Daryl Hannah Gets Arrested

When I saw that Daryl Hannah got arrested, I thought that finally someone had figured out some kind of charge for her making Clan Of The Cave Bear. Turns out though she was protesting oil policies in front of the White House and refused to move so police arrested her. She knew she was going to be arrested and had reporters and television crews waiting. This is not her first arrest and the environment is something she is passionate about at least in public. She says she lives off the grid, but what she says and how she really lives are not exactly the same. She looks great for 50 though so maybe I should look into this lifestyle. How exactly does a compost toilet work again?

  1. IF she lives off the grid, good for her, but I am so tired of celebs telling us how to save the earth while they fly private jets, have multiple homes, cars, etc.

  2. @lanasyogamama, agree!

Amish are off the grid too. You don't see them preaching about it all the time.

  3. I live off the grid every weekend. It's incredibly relaxing. No phones, no computers, no newspapers. Just me, my husband and the loons.

  4. Ew, composting toilets are seriously nasty. My brother and sister in law had one for a while, and I was scared to use the bathroom at their home.

  5. I recycle and do all I can for the planet and to save energy. But, a flushing toilet is a must.

  6. @lanasyogamama -- completely agreed. Leo, Bono, and Angelina can all shut their jetsetting, entitled, multimillionaire pieholes, as far as I'm concerned.

    @errant -- I'm jealous. I miss loons.

  7. I don't know why, but it struck me that she appears to be wearing leather boots. I'm not sayin it is wrong, I'm not sayin it is right. But.....well....she kinda seems like the vegan type. no? Must be faux leather. Which are awesome looking btw.

Depending on who you talk to, recycling may not be as "good" for the environment as we've been lead to believe.

  9. Darryl looks awesome for any age. She's has the time and the money to maintain herself. Good for her, she has earned it.

    That being said, several points:

She says she lives "off the grid" but then how did she get to Washington DC for this highly publicized arrest? Did she walk? Ride a polar bear? What?

Also, she's protesting Canadian oil. Some people (environmental lobby) don't like the way oil is extracted (from sand) in Canada. But if we don't get oil from Canada, we'll just go right on buying it from places like Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, Nigeria, Iran, and the Sudan, where extraction is just as messy and comes with a side of unfortunate foreign diplomatic consequences. There is no perfect oil extraction. The world economy, our economy, runs on oil. Does she in any way acknowledge this reality?

  10. I think she looks good...at least she's corrected that gawd-awful plastic surgery she previously had, or at least it's died down.

  11. Her lips are horrible and she's almost unrecognizable. She reminds me of that comedian, Jennifer something who was the masseuse on Seinfeld that wouldn't give Jerry a massage.

Anyways, the whole thing looks like a photo op to me. She's striking a pose while being cuffed.

  12. I thought composting toilets worked just like out houses regarding waste? And that had nothing to do with "flushing", right?? More celebs should get arrested standing up for the rest of us. Politicians certainly aren't helping anyone but themselves. Many people just can't afford to get arrested for any cause. Doesn't really mean we're not passionate, just practical.

Annelle Dupuy Desoto needs to sit down.

    I like her boots, though.

  15. ugh, do not get me started on composting toilets. So gross. There are some indoor composting systems that are fairly sanitary and low odor (and not completely disgusting) but when you come home to find your roommates have just put a bucket in your bathroom to poop in, you have no choice but to move out immediately.

    True story.

  16. A Big Momma .... I have those same boots in black. They are 100% leather and they are awesome!

  17. So Daryl Hannah gets arrested for fighting for a cause she is passionate about and believes in, in an attempt to try to protect and save the environment from a possible gas leaks/explosions, not harming a single soul. Freedom of speech if you ask me. Then you have Matthew Fox who gets wasted, punches out a woman several times and gets escorted home in a cab to sleep it off. What is wrong with this world?

  18. Wasn't this the answer to a blind item? Wasn't there an item about someone who publicly is all about the environment, but not so much in private.

  19. @Amartel, it's not about simply 'extracting' oil from oh-Canada; we're talking about a 900,000 barrel equivalent crude oil pipeline running from Canada to the Gulf Coast in Texas.

But that must be ok cuz it'll create jobs. And you know, what with BP and all the continuous eco-hell we collectively unleash on the earth, lets not bother ourselves with a 'Canada' issue right?

  20. @Mirande ewww!

I clicked on this to see if I could find out about composting toilets. Information I could have lived without.

  21. CLAN OF THE CAVE BEAR WAS AWESOME!!!

I also watched "Splash" just the other night; it, too, is awesome.

I don't know much about Daryl Hannah but I can tell you that at our cabin, we have a composting toilet. Sure, it's better for the environment but to be honest, I'd rather poop in the woods than use that thing *shudder*.

  22. Go Daryl. Anyone trying to make this world a better place gets a high five from me.

And consider me 100% against the Albertan Tar Sands. They're a nightmare.

  23. I would not mind being arrested by THAT police officer! He is wayyyyy hotttt!

My kids still live at home.

Good for Daryl. She's obviously passionate and that's what really creates happiness.

  25. Good for her, putting her money where her mouth is. Could you see Lindsey Lohan doing something like this? The only thing she's passionate about is vice.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Where the hell can I get a pair of those bad-ass leather boots? Phine phootwear!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I don't have a problem with this at all....as long as she knows what the hell she's talking about and fighting for.

(Unlike Jessica Alba the time she defaced the United Way Billboards)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yeah, I dont get why anyone would be opposed to her putting her money where her mouth is (so to speak) and protesting something she obviously feels passionate about.
Anybody can write a check or mouth off to the media that they are good people *coughParisHilton*cough but its definitely cool to see her in the trenches doing something she believes in.
And the fact that its about the enviornment is all to the good as far as I'm concerned. By the way, am not convinced her shoes are 'real' leather. Nowadays there is really really good faux leather and synthetic shit out there at specialty vegan stores.

btw- to the blogger than dropped the delusional bomb about recycling being bad for the planet...uhhhh. I'd ask for you to elaborate but Im sure all your 'facts' came from a coloring book and I dont think crayon works when posting on this website. But thanks for that 'imput'

    ReplyDelete
  29. Are you serious with that crayon remark? I don't even need to say anything to some you because you do a great job of making yourselves look dumb.

    Here you go, Professor:

  30. "While recycling is usually a smart choice, the smartest choice is reducing -- cutting down on packaging, goods in general, and ensuring things last as long as possible and are reused whenever possible is the best way to make recycling really count."
    -- Jaymi Heimbuch

One of three people on that page who acknowledge how it's far better to conserve and reuse than it is to recycle -- particularly when it comes to electronics -- but NOWHERE on that page does it say that recycling is some fruitless endeavor.

And Jasmine, Daryl could have purchased those boots at Goodwill or some other secondhand store (which would be a perfect example of reusing). That was my first thought, personally. Knowing D, it's possible -- homegirl really DOES walk the walk, which is rare.

  31. Great.

When I say that recycling is "bad" or "fruitless" I'll let you know, until then perhaps actually reading someone's comment instead of just making it up as you go along would be super.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Really, you should only recycle if you want to. This is still America, right?

I heard that the best thing to recycle is newspaper because they can grind it up and make toilet paper out of it. I don't read newspapers, but I make sure to buy a couple every week just so I can recycle them. :)

  33. read a celeb piece years ago, kind of like this site w/ info, but a one time deal. it said Daryl Hannah was "the stupidest person with a SAG card. Possibly borderline retarded”.

    ReplyDelete
  34. meh, I'd give that award out to Heather Graham before I would to Darryl Hannah.

Heard WAY more things about her lack of smarts between the ears.

Though, if you think about it, you always end up seeing/hearing about female celebs who are supposedly 'stupid' and not really men ever. So in both Heather and Darryl's case, I'd hesitate to bad mouth their intellect because it could just be another way to hold the sistas down, ya know?
