Blind Items Revealed

January 11, 2011

This former A list movie and television actor, recently lost a great deal of weight. Apparently it was not enough though. At a recent party, he sat his still large frame into an antique chair and it promptly collapsed under his weight. Damage? $35,000.

John Goodman

  3. Poor guy :( how embarrassing... He has a good sense of humor though, he probably laughed

  4. Somebody please explain how Kate Winslet is B list and John Goodman is A list. You mean that name of John Goodman could open a movie stronger than the name Kate Winslet. Lucy - You got some 'splainin to do.

  5. I think we pretty much guessed this, but I feel bad for him anyway. An incident like that can make anyone who is larger feel bad.

  6. I would have been beyond mortified! I lost 50lbs recently and I'm still afraid to sit in anything wicker or walk on street grates.

  7. Awwwww :( There's a Roseanne marathon going on right now on Oxygen, he's always been one of my favorite actors. Second what Jax said, poor guy.

  8. One hopes the owner of the chair had a substantial insurance policy. Poor John; that is a rather unkind blind!

  9. Goodman is most certainly A list for television based on the success of Roseanne.
Is the complaining about Ent calling Winslet B list going to go on all day?

  10. @Aly it says former A list.... In his heigh, he was def an A list TV actor. Not so much now

  11. Aly, he said FORMER A-list movie and television. Obviously A-list for Roseanne, but he was in a bunch of movies around Roseanne where he was the only name.

  14. But yeah, I seem to recall we'd all guessed it was Goodman, but were annoyed by how mean spirited this blind was... still not cool.

  15. I'm on the JG wagon here. Unnecessary roughness on this blind. Did we really need to know that he was terribly embarrassed? He's such a great actor.

  16. Antique chairs are often not meant to be occupied. He looks great these days and I LOVE JGoodman. Hope he does another show or film soon. xox

  17. I love John Goodman...ah

  18. In what world is a chair worth $35K?

  19. I feel bad when large people break chairs because chairs break all the time, but they're the only ones who are embarrassed by it. This blind makes me feel awkward.

  20. A list? wtf? Now I know to disregard this clue on future blinds.

  21. Poor John Goodman- I love him! Hopefully he didn't feel too badly- chairs break all the time!

  22. @Sunnyside1213 -

  24. I'm with La Matina. About three years ago, when I was all of 120 pounds, I went into a neighbourhood resto/lounge and sat down at the bar with my friend on these wicker bar stools. The entire stool I was on crumpled to the ground and I sat there on the floor, on my ass. The bartender and hostess came running over to me and acted as if I were DRUNK, wanting to know if I wanted a glass of water and a ride home?? I had JUST arrived and was dead sober...way to try to call attention from the fact that your fucking chair just about broke my neck (or ass). I refused to ever go back.

  25. ^ Sorry, I meant to add: If John is a fairly reasonable weight, there's no reason he should have to pay for the damage. Don't let people sit in the chair if it's not going to support a large body!

  26. Sorry everyone. Always read these blinds wrong. Thinking they are A list for both Film and TV, when both are mentioned. Of course for Roseanne, doubtful for the film part.

  27. I once broke my niece's antique bed just after we had laboriously assembled it! Was I ever embarrassed, and when I was losing weight last year, that memory helped spur me on to my goal!

  28. It doesn't matter how funny or charming a person is, this would be really embarrassing :(

  29. John, we love you!

Wow, that's awful. As a heavy person myself, I would have been motified. JG is such a good actor and he looks great these days. Hopefully, this didn't get him down too much. Stuff happens, and old chairs break anyway.

  31. What world, sunnyside1213? Afraid it's this one. Since i never know the answers to the BIs, i'll throw this factoid in. $28 million for Yves Saint Laurent's dragon chair by Eileen Gray -- Paid at auction 2/25/09. Cunningly designed chair, but how many vaccinations or how much prenatal care would it pay for in a deprived area? No. One big ass gets to sit in it. [And i'm not really a socialist type, and i love beautiful things.]

  32. @sunnyside - That was my thought too.

    Poor John! :(
