I'm always fascinated by actors who express themselves primarily through one part for a large portion of their careers. You know, Yul Brynner syndrome. Is it frustrating, comforting or both?
Sympathy to family.
Poor Corbin and the rest of the family. I was never a fan of Y&R but the few times I saw it, I was mesmerized by her characterization of her role. She was phenomenal. RIP grand dame, you truly deserve it
My grandma loved that show. And yes she called the show her 'stories'. I remember Mrs Chancellor had these really wavy long nails that freaked me out when I was a kid and a gravely smokers voice.
RIP Mrs Chancellor.
Sad face.
Never liked Corbin Berson much until his role on Psych. Sorry about your Mom! :(
Corbin won me over on Celebrity Mole (With Stephen Baldwin)... he wrote some beautiful words for her yesterday.
I watched Y&R for a spell in the early '80's. She was always fun to watch in a scene. RIP Katherine.
The older characters on soap operas seem to just be wallpaper. They get the crappy storyline.
I remember watching that with my Mom when I was a kid. I used to love her (character's) feud with Jill. She was wonderful in the other parts I saw her in as well. She'll be missed by her fans as well as her family.
She'd been around for years before Y&R and was very hot when she was younger great legs...loved her...
Jeanne you had a great run...RIP.
She had them write plastic surgery into the storyline cuz she was getting some and didn't want to miss work. Now that's clout!
I've been watching Y&R for nearly 40 years also - started watching when I was just a kid at home on summer vacations. How many actors/actresses today do you think will still be working in their chosen career 40 years from now - rare do you seen anyone now with her dedication and talent. I loved her character and enjoyed her performance so much. RIP Jeanne... you provided so much entertainment to millions and will not be forgotten, or replaced. My prayers for peace are with her family.
frances reid played alice horton on DAYS from practically the beginning of the show until she died.
I watched Y&R when it first started and was fascinated by her character. (Gave it up for All my Children). Recently her autobiography was on sale on Kindle, bought it, was a great read - she had a really interesting life. Mr. B loves the Western Channel and says she was on a LOT of western TV shows before Y&R.
I watched a clip on Dlisted yesterday of her and the 1st Jill - I don't remember Jill having such a bizarre voice - like some snooty actress from 1930s movies. Was she really that strange?
Loved her-haven't watched the show in a long time, but she was a real character--both on the show and in real life. She seemed to have had a wonderful relationship with her children as well.
I feel like I lost my Grandmother all over again. RIP Duchess.
She was such a hot betch. This type of woman, along with Bea Arthur, Marla Gibbs, etc---the tough, smart broads---were always MY tv role models as a kid.
I used to watch this show with my grandfather, who called it The Old and the Reckless, and we loved her character.
I think this has to be the best job ever. Just a few hours a day, not much to learn or do, easy, big pay. Cool.
What shocks me more is that actors complain about doing the same roll for years when the vast, VAST majority of the rest of us are stuck in the same dead-end job our entire lives.
Give any of them the choice to continue working on their show for the next twenty years or a decade in fast food and we'll see how happy they are for the acting gig.
I'm saddened by the news. I adore Jeanne Cooper. She's an amazing actress. She IS the Young & the Restless. I don't watch it anymore like I used to back in college. I just can't imagine that show w/o her. Y&R will never be the same without Jeanne Cooper. RIP JC/Mrs. Chancellor. We love you.
Yesterday was a sad day...I cried when I heard she had died and I cried again when I went to bed. I loved her on The Young and the Restless. I have been watching Y&R since I was a little girl with my grandma.
Rest in peace, Duchess.
This show was a family favorite in my house when I was growing up my mom would tape it for me and my brother and we would watch it after school. Such good memories and she was my favorite her and victor
I watched in high school back when Snapper was the hottie of Genoa City. Since AMC was cancelled I've been watching Y&R again and loved seeing her. She's been on recently and tho her storyline wasn't front burner, it was nice that she still got air time. I was sad and shocked to hear the news yesterday.
RIP, beautiful lady. You were the Queen of daytime for three generations of my family. Much love to her family and friends.
We called it the Hung and the breastless lol
I've been watching this show for 20 years and she amazing. RIP Jeanne!!
I can remember watching Y&R when it first started with my mom. Oh how she loved the fights between Jill and Mrs. Chancellor, she thought the two of them were wonderful characters and couldn't wait or the show to come on. After my mom died I watched it for several years as it was still a way for me to still feel close to my mom. In the last few years I would just catch it as I could but always read up on it online so I would know what was going on and had her on my twitter feed. When I heard she had passed yesterday I couldn't help but cry as piece of my childhood and another piece from my mom is gone. RIP dear lady and thank you for the wonderful memories.
My mother watched when I was about 4 years old and I can remember she and Jill fighting. It was a little more gothic then. Victor was evil too. I loved Ms. Chancellor. She'll be missed.
An amazing woman in an amazing role. I cried, and I don't even watch Y&R anymore! Loved her. She will be missed.
@figgy, you have got to be kidding. Soaps are filmed at a rate of more than one show per day. That's 1-2 new shows, every day, five days a week (although they do get nice chunks of time off in the summer and around Christmas). Easy, my ass!
libby, your armpit is disgusting. You need to shave and wear deoderent.
I was once a devoted Y&R fan. I loved Katherine! Stopped watching when William Bell decided that his offspring should be the prettiest, smartest, and most beautiful wonderful creature in Genoa City and reduced the other female characters to being silly and stupid. Totally destroyed the story arcs that had been brewing and building.
RIP Ms Cooper.
RIP Mrs Chancellor
It was fitting that her final scene was with Jill and she said "Goodnight" and went up the stairs for the final time.
I've watched Y&R on and off my entire life and can't imagine the show without Katherine. I hope they don't recast because nobody can ever play that role the way Jeanne Cooper did.
RIP
Corbin wrote some wonderful, sweetly intimate things about her and posted a lovely family photo. Aside from the fact that Y&R has been run in the ground for the last few years, this is yet another reason why it will never be the same.
I used to joke that I learned everything I know about relationships from watching shows like Y&R as a kid. Jeannie Cooper always seemed like a class above the rest of the cast. She will be missed.
