Woman Sues Justin Bieber For $9M

Would you admit that you have been to a Justin Bieber concert? I don't think I would ever admit that. Not only is one woman admitting it, she is also suing Justin Bieber for over $9M because she says she suffered permanent hearing loss at a Bieber concert. Not an Ozzy Osbourne concert or a Motorhead concert. Not even a Poison concert. Nope. Justin Bieber. She might as well have said The Wiggles. Apparently Bieber had some gondola he used to go over the audience and it caused sound to be slammed back into this woman's ears. Uh huh. This happened in 2010 and she just managed to get that suit filed in the two year window. I think I would have gone to another concert just so I could blame them instead of Bieber.

No, I wouldn't admit I had gone to a Bieber concert, nor would I actually go to one.

WTF?

A gondola---for real?

Has she heard of ear plugs, or walking out when it got too loud for her? I'm guess this isn't turning into a class action lawsuit, and that the rest of the audience walked out with their hearing in tact.

I hate these kind of wasteful lawsuits.

Hey, Enty, can we file a class-action lawsuit against the music industry for the constant stream of shit we've been subjected to for the past 15 years?

I'm clearly not doing my part as an American as I have not filed NEARLY enough lawsuits to keep up with my fellow man.

Reading an article on Hyperacusis made me realize I'm not alone, ha ha! I always thought it was just me, the way I can't stand certain sounds (wrappers mostly). The difference between her and me is that (1) I wouldn't be caught dead at a JB concert and (2) I'm woman enough to admit, though, that I did this to myself.

A Justin Bieber show is going to be louder than Motorhead. Why? Hordes of SHRIEKING 13-year-old girls. I can see popping an eardrum or two. When I read about the lawsuit I laughed. Did she really not know what she was in for?

Oh, and also: earplugs. Jeesh.

I have managed to never hear Justin Bieber sing, nor have I seen him perform. I am hoping to go to my grave saying this.

Seriously, though, where does she come up with a $9 million figure? Courts are not there to make you rich, they are there to compensate you for your loss. Even if her hearing was damaged, I doubt that it's worth that amount of money.

I went to a Megadeath/Motorhead concert. I was the only woman not patted down by security. And I don't remember it being that loud. But big metal heads are quieter than annoying young girls.

My sis-in-law tried to lay some guilt on me to get me to take my nieces to see Justin Bieber. I said no. They're your kids, you suffer. I draw the line.

Would never go to a Beiber concert, but I dance to the wiggles with my two kids everyday. This is their last tour as the original group. I wish we could take them, but the two closest venues are Nashville and Philadelphia. As anyone with small children knows, that road trip would be horrendous and exhausting for everyone.
As for the woman, she probably has hearing loss from the screaming girls, not the "music"

This is why I won't go to any rock/pop concerts. Ever. Cannot abide loud music.

....aaaand now my conversion to a cranky old fart is complete...

I went. Because I totally love Justin Bieber. (Not really. But I do totally love my daughter who was nuts about him at the time). Em is right - shrieking tweens emit a screech so loud and painful I could see it causing damage. And the little bastard just kept egging them on "Scream if you think there should be one less lonely girl!". I wanted to beat the crap out him. That heart contraption in the picture hovered and spun right over our heads. Yes it was loud, yes it was awful, yes we both wore earplugs. Because, c'mon dummy, what'd you think it was going to sound like in there?

This one takes the cake for the dumbest story of the week. Can I sue Neil Young for making my ears bleed at a concert of his in 1976? At least he made the conscious decision to stack Marshall amps 12 across & 6 high on both sides of the stage. Bieber wasn't the one screaming.

Well in that case I am suing the Jonas Brothers because, I am sad to admit this, I did go to their show in Las Vegas a few years back because my daughter wanted to go. It's the age of these certain girls...I want to say 8-13...when they all scream at once it sounds like a jet airplane taking off. For 2 hours. add Demi Lovato and her high-pitched squeal...horrendous. I am suing Jonas and Lovato.

The Wiggles...hahahahahaha

@Christina, my kids loved the Wiggles, too! Saw them in concert twice. They drove on stage in the Big Red Car to start the show. Yeah. That's right. So punk rock :-).

Oh, forgot to add, I hear you re the road trip torture. In fact, the Wiggles actually helped me get through numerous horrible road trips. They'd stop screaming and sing along.
I'll be forever indebted to those guys for keeping me from driving my minivan right off a cliff!

I hate people who look for any excuse to make a buck without actually working for it. Even hookers at least earn their pay honestly. Not to diss prostitutes anywhere.

@Popnursing, I don't think I've ever seen your comments before but this one and the one for the blinds makes me love you. "The little bastard..." Heehee.

I've never been to a JB concert nor have I heard any if his songs other than "baby, baby,...but I have a sex dream about him twice!

What he should be sued for is his crime against decent music!

I more curious how her daughter's hearing is doing

This is why I bought that bag of 80 pairs of earplugs at Home Depot. I never go to a concert that has amplification without a pair or two. The Dead Kennedys, the Punk Rock Family Reunion? MDC? Municipal Waste? Fall of Efrafra? Amebix? The Subhumans? Even Gogol Bordello at a bigger venue? My ears hurt with the earplugs; they would bleed if I didn't have them.

I have tinnitus, and it makes me want to stab my right ear with an ice pick (constant ringing). It does not make me want to sue someone for $9mil. In fact, if I had $9mil, I would gladly pay someone to find a cure.

Tinnitus sucks.

I have seen the Wiggles live! I have also seen the Jonas Brothers live, several times. I'll admit it.

But if you're going to be in a close space with thousands of tween girls shrieking and really loud music, your ears are going to get effed up. Earplugs (and those handy shooting range earmuff things for the kiddoes) are not that expensive!!! The force of the sound still freaked out my ear-protected child. Those scenes are crazy. It'll blow your ears out in the first five minutes and then the bands sound even more like chipmunks than usual.

@Anita -Thanks! I have a lot of fun here. It's like being on the mothership of snark. I have found my people...
