Your Turn

I know I have asked you in the past if you would date someone who had been convicted of a crime, but when I saw this website that ranks inmates by attractiveness I wondered how many people would try and date or have a relationship with someone who is actually in jail.

If someone's crime was a youthful mistake (theft, bar fight, etc.) and well in the past, then yes I would date them.

If someone was in jail? HELL NO. Miss Hunter only dates rich white collar guys because I'm snobby like that and I like shoes.

Depends on the crime, and their degree of remorse, but someone with violent tendencies? Not a chance.

I misread that. No, I would not seek out someone still incarcerated to get involved with.

A guy I know is 'engaged' to his HS sweetheart. Thing is, she's serving life without parole in another state. For murder. She and her bf at the time decided to kill an old man for his coin collection.
So every month he sends her money for the commissary or whatever it's called and writes her letters.
He feels guilty for some reason. I don't get it. He left HS and joined the service, to this day he thinks that if he 'didn't leave her' she wouldn't have become a killer.

Do.Not.Get.That.

I agree with Miss Hunter. Many of us have backstories and we hopefully learn and grow up when we make mistakes/mess up. People deserve a second chance, even those that went to jail. Depends on the reason, of course......there is such a thing as white collar crime! :)

omg, you should see that show on OWN called Prison Wives. It is mostly women who have married inmates and it is crazy what these women put themselves and their families through to be married to guys in prison.

Not unless George Clooney or Brad Pitt get popped.

car54- I have seen that too. Seems like the psychology is that some of the wives seek out these men because #1- they know where they are at all times #2- they know they are not cheating on them with another woman (physically at least if they do not have congical visits)

There was one guy I saw who was in prison for waving a samurai sword around. He was pretty cute, too. If I was going to date an inmate, I'd want it to be him.

No thank you. Violent offenders would be a NO. Sexual offenders would be a NO. White collar crime could mean I would be scammed, or have my money or property stolen. If it's just failure to appear on something minor, then how dumb are you? NO.

I wouldn't be as judgmental about certain crimes (drunk and disorderly, or something understandable) but my mother would not. My mother also knows how to "google," so, out of fear of the crimes my mother would commit after finding out I was dating a convict, I would try to keep away.

The question is: would i get involved with someone who is presently incarcerated.
The answer is a big, fat, resounding NO. NEVER. NOT under any circumstances.

Well.. lets just say I got an uncle this way. Now they are divorced and I got an uncle younger than me, not in jail.. He is no longer my uncle either..

Family.. what can you do.

NO!

Depends on the crime. I wouldn't kick 'em out for insider trading.

If a person actually got a jail or prison sentence, then they must have done something heinous because a lot of stuff people are arrested for can be plea bargained away for probation and restitution. So I would not want any kind of relationship with someone incarcerated.

Let's make this harder. What if your boyfriend/girlfriend/husband/wife were arrested for a serious crime? Would you stick by them during the trial, while they were in prison?

My true story....One guy I dated long-distance for a year broke up with me. Three years after the breakup, he contacted me to let me know that he was going to prison (I won't share the offense, but it was something major). He wanted me to hear it from him directly, rather than via the gossip mill. The thing that slays me is that the girlfriend he dated after me -- she stuck by him. Through the trial. Through almost 5 years in prison. He is now out and living with her. All I can say is god bless her. I would *never* have stuck by him. Never, never, never.

There are a lot of prison wifes I ran into over the years. Most of the prisoners were in a hurry to find women to support them. And I mean support! They (95%) were running a con on the women for money. A lot of women fall for this. I used to know lot of them and the men didn't care if the women were almost broke. It's sick, but a lot of people get involved and then get taken.

Del Riser got it right. Women should NEVER do this. It's just so sad. And I've seen the program too. All these con men have to be suffering from some type of ASPD. There is just no other reasonable explanation. Stay away from this - far away!!

They don't call them cons for nothing.

I never did, but my cousin did. She was a guard and he was in prison because he and his friend committed armed robberies of jewelry stores. She married him the minute he got out of prison. They moved to another part of the state and he opened....a jewelry store!! Must have had it stashed somewhere. Anyway, at his trial he'd turned states evidence, so his sentence was shorter than his co-robber, but when the other guy got out of prison he hunted him down and murdered him.

That did not go well, did it?

If they did serious jail time hell to the NO! My neighbor down the street MARRIED a guy who went to jail for a heinous crime against his own child. She thought he was not guilty and just making it easy on his daughter so she didn't have to testify. I can't wrap my mind around the fact that people do this.
