Dax Shepard Admits He Is Married To Kristen Bell

While giving an interview to aintitcool.com for his latest movie, Hit & Run, Dax Shepard accidentally let it slip out that he is married to Kristen Bell. As I have been saying for at least a year, if not way longer, the couple has been married for a very long time. They might like to say they are waiting for same sex marriage to become legal, but I think that is when they will get around to announcing it. Go check their tax returns and see what their filing status says. Anyway, during the interview Dax talks about how he got financing for the movie.

"I worked for GM for years, and I had certain things that I brought to the table to the investors, which was like, “I’m married to Kristen Bell, we can get her for a bargain. I own this Lincoln, I own a super-expensive, off-road racecar; it’ll be free. And I have a great relationship with GM; I think I can get cars for free from them.” So, that was the cultural capital I brought to it in hopes that someone would finance the movie."

Unfortunately the interviewer did not ask a followup question, so I guess Dax will just say it was a slip of the tongue or taken out of context. Just think it is interesting that it came out the week they said they were not married. (Thanks Jeremy)

  1. I know he's said before it's easier to call her his wife, but that they're not legally married. I don't care either way. Maybe they are married for real.

  2. Nice work, Ent. Keep that scoop comin'!

  3. I call Mr Lite my hubby and we have been happily unmarried for 7 years. It just sounds so much more grown up and serious than boyfriend.

  5. I've been with my love on and off since we were 12..I always refer to him as my "wifey". For some reason he doesn't like it...lol

  6. Keep giving us scoop Entward, and thanks!

  7. I love those 2 together. They're so cute for each other.

  8. Oh he'll, I've been with my other half for a decade, we even have a child, AND refer to each other as spouses in public but aren't married. It becomes habit. I can't tell you how many people out there still give lectures about "why don't you get married" or "how could you do that to your child".

They aren't married, it's just one of those things.

  9. FYI, whocares, in Texas, if you did that ( present yourselves as husband and wife), BINGO, you'd be common law married! As in, have to get a divorce if you split! That's always kind of fascinated me. Supposed to be a legal throwback to our Wild West days, when the preacher/justice of the peace didn't come around too often.

I'm just a law nerd. I truly truly don't give a hoot about the marital status of others - if you're happy, I'm happy for you, KWIM? Just a little fun factoid.

  10. They're cute, they seem to genuinely love each other, and I don't get any whiff of either one being an asshole, so I'm happy for them.

  11. Actually, it's called an informal marriage in Texas and both parties have to agree that they are husband and wife, live under the same roof, and present to the public as husband and wife. Then both parties also have to fill out paperwork that has to be approved by the court. Its not "hey were married" as you make it out to be. We don't agree we are husband and wife. ....also, I don't live in Texas, nor do Dax and Kristen.

  13. Oh, whocares, I know that neither you nor these folks live in Texas ( or me, any more, actually). I just was always fascinated by that little aspect of the law is all. I am by no means an expert on Texas marriage law, but I do think that, actually, one party can claim informal marriage, and have the opportunity to prove it in a court of law, when there are alimony issues to sort out, that type of thing.

Anywhoo, this post just made me think about that. Have a great day!

  15. I don't think it's any easier to say "I'm married to" than it is to say "I'm engaged to".
Enty said this for years, and I've noticed how many times they slip up in public.
Maybe it's a career thing, like Kristin wants her image to be young and fun. She looks years younger than she is, perhaps she doesn't want her image to be that if Jennifer Garner or Jessica Alba after marriage. They don't seem to be in a hurry for kids either.

  16. Krisen has referred to Dax as her husband several times on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, I've always figured they had gotten married at some point, or were going the common law route.

  17. I love these two together! Really a cute couple.

My BF and I have been together for 12 years. I will often call him husband bc it's just easier in a pinch. I don't want to go into the whole he's my partner and we own houses together but I don't have rights to his social security benefits, even though we've been together for 12 yrs, and choose to stay unmarried bc we are both terrified of marriage bc we had crazy parents in unhappy marriages who messed us up.

    :D

  18. He also slipped up on Chelsea Lately, and Jeff Daniels (the guest at the time) called him on it. Dax just said that he refers to her that way, but they won't get married "until everyone can." Not sure I buy it. He seemed kind of surprised at being put on the spot about it.

  19. I don't understand why they wouldn't be honest about them? Sign me up as a Dax/Bell lover, he is good on Parenthood.

  20. DAx definitely has a "good side" and "bad side" in that in some pics he's cute and others he looks kinda weird.
Married is a state of mind.

  23. I lived my husband for a very long time before we got married and I always referred to him as my husband. It IS easier. Boyfriend doesn't cut it, nor does fiance when you have no plans to get married at that time. The word "husband" means this is a long term committed relationship that doesn't come across with any other word.

The only reason we did get married is for tax purposes (until then it was better to file as an individual) and because we were personally ready to have a kid.

Good I figured out how to delete, thank goodness. I believe what Enty says. He's never been wrong as far as I can recall. This is just another instance of Enty knowing what's really going on years before the public finds out. I love that. Don't ask me why people's private lives are interesting, they just are, it's escapism I guess. And Enty, whatever, whoever you are, keep on doing that thing you do. Because it's awesome.

  25. Ha! Did I not describe the movie as a "GM commercial?" Now I know why! :)

p.s. It opens tomorrow - go see it!

  28. As a fifty plus woman with a gentleman companion, I refer to him as my Beau and he refers to me as his Woman. For us, it works.

  29. In Texas, only saying you are married doesn't do it and actually isn't necessarily important. Mingled funds (shared accounts and the like, but not necessarily taxes) are actually more important (you don't have to fill out paperwork). I know this because I'm from Texas and it came up in my divorce in figuring spousal support.

I think most readers thought I was a paid publicist for the movie Savages. I felt like every other post of mine was saying "Oh, but in the movie Savages. . " It was just the first movie I had seen in a while and that Taylor Kitsch fella was hot hot hot :)

Most of my foreign friends usually use the word partner for their LTRs. I guess here in the U.S it's often used in committed gay relationships, but I like it for everybody. Your long term relationship should be seen as a partnership

  31. I still refer to my now husband as my partner. I like the connotation that we are equal in every aspect of our relationship.

  34. Interesting thread. My partner and I have been together 13+ years, I'd like to get married, he's really against it. So when he calls me his wife, I don't love it. No kids, no real reason to get married just... want to? I have to call him "my partner David" because we live in West Hollywood and partner here really does mean gay. Opinions welcome!

I understand not wanting to get married, but then I personally find it odd he calls you his wife. Please forgive me for asking, but is he maybe trying to protect some money but would feel terrible asking for a pre-nup? Just a thought
