Michael J Fox Getting A New TV Show

Although Michael J Fox scored an Emmy for his appearance on The Good Wife, he has not been on a show regularly since he left Spin City back in 2000. It is crazy to think back and realize he was replaced by Charlie Sheen. That was kind of the beginning of the comeback for Charlie because right after that, he signed on for Two And A Half Men which was roughly the actor equivalent of hitting the lottery. Anyway, Michael J Fox is headed back to television next season. A show is in the works which would be sort of similar to Michael's own life. Michael is on new medication which helps control his Parkinson's and allow him to return to regular series work. Apparently the networks are knocking themselves over to be the winner of this one and are willing to even give a series order without any pilot at all.

It's nice to be wanted.

Good luck to him.

Good for him. I hope the meds don't have adverse effects. He'll always be Marty to me.

Yay - crossing my fingers for a decent sitcom!

If you haven't read MJF's books, you should. You'll love him even more :-).

Even if this show isn't about teen wolves or time travel, I'm still there.

I love MJF! He is another one who has been to hell and back and keeps on fighting! A real life hero IMO.

Could he be the answer to the blind? I didn't read it very carefully though. I could see him saying no to drugs on his set esp after all he's been through.

And NOW I'm really leaving for work. But these posts are actually good today. I'm so bummed. Frufra, please send out the Himmmm signal. I will check in when I can....

That's awesome! I love my Alex P. Keaton.

His reputation speaks for itself, he doesn't need a pilot :) I hope all goes well for him :)

Is this the answer to a BI? Yay if it is:) I wasn't really into Family Ties but I love MJF in Back to the Future and the original Teen Wolf. He's an inspiration for the millions of people affected by Parkinson's and other maladies. A true class act.

I'll give his sitcom a try before even knowing what it's about. He is a brilliant actor and incredibly inspirational. Go MJF!

Great news! Not only is he a very funny and good actor, he's one of the few genuinely nice guys in Hollywood by all accounts. And a good husband/father to boot.

And isn't their oldest son a writer now? That alone said a lot for them as parents.

I hope this doesn't mean he will stop appearing on The Good Wife.

Can we just talk about the beautiful love story between him and his wife? Is there anything comparable?

He’s a sweetie and Parks is a bitch. But he’s an expert patient and knows what works, when and how. Great to hear that his son is a writer. Such a loving family. Hugs to him, and to all CDANers.

I look forward to seeing him back on tV.

Love me some Foxxxxx! He was great a few years back on Rescue Me. I'm happy he feels well enough to come back to primetime. Not to sound corny but we need folks like him to do what they do and show the world having a disease or "being sick" is not the end. Not by a long shot. OT I always think of Michael Zaslow-the soaps actor-he had ALS better known as Lou Gehrigs disease. He was fired from GL when it became noticeable. He was hired back on OLTL where he worked previously. They wrote the ALS into his character. He passed on soon after. I really feel his being on the show helped educate people.

This is great news and I will watch. Love him, love his acting and love his family. :)

I adore him. He was my first ever crush when Back to the Future came out.
Shows my age!

Long time lurked. First ever post.

Have always adored this guy. So pleased for him.

AuntJess, great post mentioning both Michael Zaslow and MJF turn on Rescue Me. MJF was so MEAN on Rescue Me, it was great to see him in a different sort of role. I look forward to anything he might do.

@AuntJess - I loved Mchael Zaslow - he was the main reason I watched Guiding Light.

So glad he found a medication that can help! I remember and interview with him that said Parkinson's was the only thing holding him back from more acting, but he would fight it and be back! He is! Good for him.

I just watched all the back to the future series. He really is a great actor, funny, charming and at the same time so innocent. :)

"He signed of for Two And A Half Men which was roughly the actor equivalent of hitting the lottery."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA REALLY?! Not if you're an actor who cares about their quality of work and not just about getting overpaid for making absolute shit.

Either way, MJF is awesome.

Tigercat said...

So happy for MJF! He's a class act all the way.

Amber said...

Jolene - every time you comment I get the song in my head for HOURS. Hah.

AuntJess said...

Thanks gals. I adored Michael Z on both shows. And MJF can still get it from me anytime!

This is great news! He's a fine actor and an even better husband, father and decent man.

Our doctor's P.A. is a twin for MJF,
we all call him Doc Hollywood.

This made my day. I love MJF and I'm so happy for him and his family.

His book "Lucky Man" is really good. I would watch him in a new show. I've wondered if he has some regret over Charlie taking over for him on Spin City.

I wonder if he got the brain implant instead of a new medication? My mom's friend just went through that surgery, and damn, it is hard core. But apparently it works miracles on controlling the Parkinson's symptoms.

Frufra said...

@Mooshki - I know he had brain surgery years ago, and tends to be on the cutting edge (no pun intended!) of Parkinson's treatment, so maybe, huh? I would imagine he would be pretty forthcoming about whatever he had done.

The irony in familt ties was lost on me when I was watching it in the 80's. I still loved it though. I thought about it 5 or so years ago and lmao.

Spin City is one of my all time favorite shows and the only show where I cried when it was over. And when I say over, I mean when MJF left. I can't hear Macy Gray's "I Try" without thinking of the end of that last episode and why he was leaving.

Starting at 4:30

@Mooshki
My husbands cousin had the brain implant surgery a few years ago, when he was 18. Not Parkinson's, but a different neurological disorder that causes uncontrolled movement and spasms. Hard core, indeed.
He then proceeded to learn how to use all of his extremities like he hadn't in years. (walking, writing, all sorts of small movements we all take for granted) It was pretty incredible!

Hey, I think we have Jasmine to thank for this!

Wednesday she wrote that reality stars like Taylor Armstrong were making her "want to find Michael J. Fox and Doc and find a way back to the days before reality tv let loose creatures like this into our midst. oy"
On THURSDAY, it's announced Michael J. Fox will be back on TV, like we've gone back in time! Jasmine, does this mean reality stars will be gone when we get back to the future? Apparently when you wish something the Universe makes it happen!

:)
