Get Your Harry Potter Quickly

Warner Brothers is pulling the old Disney trick where they pull titles from shelves. It is a marketing trick to drum up business for titles, but all it does is encourage people to get the titles in other ways or to buy them used. Back in the day when Disney would only have certain animated titles in release it worked well because there were not a lot of options or alternatives for customers who wanted their child to have Snow White. You bought it when it came out once every three years or waited until the next cycle.

Warner Brothers announced it is pulling all Harry Potter titles from shelves beginning December 29 and have not said when it will return to stores, if at all. Obviously they want everyone to go out and buy every copy and will probably release something next Christmas or maybe even the year after with bonuses and extras that will make you feel like you got ripped off if you buy it this year.

  1. As Harry Cohn of Columbia Pictures said: "This isn't a business, it's a racket!"

  2. Meh. I stopped buying dvds about the time I got netflix instant stream. They take up too much space anyway.

  3. Me too Lauren. Used to love buying them, but there are way too many ways to catch a flick what with premium channels and pay per view, renting and netflix.

  4. Meh. I'll just check it out from the library for free.

  5. I hate this. Christmas & Hanukkah is just the parents and other fans have the time to by an extra present set of 8 movies if they don't have them already so they can enjoy before they're gone forever!

Piracy is bad, but why do I feel ok about once awhile? See above.

I usually rent HP movies on itunes, anyone know how this will effect this?

  6. I'm sure eBay or Amazon will have them used, but if I want to watch the ones I don't own, I'll just rent them and they most certainly will come around again. I think this trick was how I ended up with 2 copies of The Lion King.

OT: I got to go to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter last weekend and it was awesome!

  7. I saw this story yesterday and the hardcore HP fans are pretty angry at WB anyway, so this just made it worse. Apparently, the 8 film package that WB is releasing for Christmas is just the films, no extras at all. A lot of them already have the individual discs so they are trying to drum up a boycott since they all believe that WB will release a better package for Christmas next year. What a joke.

  10. @Jasmine - I thought it was really well done! I think they could have gone bigger with it, but I guess maybe they had to test it out to see how it would do? There are only 3 rides and a lot of the store fronts in Hogwarts are fake BUT it is still really cool. The castle replication was the best. Even though you are waiting in line over an hour, there is lots to take in. I felt like such a kid! :)

  11. Also, I haven't heard about the Angry Birds thing??!! Crazy! My girlfriend lives in FL & she said the talk now is Disney making an Avatar type park. I still prefer Universal over Disney, anyday.
