Reese Witherspoon Went To Court Yesterday

Reese Witherspoon and her mom were in a Tennessee courtroom yesterday to try and have the wedding of Reese's father annulled and to have him placed in a conservatorship. Yep, the same thing Britney Spears is under. Did you know Reese's parents have been separated for 16 years? That is a really long time. Her mom says the couple still talk to each other several times a week and they go to events together like Reese's wedding. No one knows what happened in court because it was a closed session and the judge sealed the record, but I'm guessing that Reese's family got everything they want and probably gave the woman who married Reese's dad something to go away forever. She is pretty firmly entrenched in that condo that Reese bought her dad.

  1. That sucks. I think she deserves some privacy on this matter.

  2. Hope they can get him the care he needs. Hope they all can find peace.

  5. Sad it had to come to this before they were able to get him the help he needed but that's what happens when someone has dimensia. They have to show harm before you can legally intervene.

  6. Why don't people want to EARN things for themselves. First the Houston family, and now this trick. I understand that working is hard, and it can stink, but nothing beats the satisfaction of being independent and able to fulfill your own desires.

GET JOBS PEOPLE. GO TO WORK. Stop trying to leech off of what others have worked for.

  7. Wasn't he a doctor? I'd guess he has sizable assets of his own for an opportunist to go after. Sad.

  11. My mom had to do this with my father--he would do crazy things like go out for a haircut and come back with a new Cadillac--he was sick for a very long time and refused a lot of needed care--and becoming his conservator was the only way my mother could make sure he would do what was needed.

  12. They've been separated 16 years -- and Reese's mom and Reese still want to have power over not just who he spends his life with but also his finances? JHChrist -- are you sure there aren't serious control issues at work here. I mean, WHY THE FUCK AREN'T THEY DIVORCED IN THE FIRST PLACE, has she not granted it to him?

  13. My heart goes out to them. I'm also dealing with a close family member that is going through some age related difficulties. Its tough, putting it mildly. This other woman seems to be a grifter type. Lets hope the family keeps her away before she can stir more trouble.

  14. We have no idea what is behind all this. I am sure, at the very least, his daughter has his best interest at heart.

Sme people "separate" because they cannot live together but are still together. It allows for a socially acceptable open marriage. Maybe that is the case and in his dimentia he was manipulated by the other lady.

    Sad, the whole thing.

  15. They should also have changed his name. I think as soon as the woman heard the name Witherspoon, she saw dollar signs.

  16. @Amy and it took forever, there's more to it than what you are reading here. The writers of this blog aren't sure how to embed links that aren't ads and this post is written in a mean way.

Reese's dad has dementia and some woman swooped in and conned him into marrying her so she could get his money. He didn't remember doing it (because of the dementia).

  17. AuntJess, in the post a couple days back about this, many of us shared our stories of family members in decline. A lot of us know what you are going through, or a variation of it, and it's rough but I believe it makes us stronger. You can get to our conversations by clicking the Reese Witherspoon label on the bottom of Enty's post and then choosing the entry from a couple days ago.
    Good luck with your situation.

  18. I'm glad that Reese was able to get there quickly and intervene. Hopefully now she can take the steps necessary to take care of her father. I just spoke to my dad today about not driving anymore, which led to another argument. I wonder if I should seek conservatorship for him so that I can pay his bills and stuff.
