Girl Scout Leader Steals Cookie Money From Her Troop

The profits from the sale of 4500 boxes of cookies disappeared as quickly as Girl Scout leader Ana Juarez could collect it from her troop. Police in El Monte, California arrested Ana after it was discovered she blew through about $6K in money from the sale of Girl Scout cookies. She spent it on gas, manicures, shopping and Victoria's Secret. Each member of the troop sold 500 boxes in one month which means the troop sold 4500 boxes total.

That;s pretty low.

Also; 500 boxes each!
I hope my two girls don't want to join the Girl Scouts.

She is due in court May 8, it has been in all the papers for over a week.Suarez also had a 6-year-old daughter in the troop.

As the mom of a cookie-selling Brownie, I'm beyond disgusted. Also, Girl Scouts need to start allowing checks and credit cards as payment. It's stupid to have to pay in cash (in our case, almost $600) and hope that the Cookie Mom doesn't misapply the payment or, as in this case, steal the money.

A few years ago the treasurer of our boy scout troop helped herself to nearly $2k of the Scouts money. She paid it back and was given probation.

Why do people think this is OK?

my mistake, she took over $7200 from our troop.

The most disgusting part of this, in addition to her stealing, is that she used the money for such mundane shit. Oh, and that her own daughter is in the troop. Hey karma, have some fun with this stupid ass trick.

She should have spent the money on making cookies with real ingredients.

Those poor girls in that troop.

Like Nolachickee said.. Karma have fun with this stoopid ass trick!

Wow, there's a special place in hell for those people.

She looks tacky as hell so of course she spent it on nonsense like manicures (because you know her nails are those big, thick white fake ones), dying her hair black and over-waxing her eyebrows.

What....the....fuck. I hope she gets a blanket party in prison.

Maybe the world IS ending soon?

What did she think would happen? Would love to know the thought process behind this, because I do NOT understand how someone could do such a thing.

I have always thought Victoria's Secret as a brand to be a little overblown and skanky. This just confirms it.

Em, it most likely when thusly:

"Like, ohmygawd, I NEEEEED a manicure if I'm goin out to the club tonight!"

I was actually accused of this once. I was a Camp Fire leader (poorer second cousin to the Girl Scouts) and they sell candy, not cookies. And they don't take orders and collect when they deliver, they pile all that damn candy on the leader, who hands it out to the girls to take with them to sell and hopefully bring the money back.

I had one little girl who ate all the candy she was given. The district office was suspicious that I might have kept the money, and I had to get the girl's parents to take her to the office and confess to them. They didn't press charges, but they still gave me the side-eye and didn't let our group have the money we'd earned, to make up for the loss. I think she ate about 40 boxes. Needless to say, I resigned and only stuck around until they found a new leader.

Wow, what a little pig. I'm impressed the parents didn't blame you.

My best friend from college was the 'cookie-mom' for her daughter's girl scout troop this year. One mother just never turned in her money at all, so in addition to all the work my friend went through distributing the cookies and tracking the sales, she had to make a report on the bad mom who seemingly kept all the funds from her daughter's cookie sales.

How does such a mother live with herself, not to mention her child(ren)?

Monica - "Remember when dad bought all the Girl Scout cookies and I had to eat them?"

Ross - "No. Dad HAD to buy all the Girl Scout cookies BECAUSE you ate them.

Gas, manicures, shopping...sounds like another American obsessed with celebrity culture. This is why everyone watches crap reality tv and wants to be famous. They too want to do nothing all day, and have people make a fuss over them when they're out doing mundane sh*t.

little girls don't eat 40 boxes of cookie because their lives are filled with sunshine and rainbows, Vicki.

This happens more often that you'd think. There are background checks and insurance in place but it still stinks for the troop, especially the daughter who has to live with her mom's crappy actions.

This kinda reminds of that movie "Bad Teacher" where Cameron Diaz's character wants to keep the car wash money for her boob job.

And, what Jax said.

Sucks for the little girl. I hope the other kids don't blame her, that would be double awful.

Yes exactly Em..What do these people think is going to happen? Nothing? They were going to be caught sooner or later. Just idiotic.

There's absolutely NO question that this is all kinds of wrong, but how stupid do you have to be to think they wouldn't notice?

I wonder what kind of sentence she will get for this, since it's considered grand theft. I don't know California law

People like me buy those cookes against our better judgement, eat them, gain 10 pounds, and she uses the money to buy frilly, skinny stuff at Victoria's Secret? BITCH! That's a slap in the face, LOL.

Sadly my troop leaders (my best friends parents) stole our money too. It sucked and we didn't even have enough money to buy patches. Needless to say I dropped out of girl scouts immediately after that. I hate people sometimes.

I don't know how these people live with themselves.
I had a friend who used to collect raffle prizes for a charity group we belong to. She would keep half of whatever she collected for herself. People are disgusting.

Did she think no one would notice? What a dumbass!

in december i was approached by the cutest little GS in uniform, it's was right after xmas, and the troop was doing some sort of push drive in my area. i got suckered, and pre-ordered several boxes. paid cash. info was exchanged, and i even got a receipt. by feb. i checked in w/ the little GS'S mom, who denied ever selling me the cookies. i was blown away that i'd get ripped off like that. it really does make the organization look bad, and the particular troop needs to look at the parenting some of their kids are getting. lesson learned tho...will never pre-pay again. boo hiss. talk about leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

I am a Cookie Mom for our troop. This was the 1st year for me, and it was hard work, believe me.
I can't believe this lady..!
Our Service Unit Cookie Mgr (SUCM- that makes me giggle, is that bad?) kept tabs of our deposits and was after all of her troops to make atleast weekly deposits.

@Syko- we were given receipt booklets for all of the cookies we gave other moms of the troop, and if they gave me $, I would give them a receipt in acknowledgement. They didn't have to pay me in order to get cookies, I just had them sign the receipt. These moms seem nice but I don't want to be held responsible for them not paying.

@ Pookie- we were told that we were not supposed to collect money on those prepaids unless the customer insists. In no way were we supposed to make the customers think that was required.
