Giuliana And Bill Rancic Welcome A Boy
Giuliana and Bill Rancic announced to E! and then the rest of the world that the surrogate they had hired to carry their baby had delivered a baby boy who they have named Edward Duke. Sounds kind of regal doesn't it? Bill and Giuliana took all the credit for the pregnancy and delivery by Tweeting, "The 'Duke' has landed! Edward Duke Rancic was welcomed into the world last night at 7lbs 4oz. G & I feel blessed beyond words...We did it!"
I'm not sure either of you did anything but, if you want to take credit, then I guess that is your right. Where is the love for the surrogate who carried your baby for nine months? I don't know. Maybe I am cranky, but shouldn't you be thanking the person who carried the baby before you start taking credit yourself. Am I wrong?
Maybe he meant a collective "We" as in everyone involved. I can't help it, I like them both and am very happy for them and their new family.
ReplyDeleteI hear ya
ReplyDeleteBut
I don't thank The Oven for cooking my dinner
oh give Guliana her moment, maybe the surrogate wants to remain anonymous. The surrogate was an incubator for the child she isn't the mother Guliana is.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure she was compensated well for bringing their son into the world.
I am assuming they meant "We did it" in a "we finally have a baby" way....
ReplyDeleteEnty-wow....just wow....what a hateful spiteful and bigotted thing to say. Giuliana and Bill are the parents of this child. I don't care how the pregnancy was carried and that is a private matter between then and their surrogate.
ReplyDeleteWhether you like them or not, she has battled cancer and chose this route because it was the only way to conceive. The child has their DNA, not that it matters, and the surrogacy issue is an agreed upon, private and legals matter.
This is their moment and their child and how dare you try and take that away from them! You have insulted all of us who have chosen unconventional, yet loving and caring alternatives to build their families, whether through surrogacy, adoption, IVF, or what have you.
I enjoy this blog, but your post has really hit a nerve with me and I find it to be very hurtful.
Well said. They deserve to be happy, and they've had a tough road to get here, as anyone knows who's suffered through the heartbreak of infertility and miscarriage.
DeleteVery well said Ice Angel. Couldnt agree more
DeleteBeautifully said Ice Angel.
ReplyDeleteI was going to say the same thing all of you have said, but I think you all summed it up quite nicely. Also, when you hire a surrogate, it is a business arrangement - I'm sure that she was compensated very well for what she did and I'm sure that they've thanked her plenty in private. The fact that they hired a surrogate (out of medical necessity, no less) doesn't make this baby any less theirs.
ReplyDeleteAnd one more thing - it's not like they ever tried to deceive us (unlike certain actresses/singers) by pretending that Giuliana was carrying the baby herself, so I don't see how they "took all the credit for the pregnancy and delivery."
ReplyDeletei dont care how...i am just happy for them. having to care and love for something other than yourself is life changing.
ReplyDeleteesp after all theyve been through

ReplyDeleteI honestly took it as "we finally have our child after all the crap- we made it through."
ReplyDeleteCome on, Enty- chill and get happy. Three day weekend!
Ice angel, you're quickly becoming one of my favorite posters.
Bill Rancic is my hero..he can never do anything wrong.
ReplyDeleteThe man builds houses in Haiti for crying out loud.
Thanks guys...every once in a while you've got to put the fat boy in place...lol...
ReplyDeleteIn his defense, he did ask if he was wrong and we all pretty much gave him an answer! :)
Totally off-topic, but does anyone know how ButterKwup was able to delete her comment without it having that Comment Deleted thingy? I want to know how to do that....
ReplyDeleteCan't stand her. But glad the baby is healthy.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy for them! As someone who has a friend who was a surrogate, and another friend with two boys through a surrogate, I see nothing wrong at all with their little tweet. I'm sure the emotions and relationships are far more complex than what can be summed up in, what, 140 characters? (I don't use Twitter). I'm just so glad that all has gone well, that their baby arrived safely and all are doing fine.
ReplyDeleteI agree with all comments. They both
ReplyDeleteThey both seem genuine. Wish them happiness.
DeleteUgg. Enty, I agree. These people are foul. I may give something like this a pass from somebody else, but these two are horrible. They'd get a lot more respect from me if they made a point of talking about why long term anorexics have a much lower chance of ever conceiving a child. Yuck. These two, just yuck.
ReplyDeleteHappy for them but I hope they cut back their work schedules to raise the babe.
ReplyDeleteI see where Enty is coming from, we obviously don't know the details but if the surrogate did not want to remain anonymous then they should have been the first the couple publicly thanked. We are making a lot of assumptions though.
ReplyDeleteNot a fan of Giuliana at all but I'm glad they finally have their 'family' Congrats to them.
ReplyDeleteThey drive me crazy...but I am happy this worked out for them. I'm 7 months pregnant now and I did feel a few twinges of annoyance that Giuliana is still the size of a toothpick and got to cover the Olympics while their bun was in someone else's oven...but that's unkind of me.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure she would have traded all of that for a chance to carry her own kid to term. I sincerely hope that someday she'll conceive again and have that chance.
So glad everyone agrees to let them have their moment.
ReplyDeleteWell, I can see both sides. On the one hand, who's this we? But on the other hand, I think she's being appropriately effusive as a person can be without actually having done the pushing herself. I cut her the same slack I would a father in the same position.
ReplyDeletewow...everyone is being so nice...with that said, i'm glad that it's a boy and might dodge the unhealthy body image problem that giuliana seems to have. hopefully, she will focus more on the kid and less on her diet, slip up and eat a french fry every once and awhile
ReplyDeleteI'm with Ice Angel and everyone else who thinks this is a mean-spirited post.
ReplyDeleteGeez Enty what is next on your ToDo list for today, taking candy from babies? Give the happy parents their moment, will you?
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Giuliana and Bill!
They totally get a pass from me. G has had some serious health problems and I'm happy her baby arrived and is healthy. Congrats to their new little family.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad they were able to get their baby before surrogacy becomes illegal in the United States.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like Bill tweeted this, so I see it more like a typical new dad being carried away.
ReplyDeleteMy partner was the same way. I had extremely difficult deliveries, so I did kind of gently tease him about "all this 'we' stuff." But he was so supportive, that I was happy to share as much of the glory as possible.
They didn't have much choice but to use a surrogate. I'm sure she was well paid for her services. The surrogate is not part of the family, that's the deal, so no, she doesn't deserve a mention. That's the choice she made when she became a surrogate and that's fine.
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of a mother will Giuliana make with her eating issues and body image issues? I actually saw a recent interview where she is planning to do Zumba in her living room so the baby can be "entertained" while she "stays in shape". OMG
ReplyDeleteI was wondering too if the surrogate was tweeting prior to the birth as these two attention seeking buffoons were.
ReplyDeleteThere's actually significant research that a baby is very in tune with its mother's emotion's while in utero. They are literally connected, surrogate or not. If it were me, I would definitely want the surrogate to be someone whom we all considered, and most importantly, considered herself, a loving part of this child, because I think the child can sense the presence or absence of that love.
ReplyDeleteJust my opinion, though, and I certainly have no idea what their arrangement is. I also wish them the best.
I'm happy for them, but not everyone is wealthy enough to hire a surrogate when they can't have children... I like to think I'd publicly thank the person that bought my child into the world.
ReplyDeleteI didn't delete my comment Cathy. It spontaneously disappeared after a couple minutes.
ReplyDeleteYay for a healthy baby! I do, however, hate the notion that the surrogate is just a nameless, feelingless incubator. They don't have to name her or out her publicly but a simple acknowledgement would've been very sweet.
ReplyDeleteI think Guiliana is an ass. A couple of years back she was producing a "Compete To Win Plastic Surgery For Your Wedding!!" program on E! and that level of body-shaming woman-hating "entertainment" earned her my everlasting ire.
my god enty, way to nitpick. ridiculous. why is it so hard to just be happy for them??
ReplyDeleteActually they didn't HAVE to have a surrogate.
ReplyDelete1) the doctor told her to gain 10 pounds so she could conceive naturally.
2) she only gained 5 pounds because she didn't want to be a big ole fatty fat McChubster which is omg! the worst thing on earth, obviously
3) they decide to do IVF and while doing the required breast cancer screening, discover she already had cancer
4) she has successful cancer treatment - yay!
5) they have a child via gestational carrier (their dna, stranger's womb)
TL:DR - she's the luckiest anorexic EVAR
@Hazel Yep. Pretty much this. Also, she's not well liked by anyone even the ones she claims to know how to "play the game" and aren't uptight and, therefore, her favorites. At best they're just very good actors to tolerate her inane questions but are groaning the 2 seconds before being in front of the cameras. A lot of them skip her or E! altogether.
ReplyDeleteThey have been on a campaign since day 1 to make sure America knows they used a "gestational carrier" and that the child is biologically theirs.
ReplyDeleteShe is having long-term treatment that makes pregnancy a problem-so I get using someone to carry the baby for them if her health is still not the best. I'm sure they were grateful, but I did get a very strong impression that they wanted to de-emphasize the baby-carrier's role in it all.
I am not sure why they care that we know that--it is obviously super important to them--and they share everything. I'm happy for them, but I would be just as happy had they adopted a child if they wanted to parent--it really doesn't make any difference to me how they got a child.
Hope one of them decides to take their asses off TV a little and actually parent and don't just drag the baby around on planes as a prop. They both seem to stay frantically busy and travelling all the time.
I'm glad they got a boy --I kind of get the impression he would have wanted to keep trying til he got a boy to carry on the family name.
I'm sure it was all filmed and we'll see it for weeks on their reality show.
Yay Duke, that's a cute name.
assholes
ReplyDeleteI don't think that forcing Skeleton Face to eat a cheeseburger so she can conceive is going to miraculously cure her or anyone else in that industry of their cognitive dissonance regarding body image.
ReplyDeleteFace it- the woman leads the most vapid, superfluous existence on Earth. What's her job, to talk about celebrity ass-kissing and style choices with Ryan fucking Seacrest like she's defending her dissertation on Citizen Kane? I can see how her priorities might get a tad warped over time.
She payed for it, and I bet she paid well - let her say whatever she wants.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm in the minority in thinking that enty's post was a little cranky, but not in anyway "mean spirited" or "hateful, spiteful and bigoted." It didn't seem he was making any value judgement on IVF or people who get it...it seemed the only judgement was of Bill and Guiliana.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm also in the minority that I kinda like Guiliana. She's very funny on Fashion Police (which, granted, is all I've ever seen her on).
Oh, and why (although not my style) does super long hair w/extensions look fine on Guiliana but like whore hair on Lindsay?
Haha Lola--I was thinking the same re: whore hair on Lindsay. She has a cameo on tonight's Glee repeat and she looked like a cheap trick.
ReplyDeleteMaybe osmosis, Lola? It's the phenomenon that is Lindsay. Everything she touches turns to whore.
ReplyDeleteAlso, congrats to these two! I don't watch E! and while I do agree she needs to eat more, they just had a baby. From what I gather, their journey has been a long one so why jump all over them for one word?
ReplyDeleteI lied. I watch The Soup.
DeleteAnother thanks to Ice Angel for saying exactly what I was thinking, but said it first and better! And Lola, I like her now too, and it's completely because of how she is on Fashion Police
ReplyDeleteI agree the surrogate should have been thanked. Carrying a child is not the same as a "babysitter for 9 months" which is how G and B referred to her. I think they would like everyone to forget all about the surrogate, except of course we cannot because G is still the size of a 9 year old boy. They also were only interested in adopting a child if that child was from Italy, so the genetics were a huge deal to them, and why is that? Shouldn't they be grateful for a child from any country if they wanted a child so bad? I find their enthusiasm to be fake and generated in large part for tv ratings. That said, i think when they realize that kids are not all designer clothes and photo ops, they will love the baby and provide a good home for him. (not crazy about "duke" though as I used to have a dog with that name)
ReplyDeleteThe egg was Giuliana's and she endured hormone treatments and major surgery to harvest it. Prior to the final egg retrieval she had at least 2 prior retrieval surgeries. She suffered a miscarriage. Not to mention her double mastectomy and the ongoing drugs she will have to take to keep the cancer at bay.
ReplyDeleteGiuliana is entitled to be recognized as her son's mother without mentioning the surrogate who was paid to carry the child pursuant to a contractual agreement. There is nothing rude or ungrateful about Giuliana's behavior; and I am sure the surrogate was not only well compensated but well taken care of throughout the pregnancy and lavished with appreciation.
Obviously Enty does not watch G&B's show or he would know these facts and wouldn't have posted this insensitive and unneccesary item.
With all that being said--CONGRATS G&B!!! YOU DID IT!!! DUKE IS HERE!!!
Love to all.

Luckily its a boy or Guiliana would quickly have a girl subsisting on yerba mate & kambucha (sp?) tea. She insists its healthy, so don't tell me that wouldn't happen.
ReplyDeleteI generally dislike hate gossip, like whats been going on here lately. I feel like such an ass because with everything this woman has been through, I still don't like her. I have never thought she was pretty, to the point that I cant understand what shes doing on TV when shes so incredibly unattractive. I cant make myself do more than feel a little sympathy for everything shes been through and I cant make myself think she'll do more than carry the baby around a little so the paps get a picture before handing him over to the nannys. Ugg I am SUCH a bad person.
ReplyDelete*not that those are bad, but they are like 80% of her daily diet.
ReplyDeleteHer skinniness scares me
ReplyDeletei actually like her. the husband is a little much for me, but together i think they are cute. i don't watch her fashion police show, but i watch her on "E". what bothered me is how the woman who was carrying the baby kept being referred to as a "gestational carrier". why is that important? this is simply their child. the biology or gene pool are not important. saying it was a "gestational carrier" over and over made it seem as if the most important thing to them was not to be parents, but to reproduce. and since they seemed SO opposed to adoption as well, it was kind of off-putting.
ReplyDeletehere is their comment earlier "She is giving us the greatest gift we're ever getting in our lives," the reality star told People magazine. "She's so selflessly helping make our dream a reality. We adore her. Once we met her it was an instinct we had. We could tell she was a great person."
I cannot believe somebody wrote "I don't thank The Oven for cooking my dinner" O_o
ReplyDeleteshe's created your fucking baby!!
I'm pretty sure the surrogate was well compensated. Never heard of one who was paid less than $25K plus expenses. They have to think and speak of the child as their own. The surrogate is just a carrier, NOT a parent
ReplyDeleteThey thank her by signing the check. She has no right to expect more. She is not a part of their family.
Period. Plus, they have made numerous public statements expressing their appreciation to their surrogate. Entry must now this but is just being a jerk.
