Let's Talk About John Travolta

I think it was about a month ago that I wrote about John Travolta and Kelly Preston being separated and you just know there has to be a lot of pressure on a relationship when you cannot be truly honest with yourselves and the world. This pressure just has to always be there bubbling, right under the surface. How many blind items have there been about John Travolta and male masseurs? There must be five or six, and there could be more, but how many times can you write the same thing? Yesterday, TMZ reported that one of those masseurs was suing John Travolta and somehow that masseur will probably now be paid off and John will go deeper and deeper into some shell life that Scientology has constructed for him. If the suit were allowed to continue then there would be depositions and questions and more questions that all would need an answer under oath. I think all of us would welcome those answers. Not about John's sexuality, because that is his own business, but there would be so many other questions that involve his marriage and his church that would be fascinating and I think newsworthy.

I actually feel sorry for the man, he seems to be trapped by his own life. It's a shame.

Jessi said...

@ hunter totally agree. Feel bad for the guy. He really seems like he is a nice, sweet man and I wish he could be who he is and be happy.

luckylass said...

Part of me feels sorry for him and yet I can't help but feel as if he sold his soul to Scientology for the sake of his career. That being said, he is pretty harmless (unless you are a male massuese). At least he doesn't pontificate like Cruise.

What's done in the dark always comes to light....

mikey said...

I'd like to feel sorry for him, but I can't. He choose to live his life this way. He may be trapped now, but he got himself in this position.

Until I see a picture of him gobbling cock, I don't care.

..." there would be so many other questions that involve his marriage and his church that would be fascinating and I think newsworthy"....

How on earth do you get that this John Doe law suit (which will never see the light of day) would legally require depositions regarding Scientology?

What is the real subject you want us to discuss, Co$? That's fine, you have "learned" commenters here (not me, I learn from them) that can discuss this subject.

ps: I still have my Welcome Back Cotter lunch box and thermos:)

Meh - I think a lot of people have known he was gay since the '80's. Big deal. I wish he'd come out for his sake, though. It's worse to have these snide blind items where everyone knows it's you than to just be open about it, isn't it? I think people might respect and even like him more.

I think Scientology is horrible - they prey on vulnerable people, RICH vulnerable people. They got their claws into Tom and John at a time when their coming out of the closet would've decimated their careers. Well done, you blood sucking cult.

Elizabeth said...

I'm sure this will never go to trial because after the 20th testimony from a masseuse, the jury would just laugh when he denied it. But he's done this so many times, whether consciously or unconsciously, I think he wants to come out. If Scientology is the problem, he should leave Xenu.

Sadie said...

Society forces Hollywood stars to stay "in the closet" or else risk making no money at whatever movie, TV show, etc. they are a part of. There is one exception I can think of...NPH.

Had Travolta come out of the closet years ago he would not have made anywhere near the $$ he has.

Its a shame, but its what happens.

Travolta is old news - if he came out now, I don't see how it would hurt his career - on top of which he most likely has enough money to live comfortably for the rest of his life - and wouldn't need to work anymore.

Cecilia00 said...

Travolta is a likeable person. He has a lot of powerful people on his side that would make sure he continues working as well as has a platform to explain things to the American public if he officially outs himself. Oprah, for instance, would give him as much time as he needed on her network.

Did I once read that it is Kelly Preston who is the Scientology robot and his biggest fear is them seekin revenge by her taking the kids from him?

fedwaymom said...

Oh man that cracked me up, not the image I needed in my brain !!!!

M said...

If you all haven't, the full complaint is on TMZ. It's quite entertaining.

Cindy said...

@Agent**it -- your lunchbox might be a fake, since the title of the show was Welcome Back, Kotter ;-)

Now! said...

Travolta is at the point in his career where there will not be all that many more starring roles, and certainly not sex symbol roles. He's best suited for character roles and parts that focus on the aging process, like Jack Nicholsen in "About Schmidt."

Not A Ninny said...

Big John should avoid getting papped in a fisting sling if he wants to maintain his hetero pretense.

Ms Cool said...

I feel pretty bad for him. I posted something about this in the comments yesterday and then I regretted doing so.

I don't care if he is gay. I know that most of us have known it but I think there is a huge population of people who haven't - read the comments on some of the tamer gossip sites (People, e.g.). I wish he could live the life he really wants.

I feel worse for him as I can't help but think that someone who has lost a child like they did deserves some extra understanding and consideration in life.

Let's not forget that he was kind of a joke for a decade or so before he had a comeback in Pulp Fiction. He does seem like a pretty nice guy. I hope the best for him and feel bad for him in this situation.

Jennifer H. said...

John Travolta should have enough money that he doesn't have to worry. He could live his life true to himself if he wanted to. For that reason, I mostly don't feel sorry for him. The difficulty he might have with family, friends, and whatever crap the COS might pull does give me a little sympathy for him.

Patty said...

"...but there would be so many other questions that involve his marriage and his church that would be fascinating and I think newsworthy.

Um, his marriage is just as much "his own business" as is his sexuality.

Don't feel sorry for the celebrities being "taken advantage of" by CoS.

These guys are WELL-pampered by the cult, which is why people like Cruise go out of their way to promote them.

They are treated like kings and will do whatever they need to do to keep their place with the Clearwater Mob.

I doubt the bigger-name celebrities even give that much to Sea Org out of their own pockets since they are worth so much more as cheerleaders to the group.

It's hard to put a price tag on how many cultists joined because they liked Mission Impossible and the Simpsons.

Marisa said...

I think Enty was alluding to the marriage arrangement...John isn't the only one with secrets

billybob said...

I don’t know what’s worse.....that a man is afraid for whatever reason to come out or the leeches who try and make money off of him. John’s got more than enough on his plate, leave him alone.

Robin the Mad Photographer said...

I think @Cecilia's got it--he probably doesn't give a rat's ass about himself at this point, and probably has enough money to live well, but I've always had the sense that he loves his children very much, and the thought of losing them is what keeps him in line. (At the risk of being cynical, that was probably why the youngest one was conceived in the first place, if it's true Kelly is the real Co$bot in the relationship. As long as there's a young child around, he'll be stuck.)

anita_mark said...

@Agent, I think Cindy was just teasing you about your misspelling of "Kotter" (you spelled it with a K). Nice teasing :)

As a straight person, I have no idea the emotions or thoughts or fears that a homosexual person has so I'm not even going to weigh in on how he feels.

anita_mark said...

Sorry, I should add, I have no idea the fears they have about coming out.

Geebz said...

I don't feel sorry for him. He is rich. He is a pawn of the COS. He attacked and harassed this masseur. If it was a female masseur, would it be different?
This is perverse and unacceptable. Deal with your issues and don't make others suffer for it.

M said...

I have no sympathy. If he's gay, that's his deal, but the second he attacks another person, it's everyone else's business. Not okay.

Not A Ninny said...

Not "one big (gay) orgy." More like 99.9% depressed, harassed, chain-smoking and very broke people with almost no sex lives yet horribly over-inflated egos.

Seachica said...

@MyMamasChild - not one big orgy. The correlation is there because being gay in Hollywood makes you vulnerable. If you aren't secure in your true sexuality, or are afraid that your secret will come out and hurt your career, you're more vulnerable to things like CoS.

Agent**It said...

Anita- but she was right! Mine is a fake, LOL

Unknown said...

Mama the correlation is this - you have people who cannot accept who they are so they turn to sceintology who uses e-meters to purge them of the greem gobs of xemu stuck to them. You do this by admitting all your failings. This clears your mind and cures you. It also give $cientology a big fat file on you. So you never leave.
Now as to John, he must want to come out our be caught. He wants it done for him. I know so many people with half his money who can get kept men who keep their mouths shut. John is either a sex addict or like I said crying to be outed. You don't be that stupid when you have that much money. I know a guy who is kept by an executive of a very large cosmetics corp. He lives rent free in a great weho townhome drives a 100K BMW and his only job is to work out, look good and be avail for his sugar daddy 24/7..all he as to do is call and my buddy goes a running. He would not eff up that set up for anything and has signed a confidentiality agreement. It is not that hard...so ole Johnny is either dumb or trying real hard to be caught.

Rose said...

Scientology records all their auditing sessions and blackmails the celebs with their juicy secrets if they try to leave Scientology. For people who don't want to be outed, it's big incentive.

lisa said...

This guy's lawsuit is missing some information. He claims Travolta had "direct contact" with his scrotum and shaft of his penis, but he never mentions getting undressed.
He was either playing along for the $ from the start, (he ignored Travolta allegedly pulling the drape from his ass 80 times in an hour), or it's all outright bullshit.

Flagrant misuse of our justice system if you ask me.

Steppy said...

I watched Travolta all my life, aside from Kotter, there was Grease and Saturday Night Fever. He was the coolest guy around, way before Pulp Fiction. Give this guy the respect and privacy he deserves. And, he's lost a child! Leave the poor guy alone.

Kelly Simmons said...

I guess I'm an idiot. Are there legit masseurs advertising on Craigslist?

Barton Fink said...

I find some of the claims to be suspect. It reads like a laundry list of allegations. Travolta as a bisexual three-way participant? Travolta unable to actually find a hustler or hookup on Craigslist, which is literally swimming with hookers and hustlers and hobags? C'mon. I'm not saying he ain't gay, I'm just saying this whole thing doesn't pass the smell test.

Char said...

Um, my 65 year old parents know NOTHING about celebrities, read no gossip, online or otherwise, and the only tv they watch is the news. And even they know John Travolta is gay. I've never had a conversation with anyone about him that wasn't aware. People are shocked when I tell them about other celebs, but never about him.

cheesegrater15 said...

Hunter, he's trapped in $cientology. They've taken his life.

The masseur is going to wind up dead. Just like that other guy that tried to sue him.

Char said...

It's not an orgy but it is a hiding place. They will set you up with a fake life and keep your secrets, as long as you give them money.

This is sad --that someone his age and at his place in life has to live like that--he is such a talented person and seems like a really decent human being. I know nothing about COS or his marriage but I've loved John as an actor all his career.

I think things have changed for a lot of the public and people don't care as much about people's personal lives if they are talented. I wish he felt he could live the way he feels and not put himself into the position of being vulnerable to these kind of legal issues because he is hiding things.

CarolMR said...

How do we know what his sexuality is? What about his torrid affair with Marilu Henner which she wrote quite a lot about in her autobiography many years ago?

Okay - here's the deal. Scientology is incredibly homophobic. They see it as a mental illness. Since they think they can 'cure' mental illness, no doubt, they've suckered a lot of people into joining to be 'cured'. Particularly back in the day when Travolta and Cruise were young actors.

L. Ron Hubbard's son was gay, and apparently committed suicide over it.

If either Travolta or Cruise admit that Scientology didn't 'cure' them of homosexuality, then they'll have to admit they've been wrong for 30 years. And who know what other dirt the church has on them by now.

I never did understand the homophobia of the church. This is a religion that claims to believe in reincarnation and the transmigration of souls into the bodies of males, females, even animals and inanimate objects. I can only assume that Hubbards turn of the century 'ick-factor' won out over common sense.

I have a friend, a former child actor, who's lived in Brentwood his whole life and I remember him telling me over ten years ago about the time he saw John Travolta kissing another man completely out in the open. John and his mystery man were seated at the outdoor patio of a small restaurant in Brentwood and were openly going at it for the world to see when my friend walked in to grab some lunch. He was still in high school so this would have been early 90s. I never understood why he wouldn't come out until I started hearing about Scientology from those who made it out.

Pookie said...

i find it difficult to feel sorry for him. he's in a position of power, so i'll save my pity for those that don't have such an advantage. unless he's completely consumed, frozen, and paralyzed by fear, he could easily choose to use his power and take a stand--any stand. he's chosen this lifestyle, and proudly advocates the 'religion' that uses him. i think this is about to become a battle of wills between scio lawyers and the john doe who has 'proof'. it could get really interesting.

Amartel said...

"Um, his marriage is just as much "his own business" as is his sexuality." Exactly. This whole thing is about using the legal system to hound a celebrity about his private life.

If Travolta came out I doubt it would affect his career. He's so talented, such an institution in the entertainment industry. Permanent A+ list. But bear in mind that just because he's rich and powerful and talented doesn't mean he isn't entitled to the same privacy that we all enjoy. It's not a two-tier system. And he doesn't give up his privacy just because you don't like his church or what you believe to be his lifestyle. If a bunch of holy-rollers were using the legal system to force gays and lesbians out of the closet, would that be acceptable? No. So then why is THIS acceptable?

Also, this complaint, with its very scandalous allegations, is brought by a "John Doe," someone hiding behind a wall of anonymity to attack the reputation and smash the repubtation of a public persona. That's rather craven and makes the allegations even less credible.

Bit dams said...

i do not feel at all bad for someone that is SEXUALLY harassing people who probably are not in a position to do anything about it. would any of you who feel sorry for him mind being treated like he is treating these people? remember, he created his whole FAKE world, and now his children have to hear about his very inappropriate behavior. when you pretened and bring innocent people into it; no sympathy. he is a bully. he uses his wealth and position to take what he wants from people he doesn't think can fight back. sickening.

anita_mark said...

@Agent, now I'm just embarrassed. Rereading what you wrote, that's hilarious and I didn't get it. Sigh. Now I'm blue.

Persephone said...

I believe the guy is hiding behind "John Doe" because he is afraid of the Co$. If you see how they treat/harrass their ex-members, I can only imagine what they would do to a threat to one of their cash cows.

As for $200/hour massage where you arrange to pick your on-line masseuse up on the side of the road...it seems a little shady, and that it was probably meant to be a'rub and tug' situation, and the guy, once he found out who his 'client' was decided to turn him into his own cash cow.

Agent**It said...

Now this: John Doe No. 2 filed a $2 million sex assault suit Tuesday morning in a Los Angeles court claiming "substantial documentation and numerous witnesses regarding the substance of Travolta's actions (Radar).

Read the lurid details of the charges against Travolta. There are some pretty specific and substantial descriptions of the who, what where, etc of the encounter.

John picked him up in his black Lexus SUV with comdoms in the console and choco cake wrappers on the dashboard! (Ha!) And, even if the masseuse was gay, wouldn't he have a right to protect himself from unwanted same-sex advances? Or file charges if attacked?

Also? He claims he felt threated by John who said "rich gay Jewish guys run Hollywood" and they expect sexual favors in exchange for good roles. He told J Doe he got a big part after "doing things that would make most people throw up" while he was on Kotter.

Maybe John Doe set JT up and then flipped on him? But I can't imagine anyone not knowing they are siging a death warrent by going after a star of JT's magnitude who is under the COS protection.

And no, I feel NO sympathy for JT. He made his own prison, has lived in the lap of it's luxury and protection, and lies through his teeth every day of his pathetic life.

Bubbles said...

No one died suddenly after suing Travolta. I think you're thinking of something that happened with one of Tom Cruises accusers.

And the guy claims he was the victim of a sexual attack, hence filing the case as a John Doe.

According to TMZ, there is now a second accuser.

God, John Travolta was gorgeous back in the day. Mind you, so was Cruise. All the good ones.....sigh.

Great deposition questions:

1.) Does any official of the Church of Scientology, past or present, have specific knowledge of your sexual orientation?

2.) Has any official of the Church of Scientology, past or present, been involved in procuring sexual partners for you or your wife?

3.) Has any official of the Church of Scientology, past or present, been involved in keeping the details of your sexual activities or preference from being made public?

Brian said...

"he got a big part after "doing things that would make most people throw up" while he was on Kotter"

I assume this refers to "Saturday Night Fever"?

Ms Cool said...

Oh dear. I just read the 2nd accuser's account. I may have to eat my words. I hope it isn't true.

@Brian - good one.

AB said...

Brian, I am guessing Sat Night Fever but it wasn't specified in the quote from John Doe.

The casting couch, for women, men, boys and girls, has been going on in Hollywood for a loooooong time. I guess it it just part of doing business and if you want to get the good role that is part of the deal.

With the children in Hollywood, as many recent blinds have implied, the parents must be on some level, either willfully ignorant, stupidly naive, or sucked in to the glamor and sacrifice their child for it.

AB said...

The new case comes on the heels of a lawsuit filed yesterday by a Texas-based masseur, who alleged that Travolta tried to have sex with him, and even masturbated in front of him, at the Beverly Hills Hotel on Jan. 16. In addition, the actor suggested a threesome with "a Hollywood starlet," and also told the masseur that he "got where he is now due to sexual favors he had performed when he was in his 'Welcome Back, Kotter' days," and that "Hollywood is controlled by homosexual Jewish men who expect favors in return for sexual activity," according to the lawsuit

Agent**It said...

Brian, I just don't get how those questions could be tied into a deposition ? (Not that this will likely ever get to court; the infamous Marty Singer is involved). I am genuinely curious about how that could evolve.

@agent

IANAL, they were just the most interesting questions that I could imagine being asked in that setting...

I'm consciously ignoring the family and "church" aspect but I think if Travolta came out it would resurrect his career.

So now Travolta is anti-semetic, too? Gay Jews run Hollywood in return for sexual favors? Will he now get the Mel Gibson treatment?

Everyone Knows John Travolta Is Gay

Posted on Dec 13, 2010 @ 06:10AM

In comments unusually candid for a celebrity discussing another star, Carrie Fisher dropped a bombshell in a new interview, saying that everyone knows John Travolta is gay.

Travolta has been followed by gay rumors and reports since the late 1980s. He has always denied them and has enlisted his legal team to help squelch them.

But Fisher, speaking to the Advocate, showed no fear in addressing the topic.

The interviewer asked: “I know you and Travolta go way back, so let’s get really blunt here: Does his (Travolta’s) legal team have any business demanding Gawker remove a recent post suggesting that he’s given (bleep) jobs?”

Fisher answered: “Wow! I mean, my feeling about John has always been that we know and we don’t care. Look, I’m sorry that he’s uncomfortable with it, and that’s all I can say. It only draws more attention to it when you make that kind of legal fuss. Just leave it be.”

The Advocate also notes that in 2009 Fisher gave this statement for a piece about 10 Things gay men should know about women: “We don’t really care that John Travolta is gay.”

WUWT? said...

As for "everyone knows," we in the the flyover upper midwest states don't all know. I had a co-worker 4 years ago who told me she had a friend who read scripts in Hollywood and had good gossip. I asked for an example and she said John Travolta was gay. I was quite surprised, and wondered if she meant to say Tom Cruise. She definately meant John Travolta, and remarked that she had been surprised too. In a month or so I began reading this site, and I had to tell her that it turned out that rumor was EVERYWHERE; I just hadn't heard it. But since then, everyone I say it to up here is as surprised as I was. So we're kind of clueless....

mooshki said...

I don't know how anyone can have sympathy for a man who sexually assaulted someone!!! If he had grabbed a female masseuse by her crotch, would you be saying "Poor John?!" Yeah, being closeted must put you under a lot of stress, but that is not an excuse! He's disgusting. And even if this admittedly shady-sounding guy is lying, it's not like there haven't been plenty of similar stories about him assaulting masseuses before.

DontRainOnMyPrada said...

Now many more masseurs are coming out of the woodwork. Safety in numbers, perhaps. The lawyer claims that he's been contacted by people from all 50 states. Even Alaska? ;)

Princess said...

WUWT? Pretty sure Carrie Fisher was referring to everyone in the celebrity world/Hollywood knew.

lulu said...

Don't feel so sorry for him. Interesting that another person that tried to sue ended up dead. You don't think it was odd that his son died in Barbados (or wherever it was) where it is easy to cover things up - and the ambulance men tried to blackmail him because suspicions on their part. As soon as I heard that his son had died, I knew it was fishy because Jet was an embarrassment to him and alsoI remember seeing a photo of Jet staring at Kelly's chest with this weird look on his face - he was actually leering - it was weird! He was reaching puberty and was becoming a problem. Then when I read about the paramedics I knew something was a bit off. The girl is very pretty and no embarrassment at all but you rarely saw the son. Travolta is a piece of work. He abuses his power, is arrogant and assumes any man will succumb to his sexual harrassment. His secrets would be unfathomable .. Sure his big strapping, robust boy just happened to have a fit while he just happened to be holidaying in some banana republic and just happened to have a lengthy delay in calling the paramedics and or transporting the child to a hospital. I would have tried to blackmail him too! Just think about it folks or tell me what you think.

Lelaina Pierce said...

Supposedly, he has proof that he was in another city on the date of the allegations, but couldn't he have just paid someone off? It would be one thing if this was the first time someone had accused him. I don't see how he is going to get out of this if all these other masseurs keep coming forward.

WUWT? said...

(I wasn't responding directly to Carrie Fisher's comment, more to the pervasive, "Oh we've known this for YEARS, even my parents know, so what else is new" vibe in the comments. Evidently a lot of people knew, but I'm just saying I wasn't one of them and a lot of people I tell are surprised as well. That's all.)
