New Brad Pitt Movie Booed At Cannes

Terence Malick has always been kind of a no show when it comes to anything public. The problem is this time, Brad Pitt probably could have used him. Shortly after Terence's film, Tree Of Life debuted in Cannes to a mix of boos and applause, Brad was left with the chore of facing cameras and reporters without the director. He defended the director's absence saying that an artist should not have to be salesperson. See, I think that is wrong. They do not have to be. That part I agree with, but if you take Hollywood money to make your art, then I think you have to sell. Can you imagine Brad Pitt telling the world he was not going to promote a movie because he is an artist and not a salesperson?

Anyway, while people did boo, the reviews have generally been a lot of kiss ass reviews because I think every reporter wants to kiss ass the hardest so maybe Terence will give them an interview.

I'm sorry, but Brad is kinda one note to me. Liked him in a few things but I have never been blown away.

I hated the trailer....it looked like a totally depressing experience.

I read someone called it "Nostalgia Porn"

seems to fit pretty well.

Don't most Hollywood contracts require a certain number of personal appearances by the makers of the film, or is it just the stars who are required to show up at events?

An artist who doesn't promote his work is usually a starving artist.

The 80s called, Miami Vice wants it's costume back, Brad!

He's not aging nearly as well as Clooney-do we blame Angie or did Clooney truly make a deal w/the devil? I don't believe in that god/devil shizzle so I'm going to blame Angie. Living with a craycray heroin addict & six kids must be exhausting, no matter how much cash you have...

I saw "The Thin Red Line" and I could feel my arteries calcifying. Mallick's a brilliant director but he needs a strong editor to step in and cut out about 30-45 minutes of mental wanking from most of his movies. "Badlands" was sheer brilliance though. I guess that was before he got caught up in his own genius.

Did the kids take turns dressing Dad? By any stretch of the imagination, there's nothing working from the top of his greasy head to the bottom of his white tennies.

Most of these reporters know Malick will never give them an interview. They're giving him positive reviews because they liked the film. Cannes audiences are always notorious.

The movie's getting a lot of terrific reviews. Malick is not for everyone. I think Brad's a great actor and will probably see this.

They boo frequently at Cannes. Every great director has been booed at Cannes at one point (Lynch, Scorsese.) Brad should have done what Tarantino did in 94' when he won and give the booers the finger.

And I can't wait to see this movie.

LOL@Pookie

Lately Pitt has not really made a good movie. I saw the trailer for this movie it does not appeal to me at all.

I think Brad's got that Southern white trash look going because that's his character in a movie he's making in New Orleans. And I like his outfit! Of course back in the seventies I had a pair of white leather shoes.

What I find amazing is the stretch it will believe that Brad Pitt & Jessica Chastain gave birth to Sean Penn....now that is really a tough one.

@Misch - LOL! Maybe in the movie there's a really ugly milkman...

The Brad Pitt of 15 years ago would have thought anybody who dresses like that to a movie screening (at Cannes of all places) would look like a total douche. Just go and read any interview from him during that period. He was so much more grounded then.

I don't know enough about this director or this story so I'm being more general here but that line that Brad threw out about an 'artist not having to be a salesperson' just sounded so pretentious to me. Is it just me or does the labeling of directors or actors who are basically up their own arses, "artist" just seem pretentious? I'm referring more to the idiots in the industry who misbehave but are labeled genius or artists because they are basically frightened little children who people pander to. That Kevin Bacon movie 'The Big Picture' captures this phenomenon so well.

Malick is supposedly notoriously private.
Still it seems weird to not try and support/sell a movie you made that took that long to make.
