Blind Item #5

This very recent one hit wonder was in a NYC pawn shop yesterday trying to get money for a bag she paid $25K for. When the pawn shop said they don't loan money on bags because they could be fake, the foreign born singer begged them to at least give her a couple of thousand. They said no so she eventually gave them a piece of jewelry to get the money she needed.

Carly Rae Jepson? ... But I'm thinking you would have said Foreign-born if it was her ...

  2. It does say foreign born, so you could be right.

  3. Aww, she should go on Pawn Stars. I'm sure Chumlee will take her bag.

    1. See, that was my first thought, but not enough time has passed for 'one hit wonder'...

  7. I really hope this isn't Lorde. She seems to have a good head on her shoulders. I could see it being Carly Rae Jepsen. I guess the Biebs doesn't pay much.

  8. @Sea girl you know I love you to pieces, bur Lorde seems to have a good head? She talks out her ass all the time and then there's that oxy blind about her too.

  9. Yeah no way does Lorde have a good head on her shoulders. Big maybe. So big that she is going to burn all her bridges before they're even built. Carly does seem to fit, I kinda like her though. Say what you want hut that song was catchy as hell.

JSierra: henceforth, when you'll post, I'll be reminded of how hot you are!

  11. I've watched enough Pawn Stars to know they call in their experts to validate if an item is real HA HA.

  12. I think its Carly Rae, she just started appearing in a Bdway show.

  13. Why would Carly Rae need to hock a bag? She's getting better than scale for the show. And while I think Lorde is getting too big for her britches I can't see her having a designer bag at this point. Maybe I'm wrong.

  14. Don't think it's Carly Rae. She was on a morning show last week she's about to be Ariel on broadwAy. Wish it wasn't Lourde but she gives me a amy winehouse vibe.

  15. Lorde stole the bag from her BFF Taylor Swift and is pawning it to buy oxy?

  16. Lorde's song is still riding high on the charts so she cant be classed as a one hit wonder yet. Although I really cant be bothered with another 17year old brat making millions and being rude.

  17. You have to understand that just because Carly Rae has a global hit song does not necessarily mean she has a lot of money because first record contracts are very much skewed in favour of the record company and if the record company is Canadian the terms are probably even worse. They do have some merit in that - they are the ones who invest all the money to build you up as an act but they want their investment first. Mounting a tour is expensive but again whether the record company foots that bill or the promoter or both they want their initial investment out first.

I highly doubt Carly Rae headlines her own tour, beyond an isoloated little gig here and there and she is usually an opener so she's not getting a cut of tour revenues. I might be wrong.

Then as we all know if you don't have a reliable manager or try and keep an eye on your own money, it can suddenly disappear. Ask Kevin Bacon. Even Alan Eagleson robbed Bobby Orr, one of the best NHL hockey players ever to live, blind.

Or maybe whoever this is, has a good money manager who has put limits on her spending and she needed to score some cash quick for you know medicinal needs.

    2. One hit wonders most often make little to no money on their first single or album. I agree with u there. The record company usually fronts the artists money against future royalties so before the girl even makes a dime she has to pay back what was already given to her. I remember when albums used to sell for more money. Artists were lucky to get a dollar maybe two bucks per album. The rest of the money goes to publishing, writing, producers, skeevy managers ala Lou Pearlman (most of his groups got screwed big time). One hit wonder gets expensive bag or maybe knockoff and tries to sell it but instead sells a ring because she is desperate for money?

Totally believable if you are talking about an addict needing a quick fix.

    Lorde is too new.

Tina makes a great points. Also, the real money goes to the writers. That why so many bands break up - it's the ones in the background who do more of the writing and make more of the money - the others get jealous and greedy and they fight over song selection.

Taylor Swift (as much as I don't care for her) is super rich because she writes her own music AND tours.

  20. What was the name of the Simon Cowell protege from Engand? Such a one-hitter, I can't remember her name.

  21. @Tina - Don't forget Leonard Cohen's former longtime manager who robbed him of millions while he spent most of the 90's living in a monastery in the hills of CA. Poor guy was cleaned out. He had to start touring at age 70 just so he'd have money to leave his children. On the positive side, I got to see Leonard Cohen in 2008.

  22. @Seabee Leona Lewis?

  23. Leona Lewis wasn't a one hit wonder, she had several popular songs before her career decline. Lorde is probably a good guess as this is a "very recent" one hit wonder.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Poor Leona. Great singer and god knows she probably didn't make much off of "Bleeding Love" or any other songs, under Simon's contract.

I'll go with the surprisingly elderly Carly Rae.

  25. It's not Carly Rae, despite only being known for Call me Maybe here she has done quite well in Canada eh? She also has a "disney" it with her remake of part of your world (how she got the role her remake is pretty damn good). She also is opened for the Biebs (fellow canadians..eh). Besides who would pawn a 25K bag (assuming Berkin or Channel) when you can consign for more.

  26. Carly Rae did an ad campaign for Candie's, she probably made a fair bit of $ for that. I'm sure she's not swimming in money but I would be surprised if she's out hocking bags at this point. If so she has managed her money very badly!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Jepsen did write Call Me Maybe. Or rather, most of it, she's got top writing credit for it. She also had that song with Owl City, that did well, but the blind says the person was in NYC, so I'll guess CRJ since she's probably there learning her new role.

  28. What about Rita Ora?
