Canada Says No To Russell Brand Or Did They?

Russell Brand's 12 arrests ranging from battery to drugs had him deported from Japan earlier this year and now Canada wants no part of him. At least that is what he said originally. Scheduled to perform on Saturday night, the comedian Tweeted that he was not going to be allowed in the country while flying to the show. He was scheduled to perform in front of 5,000 people in Orillia, but the show had to be postponed. You know, you would think someone would check on all of this prior to selling tickets and actually getting on the plane to come to Canada.

Russell Brand blamed it all on Canada, but now, a spokesperson for the casino where Brand was scheduled to perform says it was a mechanical issue on the airplane and had nothing to do with customs. No word has been heard from Russell about it all, just the casino. Immigration or plane issue? It seems like an odd prank.

  2. I'm going with prank. I used to work at the airport for immigration and celebrities can easily apply for (and are usually granted) a record of exemption to perform here if they have a criminal record. If their agents/managers are too stupid to apply for the exemption before they arrive, yeah...there might be a hold up. And if they're really being jerks, they might even be refused entry. But in a case where tickets are already sold and the officer knows very well the person's not going to try to STAY, exemption will be granted. Nice try, Brand. (Also, why didn't you come to Vancouver?? I would like to see you live!)

  5. Love the Canadians and Canada. The most gracious hosts ever!

Me thinks Brand's people did not do their work properly, and are blaming Canada for it.

  6. Oh its a line from How I Met Your Mother, hence the quotes. I actually like Canada very much. At least the eastern side. Never been to the west.

  7. Enty needs to do his homework! Brand has already stated that the no entry was a prank - and that the airplane really had mechanical troubles.

  8. Holy Hannah, he was doing a show at the casino in Orillia? LOL That's really scraping the bottom of the barrel (no offence Orillia) but Russell couldn't get a gig anywhere else in Canada other than in Orillia???????

  9. @Black Cat ... Casino Rama is one of the biggest & best casino's in Canada. It draws very big names & NO they are not scraping the bottom of the barrel when they preform there. You should see the multi-million dollar theatre that they built for performers. I have attended many events there & have to say it is a beautiful place.

It should be: "It's not even a real county anyway." From "Blame Canada" from the South Park movie. And to anyone who's never listened to the words, the song is not anti-Canada; it points out how parents in the U.S. are quick to blame anyone or anything, other than themselves, for how their children behave.

  15. Not a big fan of Russell Brand. I don't think he's funny. He's more toilet humor.

  16. @iheartjacksparrow - lol, I'll be honest, I'm not that familiar with the South Park movie. Haven't seen in it at least 10 years. But I do vaguely remember that. Barney Stinson's rant just came to mind first.

  19. Is that from the HIMYM episode where Ted took Robin to the Minnesota bar because she was homesick for Canada? That was hysterical!

  20. The "mechanical issue" was that they realized enroute that they had too many drugs and paraphernalia to get past even the limited customs inspection they would face. Thus, about face.
