The one thing I love about Elle Fanning's awful shoes (not just these, but all of them) are how age-appropriate they are. When I was her age, I wore awful, ugly, clunky shoes too. But I'd much rather she wore shoes like that than sky-high stilettos, which would make her look even older.

KPeony - no, I'm with you there. I know there have been interviews saying she's rather cold, but I was told that a lot in high school too, and I was just shy and didn't know what to say to other people. That whole covered-up DUI thing a couple years back was pretty sketchy, though. She's mysterious to me. But that could just be a function of the whole mystery baby daddy thing.
I wish I had been at that party too.

@greenmountaingal and @Frufra, I don't know what Justine Bateman is up to now (last I saw of her was a hilarious cameo in Arrested Development), but a long time ago I gave my dad a tear-off desk calendar with stupid quotes from famous people. The only one I remember was from her and it was something like, "Can't we just write what we want our taxes to go to? Like put 'Education' on the 'For:' line on a check?"

Look at all that shit the nanny has to carry! I also don't get why people hate January Jones. I haven't seen Mad Men, but in the few interviews I've seen her doing, she seems nice enough. I was quiet in school and was dubbed either a weirdo or a snob because of it. Turned out to be social anxiety, biotches! I don't think she should be deemed "cold" for not being talkative.

I do def think the ronaniah guy is gay, but I guess I don't get why it's so hard to believe that he wasn't actually catfished then just went along because of how dumb it would sound to admit that. I'm not totally convinced abt it either way, just don't get why people are so quick to say he had to be gay. We've all seen the dude, he's no Tom Brady, maybe he legit never had a gf before? I'd honestly be more prone to believe that MTV set this whole thing up because seriously catfish got ridic amts of free press over this whole thing, meanwhile I had no idea teo even had a gf or let's be serious, who he was, until this blew up over the Internet.

Doesn't make any sense.

DeleteOh no no, the January Jones hate started LOOOOOONG before that quote hit the tabs/internet. You could probably check out old ONTD posts about the show and/or her for verification of that.
ReplyDeleteI think it has a lot to do with her being an introvert, as others have said or alluded to. She also has the kind of face where if she's not smiling all the time, she looks like she's got her bitchface on, and blogs like this one tend to focus on the cold, bitchface photos rather than the ones where she is smiling. Most of all, though, in my opinion, people over-identify her with Betty Draper. Which is understandable in some ways because she doesn't exactly have terrific range as an actor. Make no mistake, I think she is beautifully effective on Mad Men. I'm sure other women could have played the part very well, but I think JJ is precisely the Betty that Weiner wanted, whether she is making conscious decisions about her performance when the camera's rolling or she just shows up and recites her lines when she's supposed to.
I admit, I deliberately avoid watching her in other roles because I worry I will think less of her as an actor if I do, and I don't want to mar what works so well for me on Mad Men. I root for Betty probably more than any other character on the show, and for January, too. (I do love me an underdog.) I really can't imagine anyone else being so perfectly Betty.

Did Enty blog about January Jones losing her hair? She announced that her hair is falling out in clumps from all the coloring and extensions. After seeing those photos of Naomi Campbell's bald head extensions scare the beejesus out of me!

ReplyDeleteElle Fanning typically dresses age appropriate. Dakota did too. I have no idea if they have stage parents, but at least they make sure their kids are dressed like kids. At Elle's age, I probably would've thought those shoes were chic and "high fashion" and would jump at the chance to wear them. In fifth grade I had tennis shoes with heels. I wore them everyday, and always thought I looked more grown up because of the heel on them. Tweens typically have lots of fashion blunders.

ReplyDeleteNOOOO! I never got my coat. By the time I decide on a style it will be either unfashionable or too hot in San Diego to wear it. Every time I compliment someone on their coat I find out they are European and bought it in their native land. AGH! (I like those puffers, but I also like the coats with faux fur around the hood)
Actually Jason's wife, Amanda, is the one pictured carrying both children and the bags, not the nanny. Quite refreshing to see if you ask me!
