Blind Item #4 - Fashion Week

This B- list mostly movie actress who is only that high on the list because of her A+ list name recognition was at a show that had Diet Coke slushies. Our actress said she loved them so much that she grabbed a handful of them. She had one sip of one of them and then set them down on chairs on either side of her. She wouldn't let anyone else sit there because she didn't want to put them on the floor. When the show ended she just walked away and let the never sipped slushies sitting there. Guess she doesn't like company.

When people look back at Ancient Rome, they're always amazed at how much lead they willingly consumed - lead plates, lead cups, lead makeup.

When people look back at Ancient America, they'll be amazed by how much crap they willingly consumed - bizarre chemicals, bizarre artificial sweeteners (ie Diet Coke Slushies), bizarre preservatives in their food and cosmetics.

Every American I know who has moved to Europe has immediately lost weight, lots of it. Every time I spend a couple of weeks in the USA I come back with weird lumps in my upper-arm tissue from all the toxins in the food.

It's unbelievable what garbage the USDA approves, all the chemicals and preservatives are killing us. I'm sure of it. It's important to eat less processed food and of course exercise!

Nutty that's scary! Lumps in your arms? Do you ever cook your own food or are you always having to dine out? Just curious.

I didn't even know there was such a thing as a Diet Coke slushie.

Sounds like the type of person that parks on an angle in the parking lot, so that nobody can park their car nearby. I always have to resist the urge to run a key along a quarter panel.

Google Aspartame, you'll find out how Chaney got this through the FDA...it's what they put in diet foods...it's a poisin, man made chemical sh*t storm...& Diet Coke is loaded with it

It's a combination of dining out (and not fancy dining out) and my Mom's food. She's a typical suburban mom - serves pre-prepared spaghetti sauce, cold cuts, potato chips, etc.

In Europe - at least in Northern Europe - you mostly cook at home. The taxes are so high (up to 60% on income/minimum 30% on income, plus 25% sales tax) that you don't have a lot of disposable income to go out to restaurants. And the minimum wage is pretty high, about $18 an hour, so restaurants are pretty expensive, too. You can't have a sit-down burger and a beer for less than $30.

I'm guessing she had shitty seats or else security would have removed the drinks and sat someone down if it was close to the front.

Oh Nutty! I hear ya! I am Aussie but have family in the US, every time I visit I put in 2-5kgs and am astounded At the lack of fresh food, everything is prepared!! What the??

@BeckyMae, I agree it's hard to find good, chemical-free food at reasonable prices. On the other hand, I must admit to loving the huge American supermarkets. Our supermarket is about the size of an American McDonalds, and everything costs 2 or 3 times as much.

FFS! If you're going to cover Fashion Week, please for the love of god, know what the hell you're talking about.
If the actress was at Lincoln Center, they don't allow any drinks at all in the runway tents. Doesn't matter who you are, they security people will take them away from you, before you walk in.
If it was an offsite show, most of them do the same thing--they take away drinks from you. If she went to a presentation, she would be walking around and it's okay to CARRY a drink.
I realize that most of these blinds are BS, but do some research on what realy goes on at NYFW.

Yes eating out at restaurants is cost prohibitive in many European countries. They do pay so much more to drive a car, electricty etc. My friend moved to Switzerland and the fridges in the apartments are the size of bar fridges here so you basically had to go to the market every day and there was a store with fresh produce around the corner for where she lived in downtown Zurich. At the time they would close around 7 pm on weeknights but I think more of Europe is going to North American style store hours.

Agreed that Americans buy too much prepared food and eat out too often. We're a stay at home cook dinner sort of people and I actually have a weekly farmers mkt within a block of my apt. Not to mention what we attempt to grow in the summer.

But I have friends who just buy a cooked meal from Whole Foods and never or rarely cook. Ugh!

I call BS on this one.

No fashion show producer would ever give up 2 seats, no matter how famous the celebrity is.

Frosty said...

Bull. Seats are reserved, no? It's Fashion Week, not a movie theatre

Blondie! said...

All seats are assigned, no designer gives up a seat so that a celebrity can sit by her/himself. No drinks are ever allowed in a runway tent. This is a BS blind.
Coke is a February sponsor, so you can pick up a small bottle of coke in the main hospitality tent. They are not serving coke slushies and nope, you can't sneak them in.
Backstage there are various VIP tents and they've got food and drink. Even so, security will not allow you to bring them into a runway tent.
BS blind.

Really? I'm almost certain 7-11's been offering Coke Slurpees (TM!) since the 80s, and Diet Coke couldn't have been far behind...

Nutty Flavor thank you for starting this conversation. GMO's and processed food, which is EVERYTHING on our grocery store shelves now is literally poisoning our population. Since Monsanto introduced GMO's in 1996, 1 in 7 kids have food allergies, autism is now 1 in 156 up from 1 in 10,000 a little over a decade ago, mental illness has skyrocketed. Young men/kids are walking into malls, schools, theaters, campuses and opening fire. Coincidence? I don't think so. Anyone who thinks GMO's are not harmful have their heads in the sand. Our food supply is the real terrorist in our country.

@BeckyMae and @Nutty_Flavor - you've both raised valid points! I always seem to break out when I'm in the States and feel really tired after eating - probably all the additives and the fact that I tend to mostly eat out when I'm over there.

To those calling BS on this, I would say not necessarily ... not all shows are the same, and it's like when I commented the other day that FROW isn't great because of the flashing bulbs and someone argued that there aren't many flashing bulbs ... well, again it depends on the show.

Blondie! said...

I'm calling BS to this blind because I've been covering NYFW since 2004

I've never heard of this, either. But, if she could, Bosworth totally would.
