Kailyn Lowry Says She Is Bipolar

Kailyn Lowry from Teen Mom 2 has given an interview and says that she is bipolar and that her mother is too. Kailyn says she discovered that she was bipolar when she was going to counseling following a knockdown dragout fight with the father of her child and his family. Although she has mended fences with the family, she wants to publicly apologize in advance for what people are going to see on television. “I just want to publicly apologize in advance to my fans and even though Javi and I have moved on from it, I want to say I’m sorry again to him and his family for letting my emotions get the best of me.  I know how humiliating that is for them, and I’m humiliated myself.

Kailyn says she is going to start taking medications to help treat her but has not yet. That seems strange considering the season was filmed quite some time ago.

  1. Good for her for coming forward. Hopefully maybe this could break the stigma of mental illness.

At least she didn't deny it and try to hide it from people.

That said, I thought this sh!tshow was cancelled?

  2. Javi isn't the father of her child

  4. "I just want to publicly apologize in advance to my fans.." Please tell me these people don't have fans.

  5. Who? I don't mind celebrity fluff but I do wish we'd stop pretending "Teen Moms" are celebrities or even somewhat well-known. The only reason I barely know the name of that one is because she's been splashed on the front page of newsstand tabs I see at the checkouts.

  6. Maybe she wasn't diagnosed at the time. Very big of her to come forward like that.

  7. I think what Enty is trying to convey here is she acted badly because she's a moron and didn't think before acting like a moron, and used the excuse "I'm bipolar" to justify her bad behvior!

The skeptic in me says this "diagnosis" is for a bad case of CYA.

  9. @Kpeony- I saw something about MTV wanting to cancel it because Jenelle is spiraling out of control and basically they don't want the blame and backlash falling on their "good" name.

Why not just fire her and cut her out like they did with Amber? I don't get their way of thinking but it's all just rumor at this point anyway.

I saw that exchange yesterday. Weird! It actually wasn't mango though. It was someone else but I don't want to throw their name out here

  12. Don't buy it. Advance PR apologizing and saying you're bi-polar, but still haven't taken your meds.

How about just apologizing - and taking your meds?

How soon until we start seeing more and more celebs (and reality celebs) blaming crappy behavior on bi-polar? They are not doing the de-stigmatization of mental illness any favors.

  14. So, was the fight with Javi and his fam (not the baby daddy), or Jo and his fam (the baby daddy)? I guess we'll find out soon! Either way, I'll give her a pass. Both she and Leah seem to have good heads on their shoulders, unlike the other two Teen Mom 2'ers

  15. It's bad enough MTV created "celebrities" out of these messed up kids... but do we really need to keep following them for any reason? She needs help, not national attention.

  17. I call bullshit. When my son was diagnosed, we started meds IMMEDIATELY!!

This lying slore is doing a tremendous disservice to people with real mental illness issues.

  18. I would like to know how long we are going to allow "reality" television to exploit undiagnosed or unmanaged mental illness (and addiction) because it drives ratings? If this were any other kind of disability there would be much hand-wringing about it. When do we start taking mental illness seriously?

  20. Thanks MTV for becoming the new Springer Show - every time you put something on the air. Nice job.

Um, I'm pretty sure if she's been diagnosed she would have started meds. Why did she apologize for her emotions getting the best of her, not saying she's working towards wellness? Strange but I hope she gets help. MH issues are terrible.

  21. Wait. Jo is her ex and child's father. Javi is her current fiance. Who did she get the fight with?

  22. Ew a taco shell...gross. I'd be bipolar and messed up too if I procreated with some wetback. Welp, good luck with your future of welfare, drug abuse and STDs. Hope you like burritos, dumb ass. No white man is going to take on you and your bean baby....estupida.

  26. I believe she could be telling the truth about her diagnosis. I suffer from Borderline Personality Disorder, which can be just as crippling and challenging as Bipolar Disorder, and I am 23 and was only diagnosed after a botched suicide attempt. Had I known about my condition and received treatment long ago, it may have saved me from hurting and scaring my family as much as I have. Most people (like me) refuse help for as long as they can because it is frightening to believe you suffer from something incurable that is largely out of your own control. Medication and therapy made and continue to make a huge difference.

Sorry for the mini-essay, just wanted to say all that, because I know a lot of people believe these clinical diagnoses are just B.S. Maybe these conditions ARE over-diagnosed (ADHD is a common misdiagnosis I have seen, but I do know real sufferers), yet they DO exist; there is absolutely some truth in the findings, and they are disruptive and painful for both the person suffering and those around. Bipolar folks especially tend to be impulsive and reckless when experiencing their manic phases.

  27. I don't think it can be said that Leah has a good head on her shoulders when she keeps getting pregnant and having one failed relationship after another. Didn't she get pregnant and miscarry after having the twins, and is pregnant now for the 3rd time? Her ex Corey seems to have his act together. From what I have seen of the other Teen Moms, the only ones I can commend is Tyler and Catelynn, they are the ones who gave their baby up for adoption and tried to finish their education. Although both their families are/were very dysfunctional they seemed more mature than their own parents.

  28. @888 (not a troll-free number apparently)

If you're such a tough bitch/bastard, why don't you go post with the big bitches and bastards on a White Power board instead of a general celebrity gossip board?

  29. Leja - So very glad it botched and that you're here! Likewise, so glad treatment is making life better for you and those around you. Mental illness sucks, and it's terrible when it isn't taken seriously.

  30. NapAssassin -

It might be that Teen Mom is worse than Springer. On Springer, they only get a few minutes and a trip to CT; Teen Mom gives them a whole season.

It makes me mad that Teen Mom is so awful it makes me defend Springer! I hate them both!

  32. This girl has had a really crappy life--a horrible childhood and seemed never to have a single person who loved or took care of her in her own family.

Her mother is a shitty mother and maybe this is some kind of excuse for some of the crap she has done.

I hope if this is true that she gets some medication that helps her--I always felt bad for her--it always seemed like she was just a kid and having to be taken in by other people because her own family was so bad was really hard for her.
