RIP. :*(
I seem to recall some gossip about him being an asshole? Or wait, I think he was interviewed in one of Michael Moore's films, ...
Good bye. :( I remember a documentary about a set of adult twins (female) who had very intense, idiosyncratic special needs. One of their obsessions was Dick Clark.
Someone arranged for the sisters to meet him, and he was very kind to them, even though his health was already declining.
He seemed like a decent person.
I live in the UK so never caught his shows, but always known him to be a likeable fellow.
Too much of my youth is going away lately. The news on Robin Gibb late last week, finding out yesterday that Levon Helm is in the final stage of his cancer battle, and now Dick Clark, who I've watched on television for 45 years. It's hard to grasp.
Very sad to read about this.
Bless him
New Years won't be Rockin without him
Bummer!! another big part of my childhood!! On Satudays we would help my mom clean the house, then watch Bandstand and the Soul Train right afterwards. Wow.
RIP Mr. Clark. I learned all the latest dance steps from Bandstand.
Sad week.
msgirl, I heard some bad things about him too, when he would produce shows, what a jerk he was - however, I still loved him to pieces. He was a staple of my NYE since I was a child. Even though he had a stroke and only had cameos the past few years, I would TiVo/dvr the show, just for him. NYE won't be the same anymore!
RIP Mr. Clark. I wasn't into Bandstand much, but I was a faithful devotee of The $25,000 Pyramid.
Syko - Hadn't heard about Levon Helm - man, this has not been a good week for my childhood!
Sometimes it really sucks to get old!
RIP, Mr. Clark. I can't remember a time when you weren't on TV in some way.
I'm so sad! I faithfully watched his NYE broadcast every year. I vividly remember playing with all my Barbies and watching the ball drop with him. Seeing him in Times Square on NYE was on my bucket list but I never made it out there before his health really started declining.
RIP Mr. Clark! You will be missed!
@Syko - I hear you. I'm still bummed about the inevitable with Robin Gibb. Sorry that Dick Clark had to suffer for so long. I've heard the rumors, too, but also recall how nice he was to the conjoined twins (I think) so I will remember that today.
NY Rockin' Eve was part of my childhood, until I was old enough to go out and celebrate. Now I watch it with the short one on New Year's, and recently it's bummed me out to see him since his stroke. This is sad. RIP Dick, will miss you!
Thank you, enty, for posting this despite you having already finished your day with the Random Photo posts. First time I can recall that a regular story has followed RP's, but for Dick Clark it's appropriate.
I lost all respect for him after seeing him in Bowling for Columbine. He was also rather pompous on Pyramid, but I used to like him on Bandstand. RIP.
Some of my earliest childhood memories are of going to the grocer next door with a quarter from my mom and a penny for tax. Getting candy and going home and watching American Bandstand with my siblings. Eventually dancing around the living room high on sugar. RIP Mr. Clark, you were a neat guy.
Oh no! Wow, this has been a hard week or so --Mike Wallace and now Dick Clark.....such a part of my childhood. I admire how he kept doing his New Years show even after his stroke. RIP Dick....godspeed.
With regard to Robin Gibb I was totally spooked and put into such a mood with last night's Glee which was all about Saturday Night Fever songs--made me think of him.
On one trip to NYC, the Mum and I had to have a cheeseburger at P.J. Clarke's 'cuz that's where Dick and Carrie went after every ball drop.
Growing up, my Saturdays were all about the Bandstand and Soul Train too. I loved Bandstand and danced around the living room with the Mum saying "Turn that down!"
I don't know if he was the nicest guy IRL and wasn't he in trouble for payola, but he was still a part of my youth. Honestly, I'm glad he made it to his 40th anniversary this past NYE and I hoped he was planning to hang it up after this year. I guess that's a done deal now.
Good-bye to our oldest teenager.
@Agent**It, so sorry for your loss. Did they catch the murderer?
Yeah, Syko, Robin Gibb, Levon Helm, and Dick Clark...not a good week. :-(
NYE just won't be the same. Loved watching $25,000. He will be missed.
Remember him best for News Years Eve. It won't be the same without him. Loved his Hollywood Blooper shows. He wil be missed. Ryan Seacrest is not worthy to stand in his shadow.
That was Saturday at our house, too. :)
RIP, DC.
RIP Dick Clark. I always thought it was cool that he had a Flintstone's house.

Im not the only one who found listening to him struggle on NYE painful. Im glad he found peace.
Agent**It, that is horrible, I'm so sorry!
So sad about Dick Clark. He seemed like a very nice, decent person in an industry where those qualities are very rare.
Godspeed Mr. Clark. New Year's won't be the same without you. :=(.
Agent**It, I like the story of your sister covering her eyes and running by the TV during Lent. A very warm and sweet memory you have of her.
"It's got a good beat, and you can dance to it."
RIP to America's Oldest Teenager.
Agent**It: So sad to hear about your sister being murdered. I would suppose that is something you never get over.
Like many others, it was Bandstand and then Soul Train. That was always the best. He never seemed to age and when he did he stepped aside but he will be missed.
I remember my mom reminiscing about him and "American Bandstand", and I watched more than a few episodes on a Saturday morning (after the cartoons were all spent, of course), myself. RIP, Dick. You were an Icon to a few generations. New Year's just won't be the same. :(
@Agent**t - I'm so sorry. That must be painful for you. *HUGS* to you, dear soul.
R.I.P. Dick. Thanks for the memories.....
I second that seachica! Great move enty! Thanks for the addition!
Agent**it, sorry for your loss, but what a great memory when you think of Dick Clark!!
I was more of a Dance Party USA after cartoons kinda gal, but I loved Pyramid!
Agent, so sorry about your sister, but I love that memory. Sounds like something I would have done. :)
What a career, RIP, Rock will never be the same.
RIP Dick. I loved Bandstand and Pryamid in the 80's as a kid.
Always watched him on NYE too. You will be missed!
So sorry for you loss @Agent. Loved your sweet memory.
I think Seacrest will be a fine host for NYE personally.
RIP Penis Clark
