Rushed To The Hospital Was Phrase Of The Day - Justin Bieber & Kelly Osbourne
Yesterday there were two separate instances where headlines blared that celebrities were rushed to the hospital. In the first instance, Kelly Osbourne was actually kind of rushed to the hospital after suffering a seizure while doing Fashion Police. Contrary to popular opinion it was not because she stared at Joan Rivers too long. The seizure lasted about 30 seconds and Kelly was covered with a white sheet when she was put into an ambulance. A short time later she was feeling good enough to Tweet but is staying in the hospital until today at the earliest because doctors are trying to find out what is wrong with her. It is pretty rare for adults to have seizures isn't it? Unless some other outside factor contributes? I have heard of low blood pressure causing it. Maybe starving herself would cause that?
The other rushed to the hospital moment was not much of a rush. Justin Bieber apparently passed out during his show but got some oxygen and carried on until the show was over. You know, because he doesn't want to let down his fans after being late. Hmmm. A really bad PR week for Justin so he passes out on stage to get the shock factor and then after he finishes the show is "rushed" to the hospital. Not buying it. 12 year olds will though. He plays tonight.
You'd think they would time their drugs better. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat is going on with Kelly Osborne? I feel like every other week she's getting a new cast or going to the hospital for something!
ReplyDeleteJust say NO to drugs...
ReplyDeleteI can't help but think of how Kelly would look if she shaved down her jaw and chin. Also, her hair color is amazing right now.
ReplyDeleteSometimes seizures are the way a young adult discovers they have a chronic medical condition. I don't think it's fair to speculate it's about Kelly's diet. It could be ANYTHING.
ReplyDeleteLibby you are so right! The surgeon I used to work with began having grand mal seizures in his forties and he was definitely not using drugs.
Delete@VIP, I read that as getting a new car and giggled at the possible reveal. :b
ReplyDeleteYou defn can pass out from low blood pressure - btdt. I don't know about starving yourself, though - your electrolytes would have to get pretty low (like starving for a week and possible dehydration), unless you're prone to passing out.
Biebs, whatever. He got some oxygen and was OK to finish the show? That's just "not feeling well" and not newsworthy. Though I'd feel bad if he was actually sick and carried on because of the lateness debacle. Now I'm kinda feeling like the kid can't catch a break.
BTW - HAPPY FRIDAY, CDANers!
Agree with libster. Kelly cld have anything. Biebs you know its just way way way too much par-taying.
ReplyDeleteFor Kelly it could be diet, seizures can be caused by low potassium levels, which is common in people who diet. But it could also be anything.
ReplyDeleteJustin, not buying it, he "collapsed" back stage where only his people saw it. Total PR move to try to get some good press. I am thinking more dehydrated and he is exaggerating to get the sympathy vote for his shitty behavior earlier in the week.
He's already tweeting sharpei-face pics from his incubator at the hospital. I think he'll survive.
ReplyDeleteI never suffered from seizures until I turned 27-28 and found out through lots of testing for other things that I was having blackout seizures and the neurologist said I was on the verge of having a full blown seizure if I didn't get my dystonia under control. I always thought it was just low blood sugar and I needed to eat. Dr said it probably had been going on since I was 16 when I actually did faint( I was working at Walmart, passed out and hit my head on the scanner right in front of a lady. Poor woman nearly had a stroke).
ReplyDeleteI hope Kelly is okay. Seizures are scary. IMO.
ReplyDeleteHappy International Women's Day to all my sisters out there!!! =)
Bieber is such a tool.
ReplyDeletewas this the blind the other day about doing heroin and not eating?
ReplyDeleteWhen I hear sudden onset adult seizures, I think brain tumor. Hope not.
ReplyDelete@figgy - me too :(
DeleteThe picture of the "sick" Justin on Dlisted is fucking hilarious. He's even trying to look sick- half nekkid and posing sideways with a weary smile. Give me a break. Scrawny whiney little brat.
ReplyDeleteI hope Kelly's issues aren't serious.
I know someone who discovered he had diabetes through a seizure. He should have been paying attention to the other signs, but he was naturally VERY thin, so he dismissed them. And it caught up with him.
ReplyDeleteExact same thing with my family member, also very thin. It was scary, she had her first seizure while driving. Remembers nothing of it, it's a miracle she was not hurt or anyone else.
DeleteMmm nevermind, you guys are pretty convinced the heroin blind was about Nicole Richie.
ReplyDeleteSeizures are serious...my friend had one once because she was mixing different medications.
ReplyDeleteon a not so serious note, happy friday! here's a hystericalwakeup prank compliation.
Ugh, Beiber. I would love a Beiber-free 2013-3013. I hope Kelly is alright and it's just a one time thing.
ReplyDeleteThis is totally off-topic, but I was don't think it it will ever BE on topic unless there's another reveal. Does anyone else think it's interesting timing that Taylor Hanson's wife is featured on People.com talking about their daughter after the blind item was revealed about them last week?
Natalie Hanson: Why We Named Our Daughter Wilhelmina
It's 99% nothing, but I didn't hear about Hanson for a good year & now they're in my radar twice in one week.
I've never heard of low blood sugar causing seizures. I have it and it causes fainting, not seizures. The most common medical causes of seizures would be a brain injury, brain swelling or bleeding, fluid pressure in the brain, infections such as meningitis or encephalitis, brain tumour, epilepsy, blood clot(stroke) or aneurysm.
ReplyDeleteLow blood pressure can cause seizures.
ReplyDeleteLet the downward spiral begin for Mr. Bieber.
ReplyDeleteI do hope Kelly is OK. Seizures are no joke. Scary shit.
So glad it's Friday, this has been a hell of a week. Have a great day CaDNers!
Mine were caused by sudden withdrawal from medication. I'm not saying that is what happened to Kelly but just throwing it out there.
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday to the CDAN world! Time to start the weekend!!!
ReplyDelete@dia- TGIF! Now where are those cocktails? ;)
DeleteWe really need to create and brand our signature cocktail! Think of the $$$, I mean happiness, yes happiness we could bring to others!

ReplyDeleteI really hope Kelly is okay. :-)
ReplyDeleteJustin- I don't know how true the whole "collapsing" backstage is. :-/
According to the diabetic assistance program Islets of Hope, someone having a grand mal seizure could call out, pass out, fall down and injure themselves. (I'm diabetic, as are many of us readers.)
ReplyDeleteMayo Clinic info: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/grand-mal-seizure/DS00222/DSECTION=causes
DeleteI had to go to hospital yesterday too. Suffered an allergic reaction to something and have a swollen tongue and face. I'm fine but that's the real news. Move over, Justin and Kelly (maybe they could make the sequel to the American Idol film?)
ReplyDeleteAll that purple haircolor seeping into Kelly's scalp.
ReplyDeleteI have several friends who've had seizures. All were in their early 20's when they first had an episode. Two were diagnosed with epilepsy while my other friend will never know why. From what they've said, it's really hard for doctors to find out exactly why a seizure happens unless they get lucky with timing the tests.
ReplyDeleteAnyways- hope Kelly's ok. Grand mal seizures are frightening for both the patient and anyone whose nearby. Oh- and Bieber can suck it!.

ReplyDeleteI have a problem with fainting due to low blood pressure. It's called orthostatic hypotension. Basically, I sometimes faint when I stand up due to a sudden drop in pressure. Not much you can due to stop it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the others re: Kelly, seizures are frightening and this could point to an unknown medical issue.
ReplyDeleteAs for the BEibs, perhaps he shouldn't have tried hotboxing himself in that dumbass mask he had on the other day? Lack of oxygen to his brain and all!
My daughter fainted and had a seizure when she was diagnosed with mono. Scared the shit out of me, but she is fine.
ReplyDeleteMy friend has seizures and doctors don't know why. One time he was doing his business in a public toilet, when a full-on seizure came on. When it was over, his body had flung itself in that little tight space and he ended up with a broken collar bone and hand. The good thing is that no, he didn't make a mess on himself, but the other restroom patrons where like WTF? and where the ones who helped him. Pretty admirable considering his pants where down to his ankles. He looks back and laughs about it. Crazy stuff!
ReplyDeleteAlso chiming in to say that seizures are 1) serious regardless of the cause and 2) there are many reasons they happen that don't involve extreme dieting and/or drugs/withdraw etc. Like others, a diabetic friend routinely had them (he took particularly poor care of himself). And I once had one a few hours after I got a concussion from hitting my head on a cabinet corner.
ReplyDelete@Diva..Those wake ups were awesome!
ReplyDeleteNever mess around if you have seizures. They are almost always a sign of something and better safe than sorry.
Whether the Lesbeaver really passed out is another thing altogether. I'm suspect.
drugs
ReplyDeletethe beebs is in the daily mail today checking out of his london hotel. his thug is holding him back from grabbing a photographer, while he screams "i will fucking beat the fuck out of you". so i guess he has his strength back.
ReplyDeleteBieber is as big of a waste of space as a kardashian.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand why celebs get taken to the hospital for "exhaustion." Seizures are one thing, but unless "exhaustion" is really code for "close to OD'ing on substance of choice," why do they get to go into a hospital whereas any of us would be told to "go home and follow up with your primary care doctor." I've had plenty of things far worse than exhaustion (for example, meds that made me feel like I was having a heart attack, a surgery where I was projectile vomiting afterwards and the doc wouldn't see me), and have always been dismissed perfunctorily. Hearing that celebs get to rush in and out of the hospital for NOTHING (BIEBER, I'M LOOKING AT YOU) really sets me off.
ReplyDeleteKelly: drugs and starvation
ReplyDeleteBieber: drugs and p.r
I'm reserving judgment on Kelly and hope she's better soon.
ReplyDeleteDidn't Bieber show up an hour and a half late to a performance earlier this week? And the recent pics I've seen of him show a shit faced scrawny kid.
The clock is at 14m 58sec for him.
My inner 8-year-old wants to accuse them of kissing each other, and catching cooties.
ReplyDeleteBut my inner old-ass-old hopes they make full recoveries... cooties are the devil!
I'm wondering how they will deal with Kelly's seizure on the episode of Fashion Police tonight. Will they come back from a commercial break to an empty chair, or will they reshoot the episode and toss in Melissa Rivers as a stand in?
ReplyDeleteI hope Kelly is ok as seizures are terrible. My son is an epileptic and they can be terrifying.
ReplyDeleteAs for Beiber, I think the brat is just wanting poor me press.
Its all that Damn weed he passed out
ReplyDeleteIf you're the bottom bitch of a bunch of rappers, you might be a little butthurt (lol) too. Especially if you've now got AIDS or something. The CDC statistics by race aren't encouraging, Biebs...especially for down low brothas. Hope it's worth it.
ReplyDeleteI started having seizures at age 20 after i had my first son, and then went on to get diagnosed with epilepsy. There wasn't any "outside factors" that i know of, so Kelly has my sympathy.
ReplyDeleteBulimics can suffer seizures caused by by dehydration, hyperglycemia or ketoacidosis.
