The World Wants A Moderate The View
Earlier this year, in what seems like something straight out of Office Space, The View brought in consultants and did polls and secret panels to find out exactly what their viewers thought of the panel. Excluded from any of this was Barbara Walters because she is Barbara Walters and none of the viewers who were asked were quite sure if she was alive or a robot brought in some mornings. What the study did find and what was widely reported was that people had a strong dislike for the conservative views of Elisabeth Hasselbeck. This led to the speculation she was being fired, but will probably just move along elsewhere. The same number of people had a strong dislike for Joy Behar and her liberal views and as you know Joy decided to leave the show. So, what does this mean for The View going forward? No one will ever be allowed to give any opinion on any subject that is not universally agreed to and polled beforehand.
How boring. Isn't that the point of the show? To get differing points of View? How is that going to be interesting if one of them brings something up and everyone just nods and smiles and says, yes, yes that's right, I agree??
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the Bobs are still getting work.

ReplyDelete"I have people skills, damn it!" Thanks, RCB & VIP for getting Office Space stuck in my head. lol

ReplyDeleteSorry, can't help myself! I know what I'll be watching tonight :)
I have a red swingline stapler..I always have Office Space on the brain.
ReplyDeleteI also have a similar work ethic to Peter. I played solitare and ate cookies today instead of doing work.
I like to play mahjong.!! Ooo, what kind of cookies do YOU have?
Delete@rcb - since I found out last month that I would for sure be getting laid off in May I have spent a lot of my working hours on CDaN and solving the mystery of who is Enty (which I think I have nailed and it isn't who I used to think it was, altough I'm mostly likely wrong and don't REALLY care but need something to pass the time).
Delete"PC load letter?! What the F*** does that mean????" :)
ReplyDeleteBahaha I quote this line often
DeleteI like that Whoopi, Joy and Elizabeth argue...it's fun. That's why it is called THE VIEW!
ReplyDeleteYou nailed it enty! No one is allowed to have an opinion anymore unless it fits the global standard of how you should think and feel.
ReplyDelete4 ultra liberals and 1 conservative not much of a view.
ReplyDeleteOh my heck, politics! Aargh! Me, I believe in equality before the law and limited government. But I have zero tolerance for the rightwing machine that took over the GOP decades ago. Its only goal now is to take money and put it into the hands of the rightwing chatterers, while pretending to advocate for balanced budgets and fiscal caution. Meanwhile, in 2001 and 2003 the GOP exploded the deficit and slashes taxes on millionaires and began ruinously spending trillions of dollars on foreign wars while destabilizing the economy at home. And they still talk the same talk and pretend to care about conservative financial approaches? Hasselbeck's idiocy was that she just repeated the talking points, one by one, even pretending that Sarah Palin was qualified to any national office. It was absurd.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, I kind of like Hasselbeck and I would gladly chill with her probably before any of the remaining ladies. She's smart, she's got a good heart, and she is a more nuanced conservative than when she was just reading the talking-points list from Fox that she used to read.
"I LOVE 'Kung Fu.'"
ReplyDeleteLet's all meet at Chotchkie's for drinks after work!!
ReplyDeleteMy panel of choice is The Five, but I do think they could use another liberal on there. I love Dana Perino and Greg Gutfeld. It's just a great panel, IMHO.
ReplyDeleteI've never been a fan of The View, but I really don't do morning TV.
like the great homer simpsons says
ReplyDeleteBOOOORRRR-INNGGGGGGGGG
who wants to watch a show of people ass kissing each other.
Yawn...
ReplyDeleteI am usually not home when this show is on so I care very little but I imagine most people would not be inclined to turn on the TV to listen to a group of grown ups arguing about this that and the other. They have their families for that. TV is an escape for most people.
ReplyDeleteWendy Williams had a good suggestion yesterday--and I think it might be a good idea--Stacy London from What Not to Wear.
ReplyDeleteTLC just cancelled that show and Stacy has been on a lot of talk shows recently--not just doing stylist stuff. She guest hosted Anderson Coopers show the other day when he was at the Vatican and she did a really good job. She's very outspoken and funny and she could do some of the fashion stuff Elizabeth does (but better).
I actually think at some point ABC will let Katie Couric's show go and move Katie over to replace Whoopi and to be the moderator and then Babs will retire.
ReplyDeleteIf Katie's show doesn't make it they will need a place for her to keep her at ABC. She can try to bring back some of the tone Meredith brought to the show.
It's kinda fun to laugh at Hassleback. I think if they all agreed on everything, the show would be dull.
ReplyDeleteWhoopi and Babs are not ultra liberal by any means. Sherri is a Dem but conservative in her christian values. Elisabeth is just a fucking wingnut job. Babs has never said if she is Rep or Dem but given her circle she is def Rep an conservative. Whoopi is actually more Libertarian than anything else.
