Sandra Oh Is Leaving Grey's Anatomy
I don't usually care when an actor or actress bails on a hit television show. I do like to point out to them that they are being idiots because no one should ever leave a show that is on the air. Ever. They should have to drag you out screaming to mess up that weekly paycheck which is going to be way higher than anything else you are likely to see as an actor. I am making an exception for Sandra Oh. I have a fondness for Sandra so in my mind she can do no wrong. She has been on the show for ten years and has made a pile of money and has shown that she can get work. Sure, it won't be as high paying as Grey's but she probably has a ton saved. I can understand someone saying that after ten years, there is just nothing more to give the character and you are tired of playing that person and would like to play someone else. It is not like she got all diva after two seasons and left and is now hoping against hope that she can get back on television and stop making movies that suck. Speaking of movies that suck, my mom was watching The Big Wedding last night. I'm not sure there has been a worse movie produced in the past few years and I am including Sharknado in that because at least Sharknado you could consider campy. Wow.
Anyway, Sandra has been great and I don't think you can blame her or her decision for wanting to leave after this season.
Hadn't this already been announced as "Grey's" last season?
ReplyDeleteNo, it's the last season that the original actors are contracted for but the creators/producers of the show want it to go on. The other originals also might choose to re-up again. Sandra is just the first to make a decision but it remains to be seen what the others will do.
DeleteEven in a post about someone likeable, Enty has to throw shade at someone else. Anyway, people should leave shows when their character's story is finished being told. I'm sure she won't be the only one leaving after ten years.
ReplyDeleteHeigl was actually on for six seasons, but who's counting, right Enty?
ReplyDeleteA weekly series is a grind. I can see why she'd want to do something else, particularly if she's already set for life financially.
ReplyDeleteWhat the fuck was this post about, Sandra Oh or Sharknado?
ReplyDeleteWho even knew or cared that Grey's Anatomy was still on the air?
@Dewie the Bear, the post was about how much Enty hates Katherine Heigl. Why would anyone want to leave a hit show when she keeps getting super crappy storylines (cancer made her hallucinate having sex with her dead fiancé multiple times being one example)? She obviously should have stayed no matter what.
DeleteDo people still watch Grey's?
ReplyDeleteWhat about Clooney leaving ER. That was probably a wise move, right?
The one that currently baffles me is the mass exodus from Downton Abbey. I mean, talk about being on the hottest show right now, not just in America but in the UK. All these British actors wanting out is hysterical to me. If Downton were an American show, all the actors would ban together for bazillion-dollar paychecks. But all the Brit actors want to cut their ties and hone their craft in the theatre. I appreciate that, but at the same time I think they're bat-shit crazy.
Grey's however, hasn't that ship sailed?
Downton isn't as popular here in the UK as it is in the US
DeleteThings went a bit downhill last series and the love for it is starting to fade.
Slightly OT (but kind of related, as you bring it up in the post): What's with the hate of "The Big Wedding", Enty? I went to HS with the writer/director and a good chunk of the movie was filmed in my hometown (including several scenes at a friend's restaurant), so I had to see it. It wasn't that bad. I've seen MUCH worse. It was just a hetero retelling of "La Cage aux Folles."
ReplyDelete/end rant
I can't believe this show has lasted this long. Good for her on leaving-I can imagine the same tv series after a while gets tiresome & one wants to do other projects.
ReplyDeleteThat show is still on?
ReplyDeleteLoved her in Arliss...
ReplyDeleteSecond that Misch! Arli$$ was one of my all time favorites!
DeleteI think the show needs to end so they can all go do their thing. She will always have a place in movies....
ReplyDeleteI'm embarrassed to say I still hate-watch Grey's. it's a grind. I record it & watch it later in the week, sometimes I delete the episode halfway through. Sandra Oh is making the right choice moving on. But the question is, why can't I?
ReplyDeleteLol, Little Miss. My husband cannot believe I still watch this show and I always say that I feel like have to since I've watched it for so long, but I get so annoyed with the story lines and find it utterly ridiculous.

DeleteIf Enty loves Sandra Ho,why did he write 2/3 nasty blind items about her in the past?
ReplyDelete@FrenchGirl, maybe that was one of the other Enties.
DeleteThis show is still on?
ReplyDeleteHaha I third the " that show is still on? "
ReplyDeleteHoly Crap, it's been on 10 years?!? I didn't even know it was still on. I just assumed the network was running reruns since the lineup for ABC is so putrid.
ReplyDelete@Misch - I loved her in Arliss too! That show was awesome!
ReplyDeleteI've loved her since I saw her in an indie film years ago, about a young modern woman trying to break away from her traditional Korean parents. She is always great in movies, surprised she stayed with TV so long.
ReplyDeleteshe's a talent and won't have any problems getting roles
ReplyDeletegood move for her and perhaps should have done it sooner
she was too good for that show and bunch of actors anyway. I'm honestly surprised she lasted this long.
ReplyDeleteAt the end of last season, it was the 28th ranked show with 11 million viewers so, yeah, it's still on.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with everyone that I can't believe that show's still on. It got to be unbearable after season 3. It was the same formula for every show!
ReplyDeleteI am flummoxed to hear that this show is still on. I thought it ended seasons ago. I used to watch it early on, but they jumped the shark when that commuter boat crashed and Dr Grey almost drowned, yawn. That's when I was done, and that was years ago.
ReplyDeleteI still watch it also. And I am excited to see what other projects she chooses to do.
ReplyDeleteAnd can someone dig up the blinds on her? I don't remember them.
OH good. OH I wish the show would disappear. OH I couldn't stand to watch a single moment of it after the delusional Denny nonsense, and Meridith dying under the water and then being brought back to life. OH please.
ReplyDeleteI just saw Heigle on a NyQuil commercial. How the mighty have fallen.

ReplyDelete@MISCH...JINX!
ReplyDeleteLOL
It's hard to look at that weird Droopy Dog Asian face of hers. She should be happy that someone as ugly as her is even on camera. She must be fucking absolutely everyone in Hollywood. Man, woman, vegetable, animal, mineral...that is the only explanation. WOOF.
ReplyDeleteChristine makes Meredith bearable. Owen and Christine had an intense storyline for a while but now they just have sex. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
ReplyDeleteGrey's could go on forever with new interns every few years. It's one of the last dramas I still sometimes watch.
Grey's jumped the shark years ago. Kudos to Sandra for hanging on this long. She has somehow managed to keep her character compelling through all the silliness around her. I'm sure she will continue to have a great career.
ReplyDeleteGray's is STILL on???
ReplyDeleteI became a fan of hers when she was on Arli$$ too. One of the best shows ever. Way ahead of its time.
ReplyDeleteAnyone think they gave Heigl those crap story lines to mess with her and make her leave? Just me? Okay. :)
