This A list mostly movie actor, who would love to win an Academy Award after years and years of comedies before getting serious and quirky was wasted on the set of his new movie the other day and was a disaster. He was yelling and swearing at everyone who crossed him and he threw his drinks and coffee at others and refused to come out of his trailer and sat in there in his underwear all day drinking from a bottle of booze. He is an angry angry drunk.
Bill Murray
Not my Bill. Call me!
ReplyDeleteSad ... he used to be really funny.
ReplyDeleteWasn't there some scandal with him, his wife and Fran Drescher ('The Nanny') some years back? I vaguely remember it ruined their friendship ...
I don't remember her mentioning him in either of her books. Are people confusing Bill Murray with Dan Ackroyd, who IS good friends with her along with his wife, Donna Dixon. (Fran actually hooked them up, and I don't recall any scandals. If someone's got a link, though, by all means share.)
Delete@AKM - funny you should say that. I've been pondering this all day - after I posted it, I wondered if it was Bill Murray or Dan Ackroyd ... it was definitely one of them, and it was at some point in the early '00s that this happened. I vaguely remember she climbing into bed with them or something. I've searched for Google for the past 20 minutes and haven't been able to find a thing though, so you'll have to take my word for it. Someone might remember.
DeleteI've heard he is a ginormous jerk, not quite Chevy Chase level but close. He does seem a bit cranky.
ReplyDeleteBill Murray and the Nanny? ugh. Awhh Mista Shefieeeelllldddd..haihaihaihaiahaiaaaa
ReplyDeleteNo one believes you!
ReplyDeleteBut then again, he was in Lost in Translation with ScarJo. Maybe he got a spanking.
ReplyDeleteHe was friends with Fran Drescher going way back (the line settle down Frances from Stripes is about her)
ReplyDeleteI think he knew Fran before he knew the wife, but I'm too lazy to google.
I've long heard that he's very funny and very not nice, so this blind isn't terribly surprising.
"Lighten up, Francis" -- said to a guy -- was inspired by her?! Huh?! Her name isn't even Frances...it's Francine. Where did this story come from?
DeleteNot my uncle!
ReplyDeleteYeah you need to approach him with carefully choreographed maneuvers. Hes very private and wants to be left alive.
ReplyDeleteHi @TTM I saw earlier this morning you were looking for drinking buddies last night but I was already uhhh asleep :)
I sat behind him on a plane a few years ago. He must have drank 10 mini bottles of rum. He wasn't unpleasant though.
ReplyDeleteNice spelchek he wants that too but *alone* is what I said!
ReplyDeleteThat's all right, sandyboo, I still have some wine and a snuggy!
ReplyDeleteAnd I have beer and 80 degree weather today! And football later on.
ReplyDeleteI think half the country has a drunk Bill Murray story.
ReplyDeleteI have seen him drunk as well. But in the place he was at(trying to be vague here), they tell everyone to just leave him alone. He comes in, says hello to everyone, gets drunk, pays(tips very very well), and walks or cabs it home.
That was funny sandy.
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw that I immediately thought "How in the hell are YOU approaching people for an autograph?"
Left alive, LOL
Choreographed was the right word too @Bacon for a change.
ReplyDeleteYup, bill is an angry angry man. Yet, my aunt met him years ago when she had a share in a racehorse, and he was completely delightful with her. I think he's one of those blows hot and cold people, which is very Irish. Runs thru my family for sure!!
ReplyDeleteThis has been well-documented for years, even in his SNL days in the 1970s. Murray was and is a prick.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't make him any less funny in films, but now everyone knows where it comes from. Other "great comedians who are similar assholes:" Steve Martin (even more than Murray), Woody Allen, Tim Allen, etc.)
Not a fan, but I did like Groundhog Day, and What about Bob. Baby steps.
ReplyDeleteMy boyfriend met him at a baseball game. Said he was very nice and signed autographs for people.
ReplyDeleteSeems like most of these funny guys have a dark side.
ReplyDeleteMan, I love me some Bill Murray. I mean, really really love him. Some people just get weird sometimes when drunk. It can be a horrible drug that way. I have more cases that involve alcohol than any other type of drug.
ReplyDeleteOh Todd, i still love you.
ReplyDeleteIt's been my experience that the better the actor, the crazier the person; and the better the comedian, the angrier the person. And musicians are all complete sluts.
ReplyDeleteAKM - I misspoke It's the line in Ghostbusters. From IMDB -
ReplyDeleteAt their first brush with a ghost, Peter (Bill Murray) chides Ray (Dan Aykroyd) by calling him "Francine" ("Come here Francine."). This may have been Murray poking ad-lib fun - or a jibe by the writers, including Aykroyd himself - at Aykroyd's real-life friendship with Fran Drescher (see her bio).
He was very cruel to his first wife. He must have paid her well not to have talked about it all these years. Controlled her life completely.
ReplyDeleteMurray was not known as a prick when he was in the cast of SNL. That's bull. Chase and Belushi were assholes, but everyone loved--in many cases literally--Billy.
ReplyDeleteIf this was on the set of Monuments Men, can you blame him?
@Sean You're right everyone does have a Bill Murray being a drunk dick story. My friend slapped him for being a jackass. He was also doing some nose candy with a certain B list actor who has a brother who acts too.
ReplyDeleteHe's been a prick for years.
ReplyDeleteMany years ago when he was appearing at Harrah's in Reno, Steve Martin used to play low limit poker across the street from Harrah's at the Cal-Neva. He seemed to be just wanting to pass the time and relax. He was very quiet and never got out of line. Maybe those guys just want to be left to themselves.
ReplyDeleteNot surprising, really. But sad nonetheless.
ReplyDeleteComedians have it the worst. Their fan base is wider than the more serious actors and very vocal. Can you imagine being screamed at with your latest catchphrase and hounded for demands to be funny. Constantly.
ReplyDeleteComedy ,to me, is the ability to see reality sideways and relate it in a funny manner and rhythm. Sometimes that sideway look at life can see dark things. I think they all need more space.
Side note, Dave Chappell pointedly mentioned it was people screaming " I'm Rick James Bitch!"" That caused him to rethink his life during his explanation for his run off.
One of BM's now-ex-wives lived near my long ago hometown. My mother, a successful business woman who knew EVERYBODY, knew the ex-wife while she was married to him, and afterwards, quite well. I have met the ex-wife myself. If what my mom told me is true (and she is NOT a gossip) I would never want to be in a room with Bill Murray for any reason, ever. I got a boatload of behind-the-scenes info because of where I lived and who my mom met because of her business. I could tell a few stories but I won't ever, out of respect. Obviously nothing illegal, or I would have reported it to the authorities... Just eyebrow raising. That is one of the reasons I enjoy the gossip sites. I get to raise eyebrows with commentary attached. My family moved from that area a number of years ago and so my mom doesn't run in those circles anymore. It was, shall we say, interesting to grow up as a witness to a number of famous people's lives. They mostly have no clue I exist, but I know things... Isn't that just weird??
ReplyDeleteI've known Bill and his family for years and could tell stories, too. But mine would all be about how generous they are with their time and treasure. Bill brought me to tears when he came to a benefit for a police officer killed by a gangbanger. At the end of the evening, after raising tens of thousands of dollars just by being there and interacting with guests, he had a friend hand me his check made out for more than many of us could imagine. His only requirement was the police officer's likeness be on the memorial plaque. I could go on and name many charities for which he has raised significant funds, but to me, his generosity in remembering my friend was priceless.
ReplyDeleteLol! This one was funny to read but I hope he gets his shit together. Loved him ghostbuster movies and gtoundhog day.
