Howard Stern Might Replace Jimmy Fallon
A lot of ifs in this statement, but if Jay Leno can finally be kicked off his royal throne at the Tonight Show and Jimmy Fallon takes over for him, then it is possible that Howard Stern might replace Jimmy Fallon. That is the word from his wife anyway. It definitely would be a different format than it is now. I like what Jimmy does in Late Night and he can move that to The Tonight Show. I'm guessing Howard would bring his entire radio crew with him and replace the band with strippers. Would there be sketches? He can definitely interview people, but he would not be able to just ask anything. At least on the NBC show he would have to kiss way more butt and not ask a lot of personal questions if he wants to make sure he has a full stream of guests and not the same ones repeatedly. Of course, Conan could also stage a coup and take over the entire network.
Howard is meant for the radio. Please don't go Howard! If anyone does listen to his show, I think the Robin songs they play before she reads the news are the greatest, if not flithiest things ever. I'm so obsessed with them, I listen to them on youtube all the time. Its also where I listen to Howards show!

Delete@FSP - reading this makes me mad for Conan. I hope he's happier now after escaping from NBC.
@dia - he was done so wrong.
Delete1 comment and 1 question.
ReplyDelete1. Why do late-night hosts have to be replaced when they leave? I don't get that process. If ratings suck for a regular show, it's cancelled, but these late night shows will tank in the ratings, but if the host leaves, he must be replaced. Makes no sense.
1. Jimmy Fallon reminds me of a Chihuahua, a shivering, hyperactive, nervous mess. I'm sorry.
Oh, please. They'll have to pry the Tonight Show from Jay's cold dead hands. And even then he won't let go. He'll find some way to haunt the set and make the cameras cut out
ReplyDeleteLove Howie, but not too sure about this move.
ReplyDeleteI nominate Arsenio Hall to replace Fallon because I don't like Howard's wife.
ReplyDelete@Agent- yes!! I like your theory! Sadly I don't even think Jay will leave. He's such a lil diva about leaving.
DeleteLeno is going to leave the Tonight Show in a casket.
ReplyDeleteStern has the face for radio. He needs to stay there. He's attempted TV with very miserable results in the past.
Where is Arsenio Hall? I thought he had a show coming out.
Arsenic would be awesome!
ReplyDelete@gmg, lol your typo is hilarious
DeleteArsenic! That sure is right.
ReplyDeleteI agreeJay Leno and his chin aren't leaving anytime soon. I love Stearn on the radio because he is not restricted from asking the hard questions to the guest.
ReplyDeleteFor all those inquiring; Arsenio Hall show is due to air this fall.
I really, really don't want Jimmy to get The Tonight Show right now for one reason, as many of you have stated above. Jay Leno will leave TV when they roll over his dead body and pry it from his cold, dead hands. I don't want Jimmy to be caught in the same situation as Conan was!
ReplyDeleteThat was BS, what Conan had to deal with. I haven't liked Leno since. I'm not a Fallon fan, but that will royally suck if he has to deal with that shit too. I will definitely turn "team Fallon".
ReplyDeleteWOOF! Woof! Woof!
ReplyDelete+1 for Arsenio Hall.
Howard of today isn't the Howard of the 90's. He is a much more insightful, less shock value entertainer.
ReplyDeleteHe is already in semi-retirement. He only works 3 days a week on his show. He does AGT becuase it is fun. Not for the money or the tv exposure.
Im sure he would love to stick it to Leno and take over the 1230 slot to force him out since they hate each other.
But Howard is in semi-retirement now. He isn't going to take on the monster of a late night show and all the hours it takes to get it going.
But it is a nice F U to SiriusXM which he is suing for breach of contract for not honoring the clause in his contract he is due a bonus decided on by the Board of Directors. Once Howard leaves there will be a mass exodus of subscribers including myself.
I love love LOVE Howard Stern! I miss being able to listen to him on the radio and seeing his show on E! And I only started watching AGT because he's on it.
ReplyDeleteHEY NOW!
Thank you Mayor Timebob, very eloquently put. Do you happen to know what happened to Robin? Someone told me about her illness, but know one knows what it is. Is that correct? Anyone know?
ReplyDeleteI don't listen since he went to Sirius.
My birthday present to my hysband years ago was Sirius because he HAD to get his Howard fix, so altho I myself don't listen I've heard a lot from him listening. Howard is actually a great guy, and IMO he's the best interviewer there is because he really listens to the others and they have real back and forth conversations. However middle America is not going to even give him a chance.
ReplyDeleteAnd ever since that kindness about Beth I like her a lot. She also does a TON of work for prevention of animal abuse and rescue.
@rejectedcarebear I also love the Robin songs - my favorites are by Eli. He is the funniest (on twitter too!)
ReplyDeletei LOVED the Arsenio show back in the day! WOOF woof woof!!! Didn't know there was a new one in the works, so yay!
ReplyDeleteJay sux and yeah, they'll have to pry that show from his unfunny corpse hands. I miss Johnny.
Leno won't leave. Hahaha @ the Arsenio Hall mentions. My absolutely favorite talk show moment was from his show. He walked out after being announced, slipped, fell and SLID a good 5 feet. Even he was laughing about it and throughout the show the editor or whomever would just show it over and over as he was interviewing guests, cracking him up all over again. I need to see if I can find that on youtube.
ReplyDeleteI loved Arsenio! Remember when Clinton came on and played the sax? I played the sax in HS and that was so very cool to me.
ReplyDeleteI can't stand Leno. Adore Fallon, Conan I can take or leave (I think he's funny but I've heard he's a complete tool), love love love my Scottish funnyman, Mr Craig Ferguson.
Stern has sucked ass for years, and he would never do this so it's bullshit. I love the comment up there about him being 'insightful' now. Come on. He's a liar and a fraud.

ReplyDeleteLove my Howchie, I listen every day and have for about 20 years. The Mayor summed up the show perfectly, and I agree that it is doubtful that he would go back to more working days at this point in his career.

ReplyDeleteIsnt a big part of Howards thing getting women in a darkened studio, getting close to the mic, and asking them in a deep intimate voice about their sexuality, sexual past, experiences, and getting people to spill way more than they usually would? How in the hell is that going to translate to mainstream t.v with Pepaw and Memaw from Wisconsin in the audience?
ReplyDeleteHoward dislikes Jay so I wonder who started this rumor.

ReplyDeleteI love Howard & have listened to his show for over 20 yrs. I never found the taping of his radio show on E! as appealing. He did however, before that do a show where it was only him and the celebrity that he was interviewing that week and it was fascinating. Howard can get anyone to say anything. I would watch a late night show with him as host.
ReplyDeleteI believe Robin had a large tumor on her bladder and as a result, she's been broadcasting from her home for at least six months now. I really hope she's okay. :( They don't talk about it.
ReplyDeleteI vote for Joan Rivers. She was way better on Carson than she is talking smack about fashion.
ReplyDeleteJay will never leave and Howard will not play well to middle America. If this comes true I'd be very, very surprised.
ReplyDeleteHoward might take it if LOTS of money is offered up front so when he bails out obscenely early after complaining about the grind, he'll be OK
ReplyDeleteOh man, I never missed a night of Arsenio back in the day. Loved him! *woofwoofwoof*
ReplyDeleteTo those who mentioned not liking Howard's wife, is his wife on his show? And why don't you like her?
ReplyDeleteThere you guys go again with the same old BS.
ReplyDeleteLeno didn't do a damn thing to Conan.
It was NBC & only NBC that orchestrated that disaster.
Leno did exactly what the NBC suits wanted, because his contract had a $145 million dollar payout to him if he was replaced without getting a new NBC show & it was NBC's option to keep him, he couldn't just leave.
NBC wouldn't let him go & then get all that money & then get hired by ABC which had already made him an offer.
So Leno was stuck doing that crippled 10 PM show, crippled because the NBC suits also prohibited anyone that had been on Conan or were going to be on Conan for a month before & month after blackout period from going on Leno's 10 PM show.
So Leno had no guests worth watching, lost a bunch of his writers, so he ended up with lame ass sketches that everyone hated & had atrocious ratings.
And the reason NBC demanded he take the 10 PM show was that the network didn't have enough scripted dramas for the time period, so they desperately needed something to fill one hour a night.
But the low ratings killed the ratings of the local news that followed & cost the affiliate station millions & they demanded a fix & that fix was getting rid of Conan, whose ratings also stunk, because he stupidly wrecked his own show by dumbing it down & making it bland in a bizarre attempt to attract a bigger audience.
But that backfired & actually lost him his most loyal fans, who hated the new 11:35 show.
So NBC's idiotic machinations cost them the $45 million they paid out to Conan, hundreds of millions in lost ad revenue, both for the 10 months of the Conan Tonight Show & continues to cost them ad money because The Tonight Show has lower ratings than before all of that mess.
Because Leno's ratings were steady & at their height when he was replaced.
And all of this was caused by Jeff Immelt of GE not getting rid of the goofs that ran NBC!
So now Comcrap owns all of NBC & they fired all the goofs!

ReplyDeleteAs much as I like Jimmy Fallon, I think he's going to fail in The Tonight Show. His weakness is interviewing. He's too goofy, too fanboy, and inserts himself a little too much. His strengths are his sketches and his games and song parodies which all favor the time slot he's currently in.
ReplyDeleteAs for Howard, I think he's one of the smartest men in showbiz. He has a face for radio, as it were, but I think he can succeed in whatever he wants to do. And he is a tremendous interviewer.
About Robin:
ReplyDeleteShe attended a wedding one weekend in Philly (I think) and had to go to the hospital when she couldn't pee for a day or so. They found a huge tumor on top of her bladder. She had been a big proponent of natural medicine in the last few years, but couldn't call Howard fast enough for a referral to a Big Time Manhattan specialist.
She was on the air for a day or so, then had major surgery. Since then she has been calling in from a home ISDN line, and there has been a huge crackdown on her health status. Stern SuperFans speculate that she had a hysterectomy, or cancer, or a even a stealth bariatric procedure to lose weight (ridiculous).
She has a new book coming out this spring and the Superfans believe some form of the truth will come out when she faces the media on her book tour.
When will she appear "in person" on the Howard Stern Show? No one really knows. Well, some know, but they're not saying.
Oh, and many fans suspect Artie is back on heroin, nodding out during his nightly Direct TV show.
That is all I have, folks.
Hey, Feed, you're good. That video of Artie was sad and disturbing. He has broken my heart these past few years, and I was hoping he was through the other side of his addictions, but it's pretty clear he's not there yet. Makes you understand why Howard won't have him back on the show.
ReplyDeleteIs Leno REALLY retiring? Or will he retire and keep popping up everywhere like Larry King and Regis? I get the feeling they regret retiring and miss being on camera.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure NBC will find a way to eff this up.
Yeah, lots of guesses that Robin's tumor must have been malignant and that she's been having treatment.
ReplyDeleteBut who knows - if her book comes out in spring on schedule, I'm sure she'll have to come clean then.
I think Beth O. is sweet, but possibly not the sharpest tack in the drawer. I love Howard, but I think it's too bad he went straight for the super-hot, sweet model he came across. If he was more confident, I think he would have been a good match for someone like Jimmy Kimmel's fiancee, Molly. An attractive comedy writer. I think Howard needs someone to challenge his intellect a bit, not just be sweet eye-candy for him. He will want more as he ages, I think (or maybe less, actually!). Clearly, I'm no psychologist, but that's my take on the Howard/Beth relationship FWIW. And I have spent waaay too many car rides analyzing it!!
