Reese Witherspoon Skips Money For Photos Of Her Son

Yesterday, Reese Witherspoon finally took her infant son out in public and the world got their first glimpses of him. For free. I am always proud of celebrities who choose not to sell photos of their kids, but at the same time if you come up to me and say, Reese could have got $50K for the photos and would have given it to charity, then you start to think. Is it exploiting your kids if you are selling the photos for charity? I think it comes down to whether someone craves that much publicity and I think Reese is happy just having her one pap photo a day. Yeah, paps just happen to wander across her path everyday. Everyday. I think sometimes it is not so much about giving the money to charity as it is the amount. Reese was not going to get as much money as Jessica Simpson. That has to hurt someone like Reese. So, even though she might have given the whole $50K to charity she is still going to be known as a person who got less than Jessica. When you don't sell photos then the amount of money offered is not generally known and you look like someone who is not willing to exploit their kids for a few bucks.

  1. That would be great if Reese took the high road, but Lainey posted this yesterday:

These are FilmMagic photos -- and they don’t “pap”. They’re being sold via Getty Images as “exclusive coverage”. There’s nothing accidental about them. They’re not cheap either.

  2. Jessica and Ashlee are making a special appearance at Macy's, South Coast Plaza tomorrow. Catch them in the shoe department!

  3. So, if we were a celeb we wouldn't try to get some of that money for a picture of our baby even if it was going to happen anyway by paps? Heck if I wouldn't.

  4. Or hey, odds are she wasn't trying to sell photos of her child. It would be very much out of character for her if she was shopping around to sell photos.

  5. I miss the days when celebrities HID their kids for fear of kidnappings, etc. I find this who pic selling so tacky.

  6. Am I naive to think that Reese maybe doesn't care one iota about Jessica Simpson?

  7. I'm with surfer. these "pap" photos are staged. bought and paid for. I've been working in entertainment too long, I'm jaded. those stars that you think are "aw shucks "and sweet are the most cunning when it comes to their brand.

  8. I think donating the funds to charity is still whoring out your baby/personal life.

Also, how much $$ would royalties really pay to a star from Getty images? Not quite the same as a US/People cover. Either way, I don't see the facsination w/ baby photos. It's about as interesting as a pic of running shoes.

  10. Enty alluded to what's being said surfer, he just didn't say it outright.
Now those photos ARE staged, but Reese picked the agency. The agency did not necessarily pay her for them, but any blogs or publications who wish to use them do have to pay, hence the expensive photos.

    1. Sarah, so Enty had to pay for this?

  11. I'm pretty sure Lainey outed the fact that the pics were from an agency that never paps. Meaning Reese called and set up the shoot.

  12. I would hide my babies away until they were 18.
As much as I love celeb kiddies (they are just so beautiful!) I would never thrust my child that far into the public eye. There are some sick, sick people out there and you never know who is watching.

  13. i love how everyone takes Lainey as gospel but questions everything about Enty...oh if you only knew!

  14. I don't get the Lainey love either. She's so full of herself, loves to name drop, and her writing style is so incredibly irritating.

  15. You have to assume there is a way to keep your kids privacy safe, but it seems like less and less celebrities give a shit to do so. They may claim its part of the job, but I'm pretty sure as a parent you get to decide where your 4 month old goes & if they get seen.

  16. Is this a blind reveal about the mom who schedules pap shots, and tells her kids not to cry?

  17. They just aren't paying much, they finally figured out we don't really care

  18. I love Lainey's analysis and think she articulates her opinions really well. I often feel that I gain a lot of insight into the psychology behind the celebrity industry and how the marketing/branding of it all works.

  19. I can't stand Lainey and her ass kissing and can't remember the last time I visited her site.

  20. I only visit this site.

  21. Not sure why people care whether or not a celeb has their kids photo taken or not.

    It means nothing either way.

  22. @Astrogirl, really? Me too! I have tried other sites that are mentioned here frequently but they are so not user-friendly to me (ahem-Dlisted), though I do like psychological insights @Rox, may have to try her.

@Nap and JSierra, to me it is first we, the consumer, and the media who have brought this whole celeb thing to a crazy level of public worship, and THEN celebs have adapted to their roles which thoroughly exclude them from normal society and simply raise their kids to be aware of and comfortabe with the scrutiny/power/privelage/invasion that is part of their daily lives...

  23. i can understand that the pics are staged :she keeps the control(she chooses when, where and how ) and now she's not harrassed by paps
It's less hypocrite that Bennifer&kids doing paps photo-op every day

About Lainey, she's totally hypocrite:who talks about LES MISERABLES since 3 MONTHS? who defended Jake Guyllenhal's straight sexuality during many years until ONE months ago? who wrote about Gosling during his long break? who is totally ambiguous about her relation with the celebrity?
A journalist friend said me that she probably paid by some publicists to defend their clients ou write on their movies

  24. "About Lainey,...who is totally ambiguous about her relation with the celebrity?"

    Bang on!

  25. If only we knew? Please clarify Jax - Lainey bugs me sometimes with her self-righteousness but usually think she's right.
