A Bunny Takes A Bath

This is the first time I have ever seen a rabbit get a bath. Are they always this calm?

  6. That bunny has to be drugged....

  7. There's another video on the selection after the clip - looks like same wabbit at bathtime - and he falls asleep!

  8. The bunny isn't relaxed, he's in trance state. Rabbits freeze up (kinda like cats lowering their ears or dogs tucking their tails) when they feel vulnerable. In the first part, where they zoom in, you can see the bunny shaking. Cold from water since bunnies don't usually get baths or fear, the Lil Bunny Foofoo is in trance mode.

  9. Could they have given it something? I know it's cruel but that seems odd to have it just laying there on its back in water!

  10. A lot of bunnies go into the 'trance' when they are on their backs. My little guy loved being carried around like a baby in my arms and he would lay perfectly still for a very long time. At bath time, he would practically be in a coma - even when upright and sitting - because he was so afraid.

This makes me want to get a bunny just so I can put it in my sink and wash it!

  14. He doesn't look happy

  15. I don't have experience with bunnies but you can see he/she is shaking and the fear on his face. It looks cruel to me. However I imagine just like some dogs and cats depending on when you start and how they are some are just more ok with baths than others.

That doesn't look like what this is. I'd never heard of a bunny trance state.

  16. Rose, you obviously do not have experience with bunnies. Just because you've never heard of a bunny trance, does not mean it does not exist. It does. Ask anyone who has pet bunnies.

  17. For some reason I thought of Fatal Attraction. . .

  18. @unkown, I'm sorry I wasn't clear.

I meant that some bunnies probably get used to baths just like certain dogs do. My comment 'That doesn't look like what this is' was a follow up to that. This particular bunny doesn't look like he has learned that baths are okay. That's why I said he was shaking and you can see the fear on his face, because I don't think he is ok.

The trance statement wasn't an I don't believe it. I had just meant, interesting I've never heard of it. I'm a huge animal lover and I do find this video really disturbing. I'm posting from work and I guess I wrote too quickly to get my point across.

    funniest shit ive read today!
soo bunnies can be scared stiff
lord jesus why is this so funny to me

  20. Rose, FWIW I read your comment as saying bunny looks scared, I've never heard of bunny trance. Rabbit owners are fierce, mostly because of the people who buy rabbits at Easter time as a gift, like a puppy or kitten.

  21. I've never had a pet rabbit, but I'm afraid vids like this will encourage people to get one, just because this looks 'cute'.
That is the exact same sink we have in the main bathroom.

  22. I do this regularly for a friend of mine who has adopted an ex-breeder rabbit, who has no idea how to actually be a rabbit and look after herself. It's not fear. they like the warm water, and then they do start to shake as the water cools.

Rabbits are interesting pets but i wouldn't recommend them for children as they just don't engage at all.

except for our rocco who had had a stroke, he was a baby again and loved everyone

  23. The rabbit is not relaxed or enjoying the bath, it is simply in a trance state. Please look it up, if you are inclined to disagree. Bathing rabbits is not recommended whatsoever, and prove more harmful than helpful. Again, please do your reasearch if you disagree. Videos like these should not be promoted, as they only encourage well-meaning, yet misinformed people to do the same.

  24. I have 2 adopted bunnies and you're not supposed to bathe them unless you have to. They clean and groom themselves (and each other, it's adorable) all day long.

The only time I've ever washed my bunny was when her boyfriend decided to dig up the contents of their litterbox - she walked all over it and her feet became wet and filthy.

  25. Looks like a happy, well-loved bunny to me. Too damn cute. Maybe the bunny hopped into a pile of shit and needed a bath! Any of you out there actual veterinarians with evidence based knowledge to share?

    1. I'm a veterinarian. Rabbits do go in a trance state when you put them on their backs. We use that technique when working with them to make procedures easier. I think bathing a rabbit like that is unnecessary. What if the rabbit freaked out, it could really hurt itself. They don't need baths like that, they take good care of themselves as is. I could see doing a bath if they are really dirty but not leaving it unsupported on its back like that.

    2. I should add that rabbits have strong muscles and weak bones. If this rabbit freaked out and tried to jump out, it could easily break its back. You should never leave a rabbit on its back like that without support.

  26. this is disturbing...rabbits do no bath in nature and domesticated or not, anything that gos against an animals primal instinct....it does look frightened,

reminds me of women who have been raped saying that the way they got thru it all was so just be still and silent so guy wouldnt kill them.

hope this is not the cash

  27. Yes how horrible for the bunny, to be bathed, fed and well cared for and not have its head chopped off for dinner. He is HBIC (head bunny in charge)

    1. Timebob, stfu. You don't know what you're talking about. Bunnies don't need baths and it was terrified. If you feed and care for your kid, does that give you the right to terrorize them once a week and laugh about it? Read what unknown clarifies.

  28. @ Rose. Thank you for clarifying your remarks.

The bunny trance is well known to folks who work with or own rabbits.

Yes, you are bang on with regard to this bunny being afraid. There may be a bunny who enjoys a bath, but I have yet to come across one. This one's outward appearance of enjoying the bath, and being relaxed is deceptive and the giggling owners probably do not realize the bunny is 1) afraid, and 2) in a trance.

My bunny used to be bathed in the tub once a month to minimize his dander because I was so horribly allergic to him. It was that, or rehome him. (He lived 13 years.) Anyway, he would be so afraid that he would stiffen and fall over repeatedly. I never had water in the tub, just running water and a jug where I would pour the water over him.

Bathing any animal in a sink like that is irresponsible & risky because if they suddenly panic and jump, they could fall from that height and hurt themselves.

  29. I kept thinking about how my cats would have killed me if I tried that. They are alright with baths, but I could never leave them alone like that.

I felt sorry for the bunny.

  30. I couldn't even watch the whole video..just a few seconds. I felt so horrible for the little poor bunny. He looked dead actually. I'm sure there are people who bathe their bunnies for whatever reason but in general they aren't meant to be bathed, neither are cats. Poor bunny!

  31. I don't know much about bunnies, but you can't deny the look of terror on it's face. And even if the water was cold, why would you bath a bunny in cold water when it's clearly trembling.

    ReplyDelete
  32. We don't own the bunny. We don't know the reasoning. It could be a flea bath. They could have stepped in its diareah (it happens). Just like when my dog rolls in dead things, it's not cruel to wash him even though wild dogs don't take baths. I have a rabbit and the second I take him out of his cage he looks terrified. It's only because they're prey to pretty much everything in the wild so they're on guard when they're not in a cage. Yes, it's cold. I'm sure they'd rather the bunny have too cold of water and adjust it then too hot and burn it. It's just supposed to be cute guys.

  33. He looks terrified to me not relaxed. Poor bunny is shaking with fear. Im sure he looked gorgeous after the bath though. Fluffy bunny fur.
