Halle Berry Was Surprised Unprotected Sex Could Get You Pregnant

I am always shocked when I hear celebrities say they were so surprised they got pregnant. No, they were not on the pill or taking any form of birth control, but still, they are always shocked or surprised. Why? Do they think their bodies work differently? Have they taken so much Adderall and starved themselves to such thinness that they think they don't ovulate? Well, ok, I think even medical science is shocked that Rachel Zoe or Nicole Richie got pregnant, but for the rest of the celebrity world, I am going to let you in on a secret. Unprotected sex can lead to babies. I know. Shocker. So, when Halle Berry gives an interview saying that getting pregnant was the biggest surprise of her life, I have to ask, the question, so you knew David Justice was going to beat you that bad? How is getting pregnant when you are having unprotected sex and monthly periods a shocker? Getting the crap beat out of you by your ex-husband should be bigger shock. Finding out Eric bent was a sex addict. That is a surprise. Hopefully. Having unprotected sex and getting pregnant? Go watch an episode of Teen Mom.

  1. In all fairness, Halle is 46 and probably thought she was too old to get pregnant (especially if she's starting to go through menopause.)

    1. Halles not that stupid. Shes diabetic--she has to go to doctors a lot just to keep it under control. I have two aunts who had the same diabetes she has, so i know what Im talking about. The doctors would have warned her to use contraception until she had went at least 12 months without a period,, then she would be officially in menopause. They would have also warned her against getting pregnant again due to the diabetes plus her age, it makes for an extremely high risk pregnancy. This witch got pregnant deliberately--its part of her plan to move to France, by claiming the paps (who I dont doubt for a second she has on speed dial) are harassing her. I hate this manipulative witch. As for her new baby daddy, I guarantee you that before their baby is out of diapers he's gonna be having the same drama that Gabriel Aubry has been for years--just wait and see. Halle is crazy.

  2. I think they used to call these twilight pregnancies, until some stupid girl got knocked up with a vampire baby.

  3. That's what I was thinking @StewMc. Enty how do you know she still gets her period? Do you have a source for that?

    1. Youre not in official menopause until youve went 12 months without a period. 12--not 2 or 6 or 9--12. Halles doctors would have told her that, trust me. Until 12 months have passed since your last period you can become pregnant.

  5. Maybe if she's really lucky, the baby will have her craziness, combined with Olivier's temper! (Bad luck, that is.)

  6. I did it too! My doctor said there was slim chance for me to get pregnant after 40, and I believed her. I totally understand Halle's point. Just read your comments section Enty to know people don't believe women over 45 can get pregnant naturally.

  7. If you're afraid you might get pregnant, use a condom (or some other form of birth control). Not a difficult concept.

  8. What I think is surprising is that she is alleging that not only did this happen completely naturally but that they weren't even trying! Have any idea how hard it is for a 46 year old (not to mention diabetic) to get pregnant on her own? Please. Her genes are good, but I don't think they're that good!

  9. As much as I dislike Halle, I will give her a pass on this one. I would be surprised if I was pregnant right now, we have been having unprotected sex for 4 years, over 40 you think it could happen, but never really think it is going to.

At age 40 your odds are 25% that you will get pregnant.

At 43 it drops to 10% and in just one year (age 44) it drops to 1.6% to conceive naturally. You have a 98.4% chance of not getting pregnant. Clearly the odd are in your favor of not getting pregnant.

  10. Well, if we are bringing David Justice into this, what about Eric Benet turning out to be a sex addict? That was more shocking than this.

  12. I think she was surprised due to her age. At 46 it is unlikely you'd get prego as fertility drops drastically after age 35, then even more after age 40 and even more past age 45. I think there's like a less than 10% chance. I had my last baby at age 40 and there was a 4 YR space in-between him and the one before. It took a long time!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Sometimes these things happen, even when condoms are used. It's less likely to get pregnant after 40, but it's still quite possible. It's the second age group with the most "surprise pregnancies" after teens.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Oh please; I don't believe for a second that this was an accident, let alone done the natural way. I'm sure she was at the very least giving herself hormone injections to increase her odds and I wouldn't be surprised if this were done in vitro. Surprise, my ass.

  15. Enty's write up was pretty funny, regardless of what you think about Halle Berry being pregnant at 46.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I too give her a pass. I do believe she had a hard time getting pregnant with Naila and thought it was never going to happen. So I could see her getting a little lax in taking precautions.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Hahaha oh Halle, when you feel the need to add to your press release about your pregnancy that it was 'totally natural' (paraphrasing here) it sends up all sorts of red flags.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I don't know if this was planned or not, good arguments for either side but no matter how unpleasant she is I hope everything goes well and the baby is healthy.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Susan Sarandon had 2 surprise babies, one at 46, and no one got up in her grill. It happens!! And while she may not have planned it, of course she/they were delighted because of fertility issues. Halle looks gorgeous, and as per DM, is embarking on some do goodery around the world. People can change, i wish her well. Oh, and if she could call Kim K and tell how to dress, that wld be golden. See Kim, it CAN be done- classy , elegant and flattering.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Please people! She is saying that so no one knows she is used her frozen eggs!

    ReplyDelete
  21. How do you know Susan Sarandon's pregnancies were surprise? Because she SAID they were.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Normally 46 year old women having babies don't tell the world when they are 12 weeks pregnant. She's claiming the baby is healthy - isn't that a bit early for an amnio? I know things are done earlier than when I had mine, but I work with people who were trying to get pregnant at around 38 and they needed fertility drugs and waited a long time before telling/confirming baby was on the way.

    ReplyDelete
  23. When someone starts explaining things that no one asked about (ie: how did she get pregnant), that's usually a sign that they're lying. Add to that her recent comments about "staying in LA until Nahla is 18" (again out of the blue), and I'm wondering if she's not going to leave her daughter to Gabe (not a bad thing) and move to France with Olivier and their son.

    ReplyDelete
  24. @Mikey: I had my second at 37, no assistance other than the usual way was necessary. I believe they can now do blood tests on the mother fairlynearly on to screen for Downs and get the baby's sex, rather than doing an ammio. Thank God, because that needle was really really long and the thought of that going anywhere near the baby (not to mention having to submit to it) was terrifying.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I bet she has started menopause ....but she isn't the first woman to get pregnant during the change I have an aunt who had her son at 53 (not a good idea).
What's going to be interesting is :
1- If she'll carry the baby to term.
    2. What Olivier will do if they part before or after the baby is born...I tend to think he'll go after custody and $$$$.
    Payback can be a bitch...

  26. @mikey I don't know of many people who would announce a pregnancy before the 2nd trimester to anyone but close family/friends. Most consider it tempting fate to celebrate so early. Very strange for someone who would be considered a high risk pregnancy

    ReplyDelete
  27. There is a lot of early screening done. She mostly likely had a CVS (chorionic villi sampling) it can be done at 10 weeks and does the same screening as an amnio. Since they know the sex, she had to have had that done as it is the only full proof way to determine sex this early.

    ReplyDelete
  28. She said she had to announce because paps were going to release the news. Roxie you may be right about sysan sarandon, but she had been told she could never gave children by her dr, so i guess she never bothered with birth control. Idk, some pregnancies seem engineered, some dont. I like the way celebs " naturally " get preg with twins- and its always a boy and a girl!! Think jlo, julia roberts, angela bassett and so on. I think they are full of baloney, but thats fine with me if they want to pretend they just luckey. I may hv done the same thing; its really no ones business.

I wish celebrities would be as forthcoming with fertility issues as they are with so many other things. Maybe it would take away some of the shame some women feel in not being able to conceive.

  31. Enty: spoken like a clueless male who has no idea what it's like to go through peri-menopause or menopause. Especially if she's had fertility issues in the past, there are all kinds of reasons why she thought she could not get pregnant.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I guess the advent of birth control in the lifetimes of just about every reader here has virtually eliminated the term, but there was a time when "change of life babies" were a dime a dozen... Many babies were born to moms way up thru their late 50s. Further, 46 is pretty early for menopause.

  34. I cant believe how well Halle is manipulating a lot of people here. Just get pregnant and get instant sympathy. Never mind the risk to the baby because of her age plus diabetes, but also the way shes tried to alienate her first child from her father. Now she decides to pull this shiz again with a new baby daddy and suddenly shes the Virgin Mary. Puh-leeze!

  36. I had unprotected sex for four years before I got pregnant, and now I'm on 2 1/2 years. So, if and when I get knocked up again, I will DEFINITELY be surprised. It was SHOCKING when I peed on a positive stick. I had given up hope.

Don't the experts say your fertility decreases as you age? So, that's probably why she was surprised. For some people, it's really not that easy to get a bun in the oven.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Freezing eggs for later use is becoming quite popular with celebrities.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I don't think it's unreasonable to be surprised that you got pregnant at 46. I'm not saying it doesn't or can't happen, but if it was me I'd certainly be very surprised. It just doesn't happen THAT often (naturally)

    ReplyDelete
  39. @Rickatoo, your ovaries are still cranking (mine too at 51), but they're not cranking anything that will get you knocked up. By age 46 99.9999% of a woman's eggs are completely useless. IVF doctors won't even let you use your own eggs at that age. I don't believe for a second that Halle's baby has a shred of her genetic material!

    1. Yes, age 46 tends to be the cut off age as the quality tends to be very poor. The fertility window is not what it used to be when grandmothers popped out children at 45 with no health problems.

      Delete
    2. IVF on it's own implies that there are problems getting pregnant in the first place, for any one of hundreds of reasons. Saying that healthy, otherwise fertile women over age 45 today are less likely to get pregnant naturally than in previous generations is ridiculous.

      Delete
    3. That is not what I am saying, Rickatoo. I am saying that the fertility window today, is not the same as in previous years.

    4. Shag, I'm sorry, but that's still a ridiculous assumption. Are you suggesting the human race is evolving to reduce the fertility cycle with each passing generation?

  40. Ladies (and gentlemen)
I am honestly not sure if it is doctor and public ignorance, or if it is information that is intentionally withheld by the fertility industry in order to make lots of money - but in the last couple years before menopause, a woman's body will ovulate more than once during a month. Sometimes two or even three times a month.
This is one of the reasons that women in their forties have the most surprise pregnancies after teenagers. It is also why you hear stories of couples who tried for years, gave up, maybe adopted or something then suddenly got pregnant.
If women in their forties actually did ovulation tests every day in those years they would see that - yes - there are lots of months where they have more than one ovulation.
Doctors don't educate their patients that a lot of times it's easier to get pregnant at this time of their lives than in their late thirties.
This Public Service Announcement brought to you by years of research and several family members and friends who got pregnant with happy healthy babies in their mid forties.

  44. Scratchy kitty have a little too much catnip this morning? THREE messages in a row about Halle? We all know she's crazy and if you actually stop and read the posts you'll see that most of us here have given her the side eye. If she's manipulating anyone, it's that squinty-eyed Gallic boyfriend of hers who hasn't realized that he should have run for the Alps months ago. If she really IS pregnant and it's his kid, it's a life sentence for Olivier. Poor bastard.

    ReplyDelete
  45. She's nuts, we all know that but what I care more about is the comment about Eric Benet, I think that whole sex addict story was a bunch of crap designed to make Halle look good when the marriage was in trouble. You know kind of like being pregnant when you're old enough to be a Grandma. Every guy she's gone through ends up being the asshole of the century? Nope, I drank the Kool Aid during the David Justice divorce, but those days are long gone.

  47. The real question is not how any woman gets pregnant after 40, but why she would want to...I was 35 and it darn near killed me. Until the factory is officially shut down, ALWAYS USE BIRTH CONTROL!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Yea.. the article I read she actually said she was surprised she got pregnant because she "thought she was too old". I mean your chances are very slim at that age. So I can see why she would be surprised. I tend to think this was a true accident because I feel like I remember reading an interview of hers where she talks about not wanting anymore kids.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I agree with everyone who's pointed out that given her age and health issues, it's not a crazy assumption on Halle's part. I might have assumed the same thing that she did.

But Xander, good info to know! I thought I understood basic biology, but that's actually news to me! Never thought about it like that.

My mom said the same thing that Cee Kay said, though! "Who wants a baby at FORTY-SIX?!" Hee hee.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I agree Maja with a J, I think it's pretty cool as well. Nothing wrong with waiting until you know you can afford raising a child etc. Besides, they graduate and you're 58-65? That's not 'too old' to be a mom. You're never too old to be a mom (just ask my 71 yr old mother.)
Also agree with Rickatoo and Xander.

No judgement about Halle's mental state (she's batshit) but I can understand why she was surprised. I wish her baby health.

  51. @ auntliddy Shame may not be the proper word to use and I'm not saying there is any reason to feel ashamed. but for so many celebs to pretend not to have this problem that so many people struggle with is absurd. They may not want to detail all of their struggles but don't go out of your way to lie about it

  52. MISCH <3

My mom had twins (my older brothers) in the 70's. Apparently the twin gene runs in families and skips a generation (given down by the mom) Please note I have no scientific articles to back this up, it's just what I've always heard.

My favorite story about that is that my brothers were born in late April. On Easter of that year she went to a Church event wearing a pretty pastel maternity dress with blue/pink/purple/yellow stripes (don't hate, it was the 70's) and an obnoxious little boy yelled "Look mommy, She's an easter egg!" while pointing at my mom.

  53. My husband was born in 1965. He was a change of life baby. His mum was 39 and his dad was 48. They already had 3 daughters and there is 13 years between the youngest girl and my husband.

As regulars would know, my husband & I couldn't have children. I have seen my friends have children in their late 30s early 40s and it is much harder on their bodies & they don't have the energy while raising them they had when they were younger. I think if you have children when you are older that you need to ensure you are fit, but that you also keep up with current music etc. My husband had a hard time because his parents didn't.

  54. Enty is right on this. If you have not had a hysterectomy or gone thru the change you CAN get pregnant

I totally agree with you. As a woman who had twins at 41, I'm still shocked at how ignorant people are about fertility. I know many women who've gotten pregnant past 40. I know I believed my doctor who said it was slim to none that I would get pregnant.

    @shag
You really need to get more information about what is going on with women's fertility. It's far more of independent cases than previously thought. There are women at 28 who have low fertility and women at 50 with high fertility. Each woman has to look at her fertility as an individual case.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I don't think it's shame that is keeping celebrities from discussing their fertility issues...I would think it's because it is a personal and private matter that they don't.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Granted I spent 100k trying to successfully carry a pregnancy...and had 5 miscarriages instead.....so I'm more than a little biased....but

I gotta call shenanigans on this "accidental" pregnancy at 46...it's more likely she used the frozen method.....

    ReplyDelete
  60. This wasn't an accident! She has been trying to get pregnant for YEARS. And please notice she didn't say she wasn't trying, or they hoped for this- just SURPRISED. YES, surprised it was finally successful. She was absolutely using fertility aids and froze her eggs a long time ago. She has serious diabetes and constant health issues. yes women get pregnant in their 40s, but drs consider 43 the semi- magical age where the chances go to less than 1%, while the miscarriage rate skyrockets, as well. After 45? Ridiculously rare. She is lying if she says she didn't get help. Which she actually doesnt say, btw. Just she is surprised and thought herself too old (that the treatments wirked, she conveniently doesnt add). There are only a small handful of women in history to ever surpass this age- EVER. yet, Hollywood would have people believe they happen to be those phenomenally rare genetic anomalies who defeat odds and science? Right, Kelly Preston at 48. Right, Halle at 46 with diabetes. You're doing a massive disservice to women by carefully cloaking the truth and feigning "surprise" that all your IVF or donor eggs or frozen embryos didn't play a part. Grrr.

    ReplyDelete
  61. "According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2008 there were 0.7 births per 1,000 women ages 45 to 49, compared with 9.9 births per 1,000 women ages 44 to 40."

Yeah, that's a small number, but it's nowhere near "impossible." There are approximately 20 million women aged 45-50 in the US, so that's 140,000 babies!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Why does she need to watch Teen Mom? Being that she's no where as fertile or at least didn't think she was as a teenager, it makes perfect sense that she thought her pregnancy year were behind her. She's not the first woman of a certain age who thought she was past getting pregnant and I assure you she won't be the last.

    ReplyDelete
  63. What PS said. Not impossible at her age, but I doubt this pregnancy was a "surprise." Especially with the diabetes issue. Your sugar levels have to be just right for a period of time in order to get pregnant. I know women in their 20's and 30's who are being advised not to become pregnant until they are at better levels. It is very risky to become pregnant without planning it when you are diabetic.
