Lindsay Lohan's Movie Career
Lindsay Lohan was in Sundance this week talking about her new movie project. Yes, someone decided that Lindsay Lohan was worth another chance in the movie business. Apparently they didn't read the firsthand accounts from all the people that worked with her on Canyons or they decided they could be the producers to finally make money on a Lindsay Lohan movie. It is kind of similar to the way that a couple keeps trying to get back together because one thinks they can change the other or fix the other person. Most of the time it doesn't succeed.
The budget for her new movie is $5M. I read an article that said that because it is such a small budget that it has a good chance of making its money back or showing a profit. No it doesn't. The movie is probably going straight ot On Demand which is the new version of straight to DVD. Almost 1M people would have to purchase the movie to make the budget back. If it heads to the theatres an almost equal number of people would have to be willing to shell out the going movie rate to make its money back. There are exceptions of course but most movies in the $5M budget range never make their money back. If you are not a great horror movie then your chances of earning back that money is slim.
If you have a second look at this wiki link of Mischa Barton's movies in the past two years. Did you know she made any movies the past two years? Actually she has made lots. Know how many made their money back? None. Know how many had budgets of $5M. Most. Lindsay has a name so it is probably a better gamble picking Lindsay for your movie than Mischa but it is still a big gamble. Probably bigger considering that Lindsay is going to be a huge pain on the set. She is going to treat the movie like there are millions of dollars to spend on her. She probably won't do any publicity for the movie after her final check is received. Her acting is going to be horrible. I'm tired of people reminding me how good she was in Mean Girls. It was an ensemble cast with great actresses and terrific writing and she basically played herself.
If Lindsay wants to have a career in the movies she has to understand she isn't a lead actress. She can't carry a movie by herself. At least not yet. She needs to find the perfect part which is probably someone who is a lot like her in a supporting role in a fairly big budget movie. Let her have a scene or two or three and try and steal the movie.Let her move up from that and eventually maybe she could get a lead.
Remember all the hype about Canyons? We heard about it for months on end and all it could manage to gross was less than $100K.
I thought that headline was a joke because the obvious question is: "What movie career?"
ReplyDeleteBut Tyra Banks just confirmed the sequel for Life Size!!! No one can replace LiLo. No sir.
ReplyDeleteIs she going to play someones grand mother? Or a vagrant on the street?
DeleteYou're spinning your wheels Enty, she doesnt listen to anyone except maybe a crackwhore mother.
ReplyDeleteShe should go the Tara Reid route and do Sharkado 2.
ReplyDeleteRich ppl need ways to lose money for their tax returns on Schedule E.
ReplyDeleteNice link, @Lotta! I wonder if the "modern take" will be Tyra Banks as a mom with Lilo playing her daughter's Bratz doll come to life.
ReplyDeleteI can't decide which was better: mean girls or life size? Such a conundrum
ReplyDelete@JSierra, decisions, decisions!
DeleteCanyons was one of TTM's favorite flicks. I think she's seen it 12-16 times. Probably has the Directors Cut on DVD.
ReplyDeleteI don't know I missed Lifesized. It looks as shitastic as Lace with Phoebe Cates.
ReplyDeleteAnd I thought she hit Sundance to raid the gift rooms..
ReplyDeleteShe can make all the movies she wants....but there is no guarantee that anyone will ever see them.
ReplyDeleteMean Girls. It was an ensemble cast with great actresses and terrific writing and she basically played herself.
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU, why does no one else say this? Also she's been f'ing TERRIBLE in all her TV roles (Glee, SNL, etc.)
She is no longer a good actress by any stretch.
She was kicked off the cover of meangirls..because she poisoned it..and parents refused to buy it
Delete@hunter, that has actually been said many, many times in the comments. In fact, almost verbatim as what was posted.
ReplyDeleteWow what a great post :D I love all of these industry insiders ones
ReplyDeleteWhenever someone announces they are making a movie and they do it at Sundance, it means they want the clout but they will never get. They want into Sundance but the programmers take note of this stunt and when and if the movie comes in submissions, it is blocked unless it is very very good. Sundance hates this sort of stunt and they hate the kind of publicity it attracts. Bad move on the producers part. They movie is now labeled a joke in the programmer's eyes. It is now doomed with regard to Sundance unless it turns out to be really good which it won't.
ReplyDelete*mmmwah! @writergirl
ReplyDeleteToo old and ragged looking to play someone her age and to immature and uneducated to play an older lady..shes FUBARZ
ReplyDeleteI loved Freaky Friday. Never mind.
ReplyDeleteAt this point I'd be happy if she just got rid of those crappy, real housewife stripper extensions so we never had to look at them again. She and Nancy O'Dell look like they just stepped out of a low budget porn.
ReplyDeleteI partly disagree with Enty inasmuch as I know some movie people making $3-$5MM direct to video movies and they make money. With 150 countries, each with a 100-500 channel universe, running 24/7 there is always demand for content (assuming some name content, think Cuba or Mischa) You can get the $3-$5MM from international presales, its a grind business and takes several years for the money to filter back but it viable at some level.
ReplyDeleteThink of the audiences in China and India, that where these two-bits go to widen their "product" - perfect example, Paris Freaking Hilton, who is RICH because she took her shit to much larger populations who love American garbage like Linds, Avril, Micha, etc.
ReplyDeleteParis figured it out best.
These films find their audiences elsewhere, the US is actually a small market.
Exactly! The Hoff is big in Germany. Jerry Lewis was big in France. We Americans forget there is a market overseas. There are film companies that hire big names for movies with big budgets and yet you never see those movies released in America. They're only released in Europe and Asia. Millennium Entertainment is a good example of this.
DeleteNow you all have me thinking of "Singles" again!
ReplyDelete"They love us in Belgium." Touch me, I'm dick!!
I think that a: you have an act and b: not having an act is your act.
DeleteSome companies needs write offs, and this will be a good way for some dude to write off fucking a high dollar hooker.
ReplyDeleteIf they want a Lohan movie to make money, they gotta show her baby maker and fart hole.
Yeah, writergirl!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that movie.
One of my all time faves.
DeleteHer only shot at a leading lady role would be in a porno. Her first few pornos might be pretty successful but then the novelty would wear off and she would be as big a failure in that industry as in movie industry.
ReplyDeleteMy advise to LILO would be to just go way. Be in NY. Take acting classes at Actor's Studio. Get away from the biz. Learn who you are. Learn how to be. Do some really good off broadway theatre. Do a no budget indie. Give the world a break from you. Come back when you're 31 or 32 with a reinvented comeback and a sober you. Quit being desperate. But of course she's not going to listen to me.
ReplyDeleteI must be in old softy mode, because I would love to see her have a comeback, get her shit together and do well.

ReplyDeleteI wonder if this psychological thriller will be anything like that John Gotti movie Lindsay was supposed to star in with John Travolta, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci three years ago. The one where she held a PRESS CONFERENCE to announce it, but then she was fired from that movie just ONE WEEK LATER. Remember that? Then the movie was never made. But I'm sure this situation will be completely different from that. Yeah, completely different. *Eyeroll*
ReplyDeleteI just saw her on Anger Management the other day. She played the challenging role of Lindsay Lohan. And utterly sucked at it. (Yes, I know it was a rerun, just throwing that out there)
ReplyDeleteShe's the producer, Enty. How did you miss that? It's the only way she could ever get a role now. The movie is called Inconceivable.
ReplyDeleteLindsay's only hope is to leave the business, stop trying to be a movie star, and get her ass into residential treatment.
