Blind Items Revealed

May 7, 2009

This is one of the more bizarre things I have ever heard. This male reality star is on an A list reality show. A recurring reality show with the same cast, not some random dude on Survivor. Anyway, this star carries a bag with him wherever he goes. That is not unusual. What is unusual is that he always keeps $50,000 in the bag with him at all times. Never more and never less. He doesn't keep it a big secret. He just always says it is if he ever needs to get away quickly he has the means. The question is why would he need to get away quickly. People have asked him. He always says, "you never know." What the hell does that mean?

Maksim Chmerkovskiy ( I hope he still doesn't do it.)

  1. Why not just carry around a card, instead of actual cash?

    1. The pretty ones are always sooo stupid. Leaving a trail is only a problem if you loiter at the ATM or cash register for an hour after the transaction!

    2. Ikr! I would worry more about getting mugged with that amount on me.

  2. Well I guess if he didn't want to leave a trail. Weird...

  3. If Kirsty Alley is chasing him and he needs to hire a private plane to get away, maybe...

  4. Actually, knowing people from Eastern Europe, this doesn't seem inexplicable. Or that odd, TBH.

  5. He's from the Ukraine. What Mari said.

The reason for having that kind of cash on hand for a quick getaway is if you need to go on the lamb for some reason, escape the country, escape extradition. If the FBI is after you then your accounts will be frozen, your family's and friends accounts watched closely, etc. It sounds odd to you and I to do this because we haven't done anything that would warrant us escaping the country on short notice. He must have done or is doing something extremely illegal to be holding that much cash constantly, just in case. I just watch alot of " I almost got away with it" .

If he's a normal, innocent person and hasn't done anything to warrant escaping the country then why carry around 50k?

    1. Because, as Agent said, he's trom the Ukraine.
A person is built from their experiences, and those of their family. If you never know when the Secret Police will turn up, or (pick your country) tanks might roll in, you have to be prepared. Even the people in Pripyat were told they could return in a week. Look how that turned out. Being prepared is smart not criminal.

    2. That was my first thought too @Mari. Those countries like Ukraine have seen a lot of upheaval, the people have probably gotten into the habit of always being prepared for the next one.

  8. I heard him talk about his childhood...scary

  9. I know someone who carries around at least 10k at all times and has for years. Her reasoning has to do with it going to be a cashless society...biblical stuff/something or other. This person is close to me and I worry about her running around with that kind of money.

  10. @MIK- he is from DWTS.

  11. It might not be that he is into anything illegal, but he might carry it around in case he gets into a tight situation with the wrong people and needs to buy his way out.

This is probably something he learned from experience. Or maybe I watched too much Dexter this season and have the Russian mob on the brain.

  12. Hmmmm...now where can I gets me some money for a down payment on a house ..where oh where?

That might be worth a drive to Hell-A.

  17. I agree with Mari, who knows with the Eastern European connection. I bet he has good cause, although I'd be as worried about traveling with that kind of cash. Now I'm thinking about Eastern Promises, I would not mess around with that mob!

    Ukraine. Not THE Ukraine. :\

  20. Kowalski, than you, my apologies:

"When the region formerly known as “The Ukraine” split off from the old Soviet Union, it declared its preference for dropping the article, and the country is now properly called simply “Ukraine.”

I wasn't trying to be nit picky, no apologies necessary, I just had no idea why you were all saying THE!!

  23. My friend's dad has an entire escape plan worked out for my friend and her brother if they need to escape America in case of social breakdown. Obviously that's a little paranoid, but it's not like he's a nutcase or anything.

  24. Why do we say "the" Ukraine?

    ReplyDelete
  25. We're totally going to read about someone attempting to mug Maks now.

  26. A friend does something similar due to kidnappings in South America. His mother was threatened.

  28. I always say The Ukraine, and have no clue why. I suppose I have heard others say it so often, I just picked up on it :/ I suppose if he had a troubled childhood in Eastern Europe, it makes more sense. Old habits die hard.

  29. Maks carries a purse . . . tragic.

  30. If the epic shiitake hits the fan money will be worthless. I'm hoarding the real important stuff, things people buy down here when mini-disasters hit: Spam and toilet paper. I shall be Queen of the Apocalypse!

  36. I've spent some time in Ukraine, so in a way I kinda get this. Lotta black market activity there - I was nearly mugged in broad daylight in Independence Square while traveling with my guide and his wife. 98% of the people there are super nice, albeit in a stone-faced kinda way. I inferred that it's partially due to that they're looking over their shoulder for that other 2%, who are likely connected to the black market and find moral boundaries to be more ambiguous.

FWIW, there are no indefinite articles in Russian or Ukrainian ("a" "the"). That's why they get annoyed when people say "the Ukraine". So yes, one is supposed to say Ukraine or Ykraina.

    Sorry, I'm a tenured grammar nerd. ;-)

Perhaps he carries that money as a quick payoff for mobsters / gangsters from his native country that pull kidnappings.
