Your Turn

In this alleged Chris Rock/Dave Chapelle tour, who would you make open the show and who gets to be the headliner?

  1. Open with Chris Rock. Then at least the shows will start on time!

On a side note .. Clayton Bigsby is one of the funniest characters from a comedian. Ever.

  5. Can't they switch from night to night?

  6. Alternating headliners. I saw John Mayer and Counting Crows on a tour like this. Although at the time I thought it was blasphemy that the Crows should go on before pretty boy. I hated JM for that (and Your Body is a Wonderland -only slightly redeemed by having JLH in the video) for years, until my ex got me the John Mayer Trio album "Try!" That record is spectacular, even if Mayer is a douche.

    1. Try is fantastic! He is really talented, despite having shitty bedside manner.

    2. Lucas I saw from yesterday you're getting laid off. That sucks man. Sorry.

  7. Rock headlines. Better known. Chappelle special guest. Persinally i think chapelle still needs help with mental issues.

  8. Chapelle opens.
    Rock headlines.

  9. I think Chappelle opens. I've seen both, and Chappelle does kind of a lot of rambling. He's hysterical, but when I saw him last year it was a lot of rambling. Rock's set is way tighter.

  10. Chapelle to open and close, Rock can carry his luggage, maybe.

    2. I was speaking of Chapelle in his prime, before he was Oprahized (via Maya A.)

  11. That's tough they're both good. I have to go with Rock based on his Never Scared Tour. One of my favorites was when he said" How in the hell do men expect to find repectable women in night clubs dancing to a song that says "To the windows, to the walls, till the sweat drop down my balls, till all these bitches crawl, to all skeet skeet motherf_uckers."

But Chapelle had "I'm Rick James Bitch; I'm rich bitch." People are still saying that one.

  12. Chapelle and Martin Lawrence should open, since both apparently turn into gremlins after 9p. The evil kind, not gizmo kind.
I'm not a fan of Chris Rock's stand-up (seems one-trick pony) but I sure do enjoy the re-runs of Everybody Hates Chris. That's a great show.

  13. they switch who opens and closes every night.

  14. Hey nevermindthat, don't forget that "Cocaine is a helluva drug"

And if he brings Charlie Murphy along....It's worth 3x the cost of admission!

  15. Rock headlines. Chapelle is too unpredictable. You can have a show without the opening act but not without the headliner.

  16. Chris Rock should headline. O like Dave Chappelle but the way he dealt with his tv show still seems off.

    1. It rubs me the wrong way when people say this..he seems like one of the only people with integrity in Hollywood..why does the black man have to be " off", because he chose not to accept a boatload of money..u know there were serious strings attached to that money...they should alternate headlining

  17. Alternate to be fair. Rock headlines to go by seniority. They're both fantastic, the audience wins here no matter what.

Rock isfunny. Dave is hilarious. Rock opens chapelle headlines.

  19. OMG PLEASE LET THIS HAPPEN.

Bitch, I live in a fuckin trash can!!

  20. @ABlake oh hell yeah; Charlie Murphy would kill it.

  21. Chapelle is incredibly talented and hilarious, but I would not bank on him as a headliner after the last debacle. Rock has proven he can commitment - tours, TV shows, etc. You can replace an opener, but a headliner would kill a tour. Sometimes reliability has to trump superior talent.

  22. Absolutely love Charlie Murphy on Chapelle show! Chapelle should be headliner, don't even care if Chris Rock shows up.

  23. I'm about to go and Youtube some of Chapelles skits.
    Chicken and Racism is hilarious.

He starts by saying have you ever had something racist happen to you and you don't even get mad? You just go damn that was racist.

Chapelle walks into a restaurant in Mississippi and he is about to order and he say's "I'll have the... but before he could get it out the White waiter goes "The Chicken" Dave goes damn; how did he know; so he ask the waiter how did you know I wanted the chicken and the waiter says come on buddy now everybody knew as soon as you walked through the door you were going to order the chicken. It's a well known fact that down here Blacks and chickens are quite fond of each other. Dave said " I wasn't even mad just upset because I thought I liked chicken because it's delicious; I didn't know that I was geneticlly predisposed to like Chicken.

  24. Hahaha! He really is ON when he's on, isn't he? I still love the KKK one, where he doesn't realize he's black. That was classic satire at it's best. Brilliant, even.

  25. Chris Rock yes - Dave - UGH I hate that dude

  27. ..and Charlie talking about how Eddie wouldn't let him jump on his couch was AWE.SOME. I <3 Charlie.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Chappelle is a frickin' GENIUS.
I want him on my tv again, but I care about his sanity too much, KWIM?

^^Speaking of the awesome chicken anecdote, Chris Rock had a skit on a show (?) years ago, about how hard it was to be Black and buy a watermelon, how he got uncomfortable. So funny, and I know he's not alone! I've had friends say the same. Also about chicken.

  29. For anyone who never watched the Chapelle show, Charlie Murphy is Eddie Murphy's brother and just out of his mind. In a good way. He used to be a guest on Chappelle's show and would talk his head off about his brother and how Eddie treated him. Very funny stuff.
(sorry for the multiple posts, I just know when I see something about a show I haven't seen/follow it's nice to get caught up to speed on the conversation)

    Charlie Murphy 4evah!

  30. ....My only worry is usually when I'm super-disheveled, and buying all cat stuff...litter, treats, etc. I feel I look like a nut.

Also buying GIANT packages of toilet paper with cat litter too? That tells the clerk, 'Boy, are they shitting at MY house'.

I know it's silly, but still...Checkout clerk judgement.

    1. Libby, one time my husband puchased the following at the grocery store: tampons, Vaseline, cat food, and duct tape. (I gave him a list.) He said he was sure someone thought he was going to torture a cat - or a cat lady. LOL

  31. Nevermindthat: Never heard that but I am laughing my ass off.

I think these two should alternate but that's the Libra in me. Like them both but Chapelle is definitely edgier.

Rock's more exciting and brassy, Chapelle is more quiet slow burn, open with Rock.

  33. I saw Dave a few years ago, a few months after he got back from his Africa trip. He had a temper tantrum and walked off stage after about 45 minutes. I was upset because I paid a lot of money to see him but regardless, Id go again.

I also had a friend who lives in the same town as Dave, she said he was super nice but wouldn't smoke with her.

They should alternate headlining. It'll be a great show no matter when the preform.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I love Charlie Murphy. The Rick James and Prince stories still make me wet my pants.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Leah....PERFECT!

I am embarrassed too when I buy tampons and Advil at the same time....it's like oversharing. UGH.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Leah...you reminded me of Homer Simpson buying illegal fireworks (a scene inspired by "Summer of '42" movie):

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqfxmWbelcQ

I'll just say that Marge's reaction to his purchases is, "Homer, I'm not sure what you're planning for tonight, but count me OUT." Or some such. Funny!

  37. Hahaha Libby, I love it!

  38. I sent my ex into the grocery store once to buy tampons for me while I waited in the car. He walked out (right as luck would have it when a bunch of my male co-workers pulled up) and yelled "IS THIS THE RIGHT BRAND ABLAKE?" as he waved the box in the air and I tried to hide under the seat. "BECAUSE IF IT ISN'T THE RIGHT BRAND I CAN GO IN AND EXCHANGE IT FOR A DIFFERENT BRAND"

    ex- 1
    me- 0

I never asked him to do that again.

  39. dont care who but im there

  40. Chapelle should bring Charlie Murphy AND Wayne Brady! Can't they co-headline? I think Rock's standup is great so I'd be happy to see them together in any way they can make it happen.

    ReplyDelete
  41. ABlake, LOL, with tears !!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Chris Rock hasn't been funny in years. Dave's the headliner all the way.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I say yeeeeeaas either way!!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Who cares. They're both well past their prime.

Dave's shows aren't so great these days, since he doesn't even bother to write jokes anymore. He just sits there smoking and riffing with the audience. He's still funny, but only a fraction of what he was.

BTW, Charlie Murphy's stand-up is pretty bad. Not many people would pay to see him twice.

    ReplyDelete
  45. No way would I ever see a Chris Rock headline tour. Dave is the superior comedian in every way. let Chris open.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I like the alternating idea, because they're both hysterical and superstahs (OMG Alicia. Clayton Bixby - my favorite sketch too)

I will never forget being in the checkout at Target right after having my first kid. The girl in front of me was buying wine, condoms and lube, whilst my basket was full of nursing pads, nipple shields and baby bottles. I kinda chuckled and said "looks like your night is gonna be waaay better then mine". She turned bright red and I swore right there that I should only share about 1/10 of the things that pop into my lame brain

    ReplyDelete
  47. The headliner would be Rock, with Chapelle opening for him. No brainer.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Dave Chapelle should get a MacArthur genius grant, cause that is what he is.

And Chris Rock was one of the few famous guys in Clinton Hill Brooklyn who would say hello to you on the street.

Soooooo.....I gotta agree with the alternating headliners folks.

  49. @Sunny - I LOVE that story! Hahaha!
