Verizon Says People In New Jersey Are Going To Die

Verizon Wireless sent out a mass text to people in New Jersey yesterday saying they were in extreme danger, could lose their life and should do something about it right away. They also said the text was from the US Government. Considering that for many New Jersey residents, 9/11 struck very close to home, it probably scared them a little. Actually a lot. Have you ever received a text like the one pictured above? I haven't. If you notice it also says nothing on the text about it being a test. What do you do if you get a text like this? It says to take shelter, but from what? What would you do if you got a text like the one above and it was real? I guess turn on the television or radio. What would we ever do if we did not have someone on television or radio giving us advice on what we should do? Verizon says it is sorry.

Oh Great. And I just moved to NJ.

If the tv and radio aren't giving advice, follow your Zombie Attack Protocol. Go to your safe place that has a food and weapons stockpile, and wait it out.

And Verizon does not look good here.

I knew moving to Jersey was a huge mistake. I kinda had a feeling NJ was a zombie breeding ground.

Oh Great, after reading this message, knows that my day just went into the shitter. Why, you ask, because my mother (in NJ) just freaked out over that message.

As soon as I saw it was from US Government I would know it is only a joke. Still, I would grab my gun and a bottle of booze to wait it out!

The headline is not accurate - the text doesn't say people are going to die. Just to take shelter immediately.

Shame, shame, shame on Verizon for not labeling this as a test, and for not immediately sending out a text saying "please ignore". There was no reason for this test message to actually be sent so poorly labeled in the first place. And shouldn't they have publicized itin advance that they were sending out a test message to test their system?

My parents just left Jersey last month, so I can't wait to see what my conspiracy theory lovin' mama says about this one.

I'm hearing that cell phones are going to be equipped (or already are) with an override chip that can disable them except for governmental communication in case of a national emergency, authentic or otherwise. Maybe this is a test to gauge customer response to just such an alert; Verizon can always say "Oops! Sorry, folks!" later, while assessing the response, if any.

Didn't get this message and I'm in NJ and have Verizon.

Yeah, right. Like the government would actually alert people if something was happening. The military would just start shooting.

Danielle - me too! NJ resident, Verizon customer, and no message!

Zombies are only breed in the Pine Barrens.

Isnt this part of a system where the government wants to be able to send messages to all phones within a certain geographical area? Good idea, but should not be tested like this

If it was a good system then this would be a good idea, but I'm guessing they created a huge panic. They should also have some code or identify if it is a terrorist attack or a massive tsunami.

Oh this is definitely the stuff of conspiracy theorists -- the expiration on it isn't until 1/12/2012.

Take shelter in a place? WTH is that? Do they mean underground? In a shelter? What are we responding against? Terrorists? Aliens?Zombies? Killer Toy Poodles?

Determined to have occurred or ongoing. The threat is that our govt. has lost it's collective mind.It certainly is ongoing.

I have a giant squirt gun for when the killer toy pudles come for us.
