ReplyDeleteAs a recent first time dog owner, I have to say that my least favourite thing right now is when I am walking the dog, and I have the dog on a leash in one hand (and she PULLS, like a crazy Husky, because she is part crazy Husky), and a bag of fresh poo in the other (just like John Legend), and then a good looking guy walks by and sees me, sweating, trying to control the damn dog and NOT adjust my glasses with the poo-bag-hand.
Goddamnit.
How hilarious is it going to be when Suri turns 13 and is eight inches taller than Tom.

@Maja With a J, when your dog pulls, stop and turn around, or just stop. They learn quickly that they don't get where they want to go if they pull. Never pull back, that turns it into a contest and trust me a part Husky will always win.

ReplyDelete@Maja - one of my dogs is part husky too... I recommend the gentle leader harness - it's completely humane and it really works. The way it has the leash hook under their snout, if they try to pull, it cocks their head to the side and they learn very quickly.

ReplyDelete@Cancan, some of us just have thick legs. It's a bitch that no matter how skinny you are from the waist up, you will always be thick, thick, thick below it. Without some pretty serious sculpting liposuction, a woman's proportions can never change, and thick calves and ankles are almost impossible to change even with very aggressive lipo.

DeleteThanks for the dog walking tips! I am trying the "stop when she pulls" approach, and let's just say, we don't get very far during our walks *L* Her previous owner didn't bother training her (or spaying her, or giving her her shots), so she spent most of her days in the kennel. Needless to say, she is quite excited to go outside, and forgets every command she has ever learned at the sight of another dog (or bird, or mouse, or kid, or cyclist..etc...etc...). She's getting better though. She's very smart.

ReplyDelete@Maja With a J, the gentle leader works wonderfully for some dogs. My dog is a rescue and when I put one on him he turned into the rankest bucking bull you have ever seen, totally freaking nuts!
ReplyDeleteAnother trick I used with the *stop, turn around* bit is to put a few dog treats in my pocket on the side he walks on, that keeps his nose glued there also. If we walk without him pulling for a fair distance, he gets a treat.

@Cancan - Dancing all the time is how you get muscular legs and slender everything else. Look at Stacy Keibler for another good example of that.
ReplyDeleteI have an enormous Yellow Lab/Great Dane mix and the gentle leader is a blessing. He literally drug me on my stomach once before that. But I still loved him anyway :)

ReplyDeleteBy the way, that whole controversy was crazy. His fiance is far from a professional singer and should perhaps restrain her personal feelings over Twitter. Those Chris Brown stans are definitely crazy and should probably focus their efforts more on worrying about their future.
@Maja - Def. agree w/ the others on the Gentle Leader. When I worked in rescue, that and the Halti were used often. I use a harness for my lab that goes around his chest/legs/back, which works pretty well, but I can't recall the name of it.
