Serious, Chenoweth? Lucite heels? Sheesh.

Steve Martin has some big hands. My crush on him continues...

Ryan, Short and Spielberg? It's an "Innerspace' reunion.

They all turned out for Nora....wonderful

Where are Tom Hanks and Billy Crystal?

What's with all the hats? It looks like a casting call for The Adjustment Bureau.

Martin Short seems like such a genuinely nice man.

Love Steve Martin, but what number wife is this? And is she the youngest yet?

Love Paul Simon's music to the moon and back. Listening to him describe his genius during the Paul Simon in Central Park video, however, really soured me towards him personally. He couldn't say enough wonderful things about himself!

Lots o' class acts. Must say a lot about Nora.

It's strange to see Bette looking like a little old lady...

@Discoflux, never noticed Steve's hands. I've always had a crush on him, too.

Broderick is there, where's SJP?

Oh Meg, you're wasting away.
Her face looks better than it did lately, but she isn't looking great.

Megerz said...

Jennifer westfeldt continues to hold on tight to her Hamm even at funerals.

Forget the heels, is Kristin smiling and waving at paps on the way into a memorial service? That's far more tacky.

AKM said...

Anne Stringfield is only Steve Martin's second wife. That...isn't so bad, right? And he was only five years older than Victoria Tennant. ???

I think Cheno's shoes are fine.

Miz said...

No snark this time, it's nice to see someone who made such a cinematic impact appreciated. May she rest.

Frufra said...

Thanks, AKM - I can live with that! I'm sure Steve's up nights worried about how I view his private life :-).

I really liked his book, Born Standing Up. Made me love him even more. He also seems fairly genuine, for what it's worth.

These people are all so tiny.

Awwwww Norah would have blushed seeing all the greats gathered to pay tribute. Paul Simon looks like a Walmart version of Goodfellahs! Nice to see Mr Spielberg joining the proceedings. Wonder what he thinks of Tommy girl’s divorce uhhhhh termination of contract.

Beth: Tom Hanks was there. Buzzfeed has more photos if you're interested. I don't know about Billy Crystal though.

I think Meg Ryan looks pretty good there. I like her dress.

I love ya Ms. Chenoweth but what up with the heels.

Who pissed of the Divine Ms M?

Del Riser said...

Good to see so many paying their respects to the great Ms. Ephron.

Love Steve Martin, and Martin Short.

Frufra said...

@ B., re the hats - it has been my experience that an aging gentleman enjoys wearing a hat to cover his bald/ing head. At least in my family.

Meg Ryan? I thought it was one of the olsen twins at first and thought to myself," Hey, she looks good with that dress on."

Looks like Matthew Broderick ignored the "must wear black" memo and got sent home to change! Tee hee.

I tried to love Kristen C, but when she guested on AI as a judge while they were picking talent she was an idiot of huge proportions.
Anyway..
LOVE Steve Martin too!
I'm sorry Nora is gone. She was so talented.

Shortest congregation ever!!!

I would hold on to him alot!!!!! Man I love him on Mad Men

@Frufra - Have you read The Pleasure of My Company or Shopgirl?

The movie for Shopgirl did the main character absolutely no justice, IMO, but I'm also not much of a Clare Danes fan. The Pleasure of My Company is my favorite of all of his books. Pure Drivel was pretty good, too.

Lainey posted this wonderful tribute from Nora Ephron to Meryl Streep. I think the thought she put into this little speech shows what a wonderful writer she was...:

Omg those shoes ! To a funeral ... I hope it was an inside joke or something.

The hats were there because Nora Ephron was Jewish, and that it's the habit, whether you're Jewish or not, to wear a yarmulke or a hat for a man to a service or a burial. There are no specific memorial service in Judaism, just a regular office, often held at the house of the deceased person, during eight days with the sons or the widower reading an additional Kaddish to the ceremony.

For the record, Spielberg, Paul Simon are Jewish. Lorne Michaels, too, but he forgot that, or just removed his yarmulke when he went out. Steve Martin has no Jewish origins in spite of his nose, but he knows the etiquette. And Jennifer Westfeldt and Bette Midler are Jewish too.

I loved Shopgirl. It was a great novella.

I just heard a horrible story about Lorne Michaels from a former writer of SNL back in its hey day. Carrie Fisher was pretty bad too in the story with her ex-husband Paul Simon.

"The hats were there because Nora Ephron was Jewish..."

Oh right, duh, I should have realized. My ex's family weren't very observant though.

I love that Matthew wore gray. I always wear gray (although a darker shade than his) to funerals as well.

I noticed his hands when I saw "The Jerk". I was so jealous of the Pizza in a cup!

@billybob- she wouldn't have blushed at the greats. These people were her friends. Would you blush if your family and friends came to your memorial?

Robert said...

Bette's a yenta now!

Robert said...

Or maybe she always was...just looking the part these days.

I feel like Kristen C's shoes are the eptiome of everything that bothers me about her, but nice crowd for Nora, her wit will be missed...

tara17 said...

Kristen is like 5 feet tall, so she can wear pretty much any shoe she wants. The mary-jane shoe and lucite heel combo is a nice contrast.

I did a double take at Steve Martin's wife too! Well, he's looked the same for the past 30 years, so why not. I loved him with VTennant, pretty much because of LA Story, which I find amazing.

Angela said...

@ B. Profane
Well, your namesake is half-Jewish and described as a shlemiel all over the novel, so it might be time to get a little more education about his origins...

jaariel said...

OK, Meg R looks like she has a prosthetic leg! And she's too scrawny. I suspect some amphetamine abuse, alongside her partner, Johnny Cougar.

Martin Short will always be a 10 in my book. He's under appreciated hilarity IMO

And I have love/hate feelings for Stevie Martin. I think he's probably a legitimate genius, IQ-wise. He is a brilliant comedian, musician, writer, and author. But I also occasionally feel a "prick-vibe" emanating from him. The Jerk is a LOL-classic, and his fiction is witty, insightful, & smart, but he seems to battle with hubris. (and quite honestly if I were as talented & successful as he, I would no doubt be an insufferable prick too).
**and I think he's classically handsome as well**
^^ Call me, Steve, so I can work out my feelings for you!^^. Hahahaha!
