Angelina Jolie Can Direct Fifty Shades Of Grey If She Wants

Universal loves the idea of having Angelina Jolie direct the first installment of Fifty Shades Of Grey. Apparently if she wants it, the job is hers according to Deadline. It is a unique idea from them. They give Angelina her first big budget directorial role and she gives them buzz for the movie because she is Angelina Jolie. It's rare that you go see a movie because of a director, but during the filming she would be the center of attention and there would be pap photos of her everyday directing it. When she was in Eastern Europe directing In The Land of Blood And Honey the paps found her almost everyday so imagine what they would do if she was closer. I wonder though if directing it would be enough for her. So far she has not said yes or no.

Yea I think she would want to direct and star in it a la Streisand.

They wants the Leg to direct soft porn?

Seachica said...

Why does this movie need director star power? I already hear enough about this book. Increasingly, I don't understand why people continue to pay attention to her. All her recent films seem like duds

Refuse to read the book, will not see the movie. You could not pay me to read Twilight sex fanfiction. Okay, maybe I would for a hefty paycheck, but otherwise, there is no way in hell. :)

Cassiopeia said...

It won't make me want to see it.
I loathe these books and won't see the movie.
ugh, they are so poorly written, don't get me started.

Henriette said...

This is perfect! A bad director directing atrocious shit. Hollyweird finally got it right.

Team EleanoreRigby!

Jolene Jolene said...

She won't do it. No way.

Amber said...

From the horrendous excerpts I've seen posted, and the things people have said about it, it seems this book would be beneath her.

Fifty Shades of Crap will probably have better writing as a script than it did as a book series. Seriously, what is the script writer going to do with all the texts and e-mails in the third installment? I've "heard" that's all the third book is. Sounds like an X rated You Got Mail.

Henriette said...

@amber
The book series is beneath anyone who can actually read English.

I prefer to live it rather than read it. ;)

She can go crawl in a hole if she wants too.

Can someone please give me the lowdown on 50 shades of grey so that I don't have to google it?

Henriette said...

@katsm0711
What "lowdown" on 50 Shades of Crap? It is this very bad romance/s&m bondage fiction written on a Twilight fanfiction site. It was orginally self-published. The end.

RenoBlondee said...

The only reason this became popular was because of the Twilight groupies. If it was written w/o any of that to do w/ it it would be in the bargain dollar bin w/ all the other crap books.
It's the equivalent of an after 10 pm Cinemax movie.
I doubt she'll touch this.

Princess said...

Ive heard 50 Shades of Grey described as "housewife porn" more than once, I can totally see her doing it. Plus all her other directing work has been a flop, so she'll think this best selling book will secure a popular film, which isn't true. Plus she's not that good of a director.

So this really is a Twilight fan fic? I read that on a message board a couple of months ago and thought it was a joke. But...it really is? How sad!

EleanorRigby said...

To anyone interested, you can Google it and read the original fanfiction starring the Twilight lovers for free. I am not suggesting that you read it, but if you were going to, read it as originally intended... Twilight smut - for free!

katsm0711 said...

Wow. Thanks for explaining it. I only saw half of one Twilight and thought it was too cliche playing to the sad lonely girl reading it who imagined herself as Kristen Stewart. Fine if you're a young teenager but if you're older.... And weird there's a "romance novel" knockoff to what? Suck in the older crowd or eww for the age group I mentioned above who's into bondage?

Lurky Loo said...

That pretty much ensures that I will never go see the movie. Why do people insist on feeding her ego? It's like feeding sharks or alligators...just a bad idea all around.

RedHeadMed said...

I read the series and was scratching my head at how the hell they are going to make it a movie that isn't NC-17. There are COUNTLESS sex scenes in it, explicitly described, which strings together a loose storyline that could have been done in one book if the pages weren't so full of hilarious descriptives of their sexy bits.

Dolly72 said...

I agree that the studio will most likely spend some good money on the screenplay, and to be honest...Angie probably knows more about kinky sex than most of hollywood:) I think its time that we had a soft core or explicit sex movie... and it should be NC17, because if done right that will be their target market. I am a little excited to see where they take this story... the writing was very juvenile, but the core of the relationship between Christian and Ana could make for a very hot movie if the right people are in it! I am playing the wait and see game...

CridChild said...

OK, I'm going to admit it, the books were a guilty pleasure for me. I'll probably see the movie (at home where no one can see my shame) no matter who directs it.

FrenchGirl said...

i finish the first part,i read the 20 last pages of the second part and i never start the 3rd part:it's very very awful

bg said...

She probably wrote this book, too...in her attic while sick with the flu over 2 days.

pilly said...

Ditto!!!

Elizabeth said...

bg, Hahahha

Seachica said...

@dolly72 - rent Secretary or 9 1/2 Weeks. It seems like Hollywood has to have a kinky sex fix every 10 years or so

Sherry said...

Just as I suspected..Drivel. Thanks for telling me all about it so I can move onto some better literature. I'll skip the movie too.

Dead Angel said...

The books are so bad, I can't understand making this tripe into a movie. It's almost embarrassing. It's going to be a lose/lose for whoever directs it because the material sucks.

Robin the Mad Photographer said...

What the hell...she can't possibly fuck it up any more than any other director would...

Then again, it's a lot easier to make a decent movie out of a crappy book than a really good one, so if they actually picked a good director/screenwriter combo and decided to go for the NC-17, screw the MPAA, it just might turn out to be interesting, or at least interesting enough. It probably stands a better chance of making it into theaters due to the built-in "mommy porn" audience (really, would YOU want to be the one telling millions of pissed-off, horny soccer moms that they can't have their raunchy movie? Didn't think so...), and if worst comes to worst, they could go direct to on-demand cable or even straight to DVD; after all, it's not as if this one's going to be competing come awards season, which is the main reason to make sure your movie plays in theaters first. Not that I plan on reading the books or seeing the movie, mind you, but plenty of other people would...

Elizabeth said...

I'm sorry but the image of the Jolie filming Octomom in the Valley for Cinemax makes me laugh.

Staple611 said...

I didn't know much about this book, other than lots of people were reading it, so I recently picked it up. BIGGEST PIECE OF STEAMING GARBAGE I HAVE EVER READ. Seriously. I think I could string together a random list of words that would be more interesting.

misspoppypants said...

Hopefully she won't do voice over narration because I want to stab my eyes out the next time I read the phrase 'my inner love goddess.' Every one to three pages milg repeats itself at least one time.

misspoppypants said...

The author cites 'Stephanie Meyer' as her major influence. Well, obviously, but how embarrassing to say so. What about "Anonymous" The Story of O? Anonymous should be her inspiration. According to Wikipedia the author was cited as one of the 100 most influential people on some list, I am too lazy to look up the list, but it's still laughable even if the list came from her own family.

timebob said...

As Michael K so wisely said in his post about it.

"If the writer cared about the integrity (HA!) of her masterpornpiece, she would've sold the rights to Skinemax and asked Shannon Tweed to direct it."

Carolyn said...

I picked it up at Barnes and Noble the other day just to see the hype and randomly opened to a page in the middle. The part my eyes landed on was along the lines of "He had an erection and I was like, "Wow!" Maybe I should have read more before judging it, but um, really? That's erotic? That's good storytelling? Go pick up an Anne Rice book to see how erotica should be done.

Carolyn said...

To be clear, the storyteller was like, wow, at the erection. I was not like, wow. :P

Marisa said...

I started reading it the other afternoon. Got halfway through and threw it on the floor- where it belongs.

Is this not written by a high school student who failed English? I mean holy shit! And anyone who refers to "my vagina" as "my sex" is a fucking idiot.

Also, Anna cums like every 3 seconds. That is not how it works. Maybe I don't watch enough porn, but I couldn't get over that.

Fuck that book. Idiots.

mooshki said...

I still cannot believe some shitty fanfic has blown up like this. And just when we thought we were almost free of the Twilight crapfest.

mooshki said...

Marisa, at least "my sex" is better than "down there." Gag.

astrogirl said...

I will admit to reading the Twilight books, i liked the story but the writing was godawful, so I shudder at even the thought of picking up one of these shockers.

Agent**It said...

Skip the books and read the reviews on Amazon. They are hilarious.

tamarind said...

never saw/read twilight...but opened a copy of this "mommy Porn" in a grocerystore- my husband's like what's that and so i read him a few lines...woah. how it's written... too many descriptions.very obviously "pushing the limit" for scandal. was not impressed

Popcorn Sutton said...

Agent**It, I think those are the only reason I am glad this book is a "thing". Those reviews are hilarious. They should make a movie about those. I would watch that.

Cosette said...

i would sooner see someone with a bit more talent direct it, but.... i'm sure her and her Leg will win out.

Agent**It said...

@Popcorn, It would be hilarious. I would watch !

Stephanie said...

I actually love this idea. I tried to read the book and it was super annoying, but they'll hire real writers to work on the screenplay and I think Angie would have an interesting take on how to film it. I don't think there's a snowball's chance in hell she'd actually take them up on the offer, but it's a shrewd marketing move to try and get some A-list talent involved with it.

Henriette said...

My colleagues send me various excerpts from the books as torture! The books have become a huge joke on my campus.

Lelaina Pierce said...

I have no desire to read the books, but I MIGHT see the movie if she really directed it, which I HIGHLY doubt she will.

ladybug42 said...

I don't see all the hatred..I was never a twilight fan but liked the book! Yes alot of it was repeatedly said but at least it's followed through out the book

ladybug42 said...

By liking the book I mean 50 shades...and I'd like to know other books that are along those story lines that arent so "badly written"
