glee winning offended me deeply. This season was pure crap.
ReplyDeleteHOORAY for katey sagal!!!! she's wonderful on SOA, and it's about time that show got some recognition, although this isn't nearly enough.
ReplyDeleteWhat nancer said. Love Katey Sagal and LOVE her whole storyline on SOA. Amazing show.
ReplyDelete@cibele
ReplyDeleteI don't know the entry period for TV shows. So Glee might have won for episodes from last spring not season two.
kay, I have to rant a bit. I just saw The Social Network. Entertaining, yeah, but it was NOT this huge thing that everyone is making it to be...it was a movie of the week, nothing more. Ridiculous how many accolades this is getting...
